Contact: Laura Horvath, EdD, African Programs Director [email protected] or 703-793-9521 www.helpingchildrenworldwide.org Helping Children Worldwide THE CHILD RESCUE CENTRE & MERCY HOSPITAL Core Competencies z Programs serve more than 10,000 people in Sierra Leone each year. z Operating in Sierra Leone since 2003. z Child Rescue Centre programs serve more than 400 vulnerable children and youth, many at risk of child labor or trafficking. z Since opening in 2007, Mercy Hospital has served an average of 700 patients each month, regardless of ability to pay. z Mercy Outreach programs provide medical care to seven provincial centers in Bo District through | Nutrition Program: feeding and nutrition education for 1200 malnourished children annually. | Prenatal Program: prenatal care, supplements and education for approximately 500 women annually. | Malaria testing and treatment. | HIV testing and counseling. z PAST PERFORMANCE z Maternal-Child Health | Pre- and Postnatal care for more than 900 women in 2014. | 200 babies born at Mercy Hospital in 2014. z Malaria Program | 4,000 mothers and young children received testing and treatment in 2014. | Partnership with UMCOR through the Imagine No Malaria Initiative. z HIV Program | Proven success in the prevention of mother to baby transmission of HIV. z Child Empowerment and Education | 92% of children in CRC programs passed their national exams in 2014. | 12 Child Rescue Centre students received post-secondary Promise Scholarships in 2014. | CRC CARES radio program reached a greater than 50 mile radius, offering academic enrichment, wholesome entertainment and inspiration during the Ebola outbreak. z dIFFERENTIATORS z Longevity: Helping Children Worldwide has been providing life-changing services in Sierra Leone, and in the Bo Community specifically, for more than 13 years. z Breadth of services: Children and youth ages 4-23 receive vital services through the four complementary programs of the Child Rescue Centre. Mercy Hospital programs serve Bo and seven district centers in the vicinity through hospital services and Community Based Primary Health Care. z CORPORATE DATA z Received three-star ranking from Charity Navigator in 2014. z HCW Support and Revenue for 2014: $873,103, inclusive of UMC Advance contributions and locally earned income from Mercy Hospital. z Staff-led, volunteer driven organization with very low overhead costs. z Capability Statement
