This is called indirectmedical costs, like taking off work due to illness, insurance companies not covering the full amount of medications, hospital visits and etc. Globally, thisamount adds up to 1.6 Billion per year! Therefore, thisillness has a large impact on society. 4. And tohelp spreadawareness! 5. The Foundation was established in1974 by a group of concernedparents who saw the need to raisefunds for research intoInflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)and to educate patients and theirfamilies about these diseases. OurMission is simply stated -- to findthe cure for IBD. We are Canadaslargest funder of IBD research andrank among the top global fundersof such research in both absoluteand per capita terms. 6. The CCFC invests in IBDresearch, education andawareness and isCanadas top funder ofcure-directed research. Mission, Vision and Values OverviewThe CCFC Board of Directors as the context in which to conduct this strategic planningprocess reaffirmed the Mission, Vision and Values of the CCFC. The Strategic Plan wasdeveloped to ensure that the CCFC fully executes on its Mission, Vision and Values andthat all activities undertaken by the Foundation are aligned with this execution.Much has changed in the internal and external environments since the Foundation lastengaged in strategic planning more than a decade ago. This new Strategic Plan considersthe internal strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) that currentlyinfluence the CCFC. It also considers the external forces that play a role in our operatingenvironment, including political, economic, social and technological (PEST) influencesthat are present in the sector today. Though circumstances may have changed over thepast 10 years, the Mission, Vision, and Values of the CCFC remain our touchstones.MissionFind the cure.VisionThe Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC) believe that a cure will be foundfor Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis. To realize this, the CCFC is committed, first and foremost, to raise increasing funds formedical research. The CCFC also believes it is important to make all individuals with inflammatory boweldisease (IBD) aware of the Foundation, and educate these individuals, their families, health professionals and the general public about these diseases. 23. Communication Strategy 24. The Strategic Plan was developed to align and supportthe Mission and the Vision of the CCFC. The fourStrategic Priority Areas, listed below, have beenidentified as part of this strategic planning process. Thefour Priority Areas will help the CCFC increase theFoundations capacity to support growth and continueour success as a leading funder of IBD research inCanada. They are:A. Optimizing the Fundraising ModelB. Strengthening the Research PortfolioC. Recruiting and Retaining a Robust Volunteer BaseD. Embracing the full Vision of the Foundation 25. Case Study #1:Optimizing theFundraising Model 26. Case Study #2:Embracing the full Vision of theFoundation 27. Old Mission Statement As Of 2011 28. New Promise Statement As Of 2013To cure the disease and improve the lives of children and adults affected by the diseaseWe changed the promise statement because we wanted it to be clear to the public that whileour mission is to find a cure and raise awareness for the disease, we are also focused on thepresent state of the IBS and its sufferers. While finding a cure and raising awareness are twovery important things, we wanted the CCFC community to know that we would also be there totry and improve lives of those that currently suffering everydayuntil the cure is ready.Sandra Zumpetta, Chief Operating Officer of Crohns and Colitis Foundation ofCanada 29. EXAMPLE 30. While there is consensus that CD and UC are chronic diseases, thevariability of symptoms and time course tend also to orphan IBDfrom other chronic diseases. A chronic care model modified to suitthe episodic nature of IBD would be beneficial to help coordinate careand for engagement of public and private funders.Stigma is often associated with the conditions because of the natureof symptoms.Toilet access can be an issue when:->Toilets in social settings are kept locked and a key is required thatmay take time to acquire.->School settings may give rise to misperceptions (e.g., teacherperceptions that a child is trying to skip class rather than having areal need) which are perhaps best resolved by conversations betweenparents and teachers. 31. Communication Plan Timeline 32. This Strategic Planning Initiative commenced in March of 2008, with thegoal of developing a five-year Strategic Plan (the Plan) that will helpCCFC clearly define its future direction and focus. The Plan began implementation in July 2009 (following detailed goal andmetrics setting by the CCFCs Senior Management Team) and will directCCFCs activities through to June 2014. The strategic opportunitiesidentified as part of this strategic planning process build on the strengthsof the Foundation and position the CCFC to address future-lookingchallenges within the medical research foundation and charitablesectors. The Plan was developed based on the opinions and insights of nearly1500 individuals from all areas of the Foundation plus externalstakeholders and advisors. Participants included: CCFC members, volunteers, donors, corporate sponsors, researchers, staff and externalsector experts. Stakeholders were engaged through an extensive, fivemonth process which included, but was not limited to, one-on-oneinterviews, focus groups, web-based surveys, and CCFC 2008 Congressworking sessions. 33. MAIN ISSUES 34. "It is time to recognize IBD as a national and provincial health priority," added Dr.Glasgow. "To improve the current landscape of IBD in Canada, the CCFC, alongwith government, media, the general public, and other key stakeholders need towork together to help advance public understanding of IBD and to fund researchthat leads to more treatment options and, ultimately, cures.-Dr. Kevin Glasgow,Chief Executive Officer, CCFC.The Canadian government does not recognize IBD as a chronic illness, and therefore does not give funding for research or awareness. The CCFCgenerates income from charity events, sponsors, stakeholders andvarious grants Sandra Zumpetta, Chief Operating Officer of Crohnsand Colitis Foundation of Canada 35. Main Issues that theCrohns and Colitis Foundation Help To Fix 36. 1) Awareness of IBD: Low recognition of IBD as a chronicdisease, resulting in unnecessary social stigma2) Diagnosis of IBD: Late diagnosis or inappropriatediagnosis3) Access to IBD specialists and procedures: Regionaldisparities and untimely access to care4) Access to IBD medications: Expensive and often cost-prohibitive medications; variable access and coverageacross public provincial drug plans5) Research: Limited resources to study the cause, careand cure of IBD, and for monitoring and evaluationresearch to improve estimates of prevalence and costs ofIBD 37.
