  • A Note From The Pastor They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking

of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42 The past two weeks I have been at U M ARMY camp in Navasota, Texas, and then at Local Pastor Licensing School at Lakeview where I serve as co-Dean. It has been a great time and lots of good work has been accomplished. Weve had some fun as well. Our theme at U M ARMY was to Act Out in Gods Image. We talked about what it means that we were created in Gods image and how that plays out in our day-to-day lives. U M ARMY is always a great week, it reminds me about our excitement as a church and about all that is going on with our faith. We have not given up our devotion to the teaching of the scriptures, fellowship, communion, and prayer, as the scriptures remind us. We have been practicing some of those same dis-ciplines at Licensing School as well and I see that the future of the United Meth-odist Church is bright and promising. I am looking forward to the exciting events coming up. The mission trip to Be-lize, District Camp at Lakeview, Big House, and of course, Vacation Bible School, one of the most exciting weeks in our church.

    Peace,

A Note From The Associate Pastor

I had the pleasure of traveling to Sager Brown with First United Methodist

Church in Lufkin. For those of you who dont know, Sager Brown is one of

two UMCOR depots. At the facility, they pack and ship various relief kits to

locations around the globe experiencing crises. Also, within their surround-

ing community, Sager Brown has become a hub for relief efforts to reach

the 31% of the population below the poverty line. My team worked on a ren-

ovation project of a retired library building. The building is to become a

mentoring center for children and a place for adults to complete the require-

    ments for a GED.

Our connectional system as Methodists is an incredible resource for change

in the world. Through organizations like UMCOR, Methodists band together

around a common purpose and act as the hand of God at work in the world.

If you would like to learn more about UMCOR or Sager Brown visit their website: www.umcor.org.

    Blessings,

Dear Church Family, Childrens Ministries is creating a custom cookbook featuring favorite recipes from our congregation. The cookbooks will be professionally-published and are sure to be a treasured keepsake. Money raised will be used to support Harolds House, TJR, gifts for our homebound; and sponsorships for Serving Our Servants at Lakeview, a new ministry birthed at FUMC Nacogdoches, and VBS.

You may submit from one to five of your favorite recipes so you and your family are represented in the cookbook; many recipes ensure a successful cookbook. We are using Morris Press Cookbooks website to easily submit recipes online. If you do not have Internet access or prefer to submit a hard copy recipe, we can enter them for you. Submit hardcopies of your recipes to Elsa Jordan, Vikki Boatman, or a council member (see names below). Please submit your hard-copy reci-pes by Saturday, August 15 and your recipes online by Saturday, September 5 so we can meet our deadline.
