BIATHLON XC

Page 3: Alpina - Winning as a lifestyle

A top brand is much more than just an exceptional product.

The name and reputation can only be created by a group of

different, but equally passionate individuals, who are achiev-

ing their dreams on a day to day basis.

ALPINA is a company which breathes, thinks and creates

like an enthusiastic producer of inspiring equipment, which is

known around the world for its superb value. These kinds of

tasks can only be handled by individuals who live what they

do, every single moment. That’s why they have consciously de-

signed their workplace according to the standards of winners.

Only in this way can surprising ideas be born and exceptional

products created. Here hundredths of a second can make or

break a competition and here world champions are created.

That is why behind the scenes of the ALPINA sporting world

you can meet so many exceptional individuals. Some of them

can be seen at the drawing board, others with tools, and oth-

ers through their isolated rush through white spaces. Their

common goal is to go beyond the limits, achieve the impos-

sible, and go where no one has gone before.

Come in. Meet the people who change the word ALPINA into

exciting stories about victory and success. You know the kind:

dreamers, innovators, lovers of the great white outdoors. Get

to know their inspiration and take it as your own. Be bold, ex-

perience, win.

AT THE FINISH LINE THE STORY JUST BEGINS

The thoughts of a winner are also

the song in their heart. For them,

there are not a lot of other goals

other than being first, being the

best, being exceptional. This is

where their incredible discipline

comes from, their ability to make

big sacrifices, which are as a rule

the distinction of every world

champion. And where do they

get their inspiration? Where do

the champions of Olympus feed?

Are you interested in seeing

what champions look like, when

they are wearing their slippers

and have their skis stored in the

basement? What the stars look

like, when they are not being

chased by cameras?

Enthusiastic about challenges, proud of the results

Wins and losses are a part of our life. Winning makes us feel like we are on top of the world. Losing makes us want to imme-diately get back on the path to old glory again. At those times it is important to pick ourselves up and move toward new suc-cesses with optimism.

At ALPINA we have been striving to march on the winning path and to offer our loyal friends products of the highest quality for many years. We enjoy sharing our suc-cesses with you, even more so this year, which was one of the most successful competitive seasons to date for our athletes. A win-ning mentality and winning prod-ucts have given birth to winners, and we are immensely proud of them. For the future, we are com-mitted to offering excellent prod-ucts, and believe that our athletes will continue to bring us joy with their top results.Let the winning mentality of our athletes be transferred to you as well, and become your way of life.

A factory of honest products

For the functional advancement of sporting footwear intended for skiing competitions the most important thing is to work with top athletes. This was a chal-lenge which we accepted with ease. Since we started dealing in cross-country skiing boots we have been working directly with those in competition: for almost 40 years actual top athletes have

been a direct source of informa-tion for the continual creation of new and high-quality footwear. The main challenge presented by cross-country skiing to any shoe manufacturer is, in any way pos-sible, to unite a high level of func-tionality with the simultaneous guarantee of a noticeable level of comfort. However, a solution which improves the quality of the boot’s function often directly re-duces its comfort. And vice ver-

sa. Since both factors are strongly opposed, we aim to find the best possible compromise between these demands and offer the con-sumer an optimal solution.Helping us find the solutions are science, supported by the most modern technology, and our rich history, full of tradition, especial-ly since all prototype skiing foot-wear is still made by hand. That is how products, which have for many years successfully defined the standards in all major world competitions, are created.ALPINA is made up of people who are trying to develop “hon-est” products – in terms of their image, form, and function. Our key goal is to completely satisfy the expectations of custom-ers looking for skiing footwear, and that goes especially for those who are among the best, and therefore also the most de-manding, in the world.

Designing gear which can give an advantage

For the creation of a complex product the design approach is anything but the mere embel-lishment of a product. Design is a

crucial meeting place of techno-logical, consumer and market de-mands. As a matter of fact, it acts like the “glue” which unites what appear to be impossible desires, and is a strategic tool for the crea-tion of innovative products. The results of this kind of approach are applicable innovations with a high level of added value. We are constantly focusing our planning on the demands, needs and desires of the end user – in this case top competitors and the most demanding of athletes. They need meticulously well thought-out equipment, which can give them an advantage in their fight with the competition, or with hun-dredths of a second. Their boots must follow the technique of the race and enable the best possible transfer of the athlete’s energy to the skis. Solutions therefore involve using the best possible high-tech materials and improve-ments in construction, as well as advanced production capabilities. An important part of the design

approach is occupied by the striv-ing to design a product which is recognizable, attractive and full of the competitive spirit. Dynam-ics are a part of the intention and initial scheme of the product, but also its appearance. Throughout, an integral approach is inter-twined with an obsessive desire for perfected details and a har-monious final product. The re-sults just radiate with innovation, dynamism, and the high quality of the final product. The ELITE competition boots are therefore an optimal combina-tion of functionality and techni-cal decisiveness, awarded with design perfection and recogni-tion. In the last few years these boots have been better than any-

thing produced in our area, and are sold around the world under our brand name. The results are the consequence of many years of good cooperation, and of inte-grating the knowledge of the ex-perts at ALPINA with the design approach of our studio.

visible enough on TV?We knew that this was a boot which would redefine the lim-its in the world of cross-country skiing, and for that reason it would have to look like a winner at first glance.Since the exterior of the boot covers 80 percent of the Spar-tan water-resistant overboot, we had a great deal of freedom for graphic expression and playing with the material, while also hav-ing to express the uncompromis-ing nature of sports, asceticism, and dynamism in motion. The red color contains a shade of gold, which gives it a special fiery

life of an athlete who travels thou-sands of kilometers a year, from training to training, from competi-tion to competition, with the boot being his best and closest friend. Since the ELITE boot has a very in-teresting interior, technically com-plex, we also wanted to show it.The external appearance of a boot for top athletics presents the designer with a myriad of very important possible direc-tions. How does the boot com-municate? What does the athlete truly need? How does it commu-nicate past successes. Can it be bold? Can it differentiate itself from the competition? Will it be

The design of the visual charac-ter of these boots is a special pas-sion, and since we have available to us an infinite amount of pos-sibilities for improvement and new approaches, the task is also a great challenge every season. The sport of cross-country skiing is becoming more and more popular among young people. That is an exception-ally positive incentive, which demands a new and relaxed approach with design as well. Constant contact with winners

All throughout cross-country skiing boot production we have been equipping athletes com-peting at the highest level, and from virtually every country;

athletes who make appearances at the world championships in the biathlon and cross-country skiing. Their results confirm our leading place among manufac-turers of similar footwear. Our racing service is responsible for working with competitors, on-time delivery of footwear, and any servicing at competi-tions. The main goal of working with the athletes is to stay up to date with the most demanding needs of cross-country skiing, and to include any perceivable findings we make into our con-tinuing development. We are proud of the fact that years of such cooperation have allowed us to succeed in cre-ating both trust and close re-lationships with many of the best competitors, such as Petter Northug, Dario Cologna, Lukas Bauer, Petra Majdič, and Aino Kaisa Saarinen. We are con-vinced that this kind of cooper-ation and success will continue in the following seasons as well.

Welcome to the elite category

just imagine that you Forget everything you know about boots, skiing, and comPeting. your Foot grabs your attention: imagine its move-ment; the way it breathes and works. then sLowLy, graduaLLy, and Layer by Layer, equiP it with everything that the Foot needs For con-Fident movement and PerFect comFort.

If you do the above process carefully, the result will amaze you. The boot has two basic component parts. One is responsible for stability, protection and the efficient transfer of power, while the other ensures a perfect fit.ELITE boots are made for top athletes in cross-coun-try skiing and biathlons, as well as all those cross-country skiers who strive for perfection, and there-fore want the best. The overboot completely covers the surface of the boot and ensures water resistance, breathability, and an exceptional fit to the foot. The internal shoe is distinguished by an innovative lac-ing system, quality materials and foot bed, which was designed after measuring the feet of competitors. The uncompromisingly perfected boot ensures ex-ceptional stability for the foot, and a great transfer of power from the foot to the ski, without unneces-sary loss of energy. A unique feature of the shoe is the Thinsulate membrane, which increases comfort while also ensuring that during the competition the skier’s feet will never get cold. Both boots from this elite family, the ECS and ECL, have received key inter-national recognition in the area of design: The Red Dot Award for design and the Good Design Award.
