Can Respir J Vol 17 No 3 May/June 2010 108 VICTOR CHERNICK AWARD PRESENTED TO DR ALLAN COATES The Canadian Thoracic Society (CTS) Pediatric Assembly is pleased to announce that Dr Allan Coates is the recipient of the 2010 Victor Chernick Award. Established in 2009, the Victor Chernick Award recognizes individuals for lifetime achievement in the field of pediatric respirology. Dr Coates completed an engineering degree, studied medi- cine at McGill University (Montreal, Quebec), received clin- ical training at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (Montreal, Quebec) and completed a research fellowship at the Royal Post Graduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital, London, United Kingdom. He led a distinguished career in pediatric respirology, serving at both the Montreal Children’s Hospital and the Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto, Ontario). His eminent career in research contributed to the advancement of knowledge in areas such as drug delivery by aerosol, long-term sequelae of newborn lung disease, cystic fibrosis, and lung func- tion testing in children and adults. Dr Coates was recently named Chair of the CTS Pulmonary Function Standards Committee. The Victor Chernick Award was presented to Dr Coates at the CTS Pediatric Assembly’s annual meeting in Halifax, Nova Scotia, April 29, 2010.
