We found a durable, functional, useful compression sack, and then we made it better by incorporating the most innovative self-storing enclosure system ever seen.

When designing the packaging for our new products we always keep in mindthreebasicobjectives:Identifytheproduct clearly. Ensure the packaging is suitable to the product and incorporate packagingthatisenvironmentallyfriendly.Many of Coghlan’s products only use paperboard.Studieshaveshownthatpaper has a much greater chance of being recycled than its plastic counterpart. Still, plasticblistersorclamshellsplayavitalrole in protecting both the product during shipping or on the shelf, in addition to protecting the consumer as in the case of the new #1160 Pack Axe (see page 4). For 2011, we are not only introducing more smart packaging but also smart products. Our new Compression Sacks arepackagedusingapaperboardsleevethat will allow consumers to touch and feel the quality of the product. The spacesavingdesignoftheproductwasachievedbyincorporatingzippersintothetopandbottomofthesack.Whenzippedclosed it allows the sack to store flat.

Mostcampers,however,arenotexactlysurvivalistoutdoorsmenandstart-ingcampfirescanbedifficultattimes,evenforexperiencedcampers.Ifyoufollow these few tips about how to start a campfire though, you should be warminguptoacozyfire,roastingdeliciouswienersinnotime.

Before starting out, check if your camping area has any restrictions on fires, campfires,etc.Someparksandcampgroundsmayhaverestrictionsonburningduring“dryspells”,heatwavesorcertaindryareas.

1. Be extra careful when starting a fire in high winds because the fire can spreadeasily.Alwayshavewatercloseathandincaseofemergency.

2.Alwaysusethefirepitthecampgroundhasprovided.Wherethereisnofire pit, build your own by digging a shallow hole and place large rocks around the hole to retain the fire.

3. A small camp axe or a good camping knife can split a log into small piecesorshavewoodintosmallfeather-likesplintersfortinderandkindling.UseCoghlan’s#7940FireSticksforkindlingifyoudon’thaveanaxe.Youcancrunchupsomepaperandgatherdryleaves,drygrassor pine needles, dry twigs and small branches and lay them in pile in the bottom of the fire pit for kindling also.

4.Placethesmallbranchesorsplitwoodsothattheyformaninvertedconeorteepeeshapeoverthesmallpileofkindling,withthebase starting wide and then tapers to a point at the top. This will allow air-flow that will feed your fire. The wood is supported at the top by wood leaning in the opposite direction.

5. Light the fire starting material with Coghlan’s matches or the #1005 Flint Striker, which will then ignite the branches and split wood.

6.Addwoodasneededtomaintainthefire.Ideally,dry, cured wood is best for a clean burning campfire. Ifyouencounterlotsofsmokeorafirethatis hard to keep going, likely your wood is wet or green(freshlycutwoodretainslotsoffluid).If youhaveonlywetwood,youwillneedtokeep your fire hot to burn off any excess moisture in the wet wood and keep your fire burning.

7. Always extinguish your campfire before goingtosleeporleavingthecampsite. Neverleaveacampfireunattended.
