A Message from our Principal, Ms Pantelis

Welcome to BBPS! Welcome to the following students and their families who are new to our school. Lucy W (4A), Mayah L (2S), William G (5S) and Juliette G (2W) We trust that you will enjoy your educational journey whilst at BBPS.

Assemblies Today we commenced our Assemblies. Our K-2 Assembly is held on a Thursday afternoon at 2:20pm and our 3-6 Assembly is held on a Monday afternoon at 2:20pm. Both Assemblies are held in the school hall and parents and grandparents are always welcome to attend. The school hosts a special whole school Assembly at the end of each term. Further information to follow closer to the date.

Student Wellbeing and Anti-bullying Plan As part of an ongoing basis, the school reviews the Student Wellbeing Policy and Anti-bullying Plan in line with Department of Education policies for implementation in 2020. Please refer to the school’s website under “About our School” tab, “Rules and Policies”, for detailed information.

Scripture Our Scripture classes, non-Scripture and Ethics classes will commence next week. Special thanks to our Coordinators Mrs Maidment and Mrs Moss for their efforts in the organisation of these classes.

Student Absences Reminder Parents need to be very mindful and selective about taking children out of school. Extended absences, travel that could be taken at other times, or repeated trips during school terms need to be considered by the Principal to determine whether they can be justified (and approved) or are unjustified (and therefore will be recorded as an unjustified absence). In either case, these absences will be included on your child's school report and records. The importance of regular, punctual school attendance is undeniable. Apart from illness, children do best academically, socially and emotionally when they come to school every day. Where possible, we encourage families to choose to travel out of school terms or, where this is not possible, to limit the length of time the child is out of school.

Clean Up Australia Day Tomorrow our school is participating in Clean up Australia Day. It would be great to see all our students get involved. We have a beautiful school and one that we are so very proud of.

Growing Strong Minds is a program that strives to empower

teachers, students, parents and our community to thrive. Built around Positive Psychology strategies, it focuses on building resilience and further developing a culture of inclusiveness and respectful relationships at Burraneer Bay Public School. This is a whole school approach that uses evidence- based practices to support wellbeing across our school community. The program complements our existing school values and supports our school plan. The well-being team is excited about the implementation of this program in our school. We have attached an invitation to our upcoming Strength Based Parent Session.

Emergency Evacuation Procedure On Wednesday all of the students from Kindergarten to Year 6 took part in an Emergency Evacuation Procedure. These drills are mandatory and are an important part of our Work Health and Safety Procedures. They are designed to support the students by building awareness of the processes that have to be followed if an emergency did occur. All students were guided through the process and were encouraged to follow all of the instructions carefully. The kindergarten students were very excited to hear the evacuation siren that alerts them to an emergency. They accompanied their teachers to and from their designated assembly point on the Netball Court and patted themselves on the back when it was finished. It is always a great reminder for all students and staff.

Creative Arts Camp The opportunity to attend the Creative Arts Camp is offered to Year 5 and Year 6 students who are in the Senior Choir, Senior Band, Year 6 Dance, Year 5/6 Girls Dance, Extension Dance and the STEAM Team. The Creative Arts Camp has always been a huge success in previous years and this year’s camp will be even bigger and better with 2 full days of intensive workshops. The Creative Arts Camp is a wonderful experience for the children. It aims at increasing the enthusiasm of the children, developing their confidence and fostering in them a passion for the Creative and Practical Arts. The camp provides the children with the opportunity to excel in singing, dancing and playing. The children participate in a range of workshops and activities that enhance both their musical and performance skills. The Creative Arts Camp will be held from Monday March 23rd -Tuesday March 24th, 2020 at The Tops Conference Centre, at Stanwell Tops. In keeping with tradition, the camp will conclude on the Tuesday evening with a combined concert for parents that will begin at 7pm. An Expression of Interest to attend was given out to all students on Tuesday February 25th. At this stage we need to confirm the number of students attending. (We require a minimum of 100 students). Parents are asked to complete the slip and return it to Mrs Millar by tomorrow - Friday February 28th, 2020. No payment is required at this stage.

Lost Property We are constantly overwhelmed by the amount of Lost Property that accumulates in the Lost Property Container inside the Library. If your son / daughter has lost or misplaced school items, please search the Lost Property. We are only 5 weeks into a new school year and already the bin is overflowing. There are items left behind at the swimming carnival and lunch boxes and drink bottles all without names. We know that uniforms are expensive and that it is very frustrating when items are lost. Please label all items of clothing clearly, so that they can be given back to their owners. All unclaimed clothing is donated to the Second Hand Clothing Shop at the end of each term. Mrs Y Moss Deputy Principal

Year 6 visit Woolooware High School for a Day

Music We had music as our amazing first subject at Woolooware High School and I have to say the start was okay, then it got cool! I played the drums first, then we did bass guitar and keyboards with headphones. It was AWESOME! Our peer support leaders even played the amazing instruments.

English Our second period was English, but … I really enjoyed it! We talked about the elements of story writing and then did some creative writing about a little goblin monster that was eating a slobbery bone! It was so fun!

Industrial Technology At our third lesson, we designed a pool house and all the things and accessories in it using computer technology. We put in lounges, chairs, toilets, pool tables, beds and more! We also put in a pool but just ran out of time!

Food Technology Pizza Time! YEAH! Food Tech was pretty good, my pizza was a little burnt but tasted great after it was cooked! By Tom (6T) On the 24/2/20 Year 6 went on an excursion to Woolooware High to experience what high school is like. We were split into colour groups - green, yellow, orange, purple, pink, black, blue and red.

Language First we did language with Mrs Holiday. In Language we learnt how to speak French with most of the basic words like thank you. We were in language for the first period and swapped when the rest of the school did.

Maths The second thing we did was maths. We were handed a book with a grid. The main thing the teacher wanted to teach us is to use grids without the boxes. Most kids got up to the second or third page. P.D.H.P.E/SPORT We did sport with the pink group. We played a multi-sport game were the teacher through in any ball and we had to play that game such as Hockey. We played group against group in a friendly match and had a lot of fun.

Food Technology In food technology we made delicious ham and pineapple pizzas. We placed all the toppings on and put them in the ovens to cook. We waited 20-25 mins for our pizza to cook. We were happy at how our pizzas came out and I think our tummies were too! By Sasha (6T)
