A Message from our Principal, Ms Pantelis Congratulations Mr.Young We wish to congratulate Mr Young who has been successful in gaining a permanent teaching position at Oatley West PS. Mr Young’s last day at BBPS will be on Tuesday 8 December as he has taken leave because he is getting married. On behalf of the BBPS community we wish him all the very best and thank him for the fantastic job he has done as a teacher, as well as our ICT Coordinator. He will be sorely missed.

Parent Partnership

Research shows that greater levels of support and engagement from parents and carers are associated with better student academic and wellbeing outcomes. We also know that students learn more effectively when the home and school environments form complementary and supportive roles for learning. It is for this reason that we are focused on continuing to foster the partnership between our school and parents. The Department of Education has now released a ‘What works best’ resource for parents and carers, which provides tips for having conversations with your child about their learning. You can visit the department’s Parent Hub where you’ll find other tailored resources for parents and carers, as well as message from the NSW Minister for Education the Hon. Sarah Mitchell MLC https://education.nsw.gov.au/parents-and-carers/learning/what-works-best-2020-update

Appropriate Behaviour A reminder to our parents that it is inappropriate for a parent to approach children from other families regarding an issue. If a situation has occurred at school between two students, we appreciate the parent notifying their child’s teacher so that it can be followed up at school. As mentioned earlier in a school newsletter, students are encouraged to go straight home after school. There have been some complaints regarding students hanging out in parks after school.

Congratulations BBPS!

Thank you for signing the petition in support of Burraneer Bay Public School P&Cs application for funding for the refurbishment of the K-2 outdoor learning areas.

I’m pleased to let you know that Burraneer Bay Public School P&C has been successful in obtaining

funding of $40,000 under the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership program. This will be used to replace worn synthetic turf, remove rusty steel play circuits and replace the worn chess turf

area.

Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life. Omar Khayyam – 1048-1131, Mathematician

Warmest Regards,

Ms.V.Pantelis.

Deputy Principal Report

Presentation Day On December 3, the school will be holding our Presentation Day. The K-2 Presentation Day Assembly will begin at 10:00am and the Presentation Day Assembly for all students in Years 3-6 will begin at 12:00pm. Both events will be held in our school hall. K-2 students are required to wear their full school uniform. Students in Years 3-6 must also be dressed in full school uniform. Parents of students receiving an award will be notified by mail. Covid 19 Restrictions do not allow us to invite parents to attend this year. We will be filming and live streaming the assembly to the community.

Congratulations A huge congratulations to all of the 20 Year 5 students who delivered their election speeches to all students from Year 2 to Year 6 on Monday. All students presented engaging and interesting speeches

about their strengths, their reflections on our school and how they could contribute to its future and how they as leaders hope to make a positive difference.

This enthusiastic response clearly shows the diligent and responsible nature of our students. It definitely made the voting process extremely difficult as all candidates would undoubtedly make inspirational leaders. The 2021 leadership positions will be announced at our 3-6 Presentation Day Assembly on Thursday December 3rd.

Year 6 Graduation Assembly We are very excited to announce that due to changes in Covid restrictions we are able to invite two adults per Year 6 student to attend the Year 6 Graduation Assembly that is now on Tuesday December 15th 2020. The assembly will begin at 9:30am and conclude at 10:30am. It will be held in the school hall. The Year 6 teachers will be sending an invitation home next week to all Year 6 parents with the final details.

White Ribbon Day

On Friday 20th November 2020, all students in Burraneer Bay Public School developed an understanding of respectful relationships as they talked about White Ribbon Day. In the weeks prior to the day, classes decorated white doves and looked at picture books that developed the theme of respectful relationships. White Ice blocks were available at the canteen and two lolly jars were used for a guessing competition to help raise money for Jacaranda Cottage at Caringbah, which is a refuge for young women. Thanks to the generosity of the community the school raised $1500 to donate to this worthy cause. The students from the SRC helped to make the day such a success.

Thank You for supporting this school initiative.

Year 6 Oz-tag Day

Year 6 had a great day at Jenola Oval playing and learning skills for Oz-tag. First we walked down to the oval where we met our instructors. We split up into 8 groups and together two groups went with an instructor to learn skills and play fun activities. Each set of two groups rotated around 4 times, practising passing, catching, tagging and intercepting. Then we all came together to have a recess break with a bit of free time. Teams 1 – 8 split into 2 pools where we played against each other in mini competitive games. We played three games and had a break for lunch. We also had a dance off where people got prizes for trying hard with their dance moves. Everyone played one last fun game then everyone sat down to watch the finals. A few of the students commentated the grand finale while another game was fighting for 3rd place. Group 7 won 3rd and Group 2 won 4th. Group 5 were the grand finale winners and Group 3 came 2nd. We then played a few relays and sat down for prizes to recognise those students who gave it their all. Talea and Ashton got the man and woman of the match. We said our farewells to the instructors and left for school with some fun oz-tag memories. By Ella and James 6M.
