UnDiSpuTed News August 2015 My name is Shuyu Cao and I am so honored to serve the Davidson College community as the President of the Upsilon Mu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for the 2015-2016 year. Spring 2015 has been a successful semester for our chapter. In the spirit of our 22 revolutionary Founders and 15 trailblazing charter members, we led events that provoked our community to reflect on social situations and to take action in improving our community. However, our work never stops. I plan to lead with the spirit of empowerment. I call for solidarity among our community to revolutionize our beliefs, our actions and our influence. While our nation and community need our involvement, we must start with changing our daily habits, thoughts and words. An action as small as a smile can push our movement onto the right path. Through consistently challenging ourselves to be better individuals, I believe that we can nurture a positive environment. UnDiSpuTed News August 2015

My name is Shuyu Cao and I am so honored to serve the Davidson College community as the President of the Upsilon Mu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for the 2015-2016 year.

While our nation and community need our involvement,

we must start with changing our daily habits, thoughts and words. An action as small as a smile can push our movement onto the right path. Through consistently challenging ourselves to be better individuals, I believe that we can nurture a positive environment.

Please keep a look out for Upsilon Mu’s fifth year programming under the theme of REDvolutionize Me, REDvolutionize My Community. I thank you all in advance for your continued support!

Crimson and Crème Ball “Even broken crayons draw the same,” Jennee Alexander from Safe Alliance shared words from survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence at the Crimson and Crème Ball. To celebrate love on Valentine’s Day, we partnered with the Pi Mu Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. to host the Third Annual Crimson and Crème Ball, a philanthropic event that benefits Safe Alliance. Safe Alliance is an organization that provides 24-hour hotline services, shelter and safety planning for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The organization has a special place in our hearts as one of our charter members had worked closely with them and laid the foundation of support and connection.

A Conversation with Joan Mulholland Trumpauer To celebrate our fourth year on Davidson’s campus, we invited Soror Joan Trumpauer Mulholland to speak on her experiences as a college activist who dedicated her life to fighting for equality. Soror Trumpauer met with a couple students for brunch to speak closely on her experiences as one of the few whites who served as a Freedom Rider and integrated Tugaloo College, a historically black college. She continued this conversation later that night as she spoke to the larger Davidson community about her insight on the fight that continues to this day. She shared pieces of her documentary, answered questions and encouraged the community to remain active and attentive to social issues.
