Underground thermal energy storage
New VÄRE-building at Otaniemi has 77 heat wells, which are
320 m deep. Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) cables
monitoring temperature in the surrounding ground have been
installed. By monitoring temperatures in the ground we will
produce guidelines for using building automation system
more efficiently.
In the second phase of piloting new services to enable
demand-response will be developed.
To learn to use heat from the ground and building
automation system as efficiently as possible to diminish
the need for purchased energy.

Student groups carry out projects for external
companies, with parallel lectures on consultancy
skills. The course expands the student experience as
