Neighborhood Updates50-Unit Family & Senior housing DevelopmentThe Rita Bright Community Center located at 2500 14th Street, NW is getting a new life as part of this 50-unit project. The Center sits on a 41,000 square-foot property. This 14th Street project includes 35 short-term family apartment-style units for homeless families and 15 permanent supportive housing for low-income seniors. The community center will receive a nice facelift as part of the project.

Metrobus Service EnhancementsRoute 52 will be extended to 12th Street and Maine Avenue SW to serve L'Enfant Plaza Metrorail Station via The Wharf. Routes 53 and 54 will be combined into a new Route 54 operating between Takoma Metrorail Station and F & 12th streets NW (Metro Center Metrorail Station). The Route 53 designation will be eliminated. Beginning Monday, January 8, 2018, new MetroExtra limited-stop Route 59 service will be added along 14th Street NW in the District of Columbia providing faster service and an additional travel option along the corridor between Takoma and Federal Triangle.

Expanded Hours & Menu @ Coffy CafeCoffy Cafe is looking to expand its menu and hours. They will introduce tapas, wine, and live entertainment. Space would only sit 98 and would be a calm, French-ish cafe. To stay open until 11 am during the week, and until midnight on the weekend.

Engagement OpportunitiesPowell Park (Located on 16th Street, next to Sacred Heart Church) Update – The November 29 meeting was a success. Participants reviewed previous DPR updates to community parks and discussed the possibility of adding fitness equipment to Powell Park. Also, there’s a chance the park will get a small community garden. The updated renovation timeline will reflect a fall 2018 start date. If you’re interested in having a say in this process, please contact Christine Miller at 1A05@[email protected].

End Partial Lead Pipe Replacement – Contamination in our Water Ongoing meetings between many of the ANC representatives are focused on the issue of lead pipes and water contamination within the city. The talks are still at an early stage, but the first step has been taken. The ANC 1A commissioners voted unanimously to send a letter to DC water calling for the end of partial pipe replacement, which has been shown to make lead contamination worse. Interested in learning more or voicing your opinion? Send an email to your ANC commissioner!
