SWITCH-ON in short:

3rd CUAHSI Conference on Hydroinformatics, July 15-17, 2015, Tuscaloosa, AlabamaSWITCH-ON is an EU FP7 Collaborative project (grant agreement No. 603587) under the Environment programme running from November 2013-October 2017

EU Collaborative project under the FP7 Environment programme running from November 2013 - October 2017.

Brings together 15 organizations from across Europe (5 Universities, 2 institutes, 8 SMEs). Explores the potential of Open Data for water management and safety. Search for new forms of scientific research and develops (commercial) tools for societal

needs.

European tradition of restricted data for sale! EU directive: Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (INSPIRE):

2007-2019. Goal: sharing of environmental spatial information among public sector organisations. Request: data availability, metadata access, standards, distributed storage.

European Commission's Open Data Strategy (e.g. 2011): cover all the information that public bodies produce, collect or pay for, e.g. geographical information, statistics, weather data, data from publicly funded research projects, and digitised books from libraries.

Many new data portals: GEOSS, Copernicus, Climate Services, EU-projects, Public Agencies
