PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Next Week is Book Week and we will be celebrating by having students come to school on Tuesday 20th August, dressed as a character from their favourite book. We would like to invite family and friends back to our school to watch the parade that will take place at 12:30pm, followed by a picnic lunch with your child/ren. We have started plans for Kindergarten 2020 Transition and Orientation. If you are aware of any children, within our school zone, who are school-starting age in 2020, please ensure you encourage their parents to get along to the school to enrol them as soon as possible. Families need to be on our list to receive information around transition and orientation. While talking about enrolments, I explained the new revised enrolment policy to the P&C last Wednesday night at their meeting. I have attached further information to today’s newsletter. Please take the time to read about these important changes as we are currently above our cap at North Wagga PS. In addition to this information, there has been some clarification around existing enrolments.

1. There are some locations which do not currently have a ‘zoned’ school for the residential address. By the end of the year this will be rectified. For those families with students who currently attend our school, these families will continue to be accepted at North Wagga PS.

2. As our zoning had the potential to change with the construction of the new school, parents living in these zones were initially told they were in North Wagga zone, we will be able to continue to honour the enrolments of future siblings of these families.

3. Most importantly, all families currently attending North Wagga PS, who reside outside our intake area, and intending to enrol siblings in the future, will ‘in the interest of the community’ be able to enrol their siblings.

Please contact me directly if you are still requiring information around this change in policy. Have a fabulous week! Trudy Standley Acting Principal

BOOK CHARACTER PARADE

Next Tuesday 20th August we are holding our

annual Book Character Parade to celebrate the

wonderful learning that books can offer in your

child’s learning. We are asking that students

come dressed as a book character to be a part

of our Book Character Parade. The parade will

commence at 12.30pm under the school COLA.

Following the parade parents/ carers are

welcome to have a picnic lunch with your

child/ren.

Please remember that it is about having fun

dressing up as a book character, you do not need

to spend a lot of money.

STAGE 2 REEC EXCURSION On Wednesday 7th of August Pink and Blue classes went on an excursion to the Riverina Environmental Education Centre.

There was so much to do, like we used a microscope to look at native plants. We also did an experiment to find out what

food ants like best out of honey, meat or a biscuit. The answer was honey.

Then we played a game like tag called natives and ferals. Our final activity was a game of charades.

A huge congratulations to .

xt Tuesday NWPS will be holding their annual BOOK REVIEW-

Book: Weirdo. Really Weido 8, by Ahn Do Reviewer: Jude Cattle, Year 6 Was the book exciting? Yes What did you like best about the story? Grandma Do came to visit. Did you like the ending? Yes. Would you recommend the book? Yes, for years 3 – 6 I thought it was good because Grandma Do came for a visit from Vietnam. She went to a barn dance with Weir and his friends. Grandma Do is also very funny and wild. The book is also unpredictable – you don’t know what is going to happen next. Thanks Jude for reading and reviewing book number 8 out of a series of 13. You are a great role model by encouraging other students to read. SCHOOL PHOTOS

CHESS CLUB STARS

On Thursday this week, eight fantastic students from the North Wagga Public School Chess Club attended the Education Week Chess Competition at The Marketplace. Congratulations to Sydney White, Chloe Belford, Keaton Cavanough, Luke Henderson, Landon Hann, Martha Tuckett, Lara Moore and Addison Reberger for displaying such wonderful sportsmanship and a keen sense of strategic competition throughout the morning. Although we didn't quite make the finals, we had an amazing time and met friends from all around the Wagga Wagga region.

A huge thank you to Mrs Phillips for organising the day and ensuring our Chess Club continues to play and learn each week, and thank you also to Mrs Standley, Mrs Quilliam and Ms Mulrooney for getting us there and back!

ABSENTEE NOTES Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:

being sick, having an infectious disease or having an unavoidable medical appointment

exceptional or urgent family circumstance (e.g. attending a funeral) Following an absence from school you must ensure that within 7 days you provide your child’s school with a verbal or written explanation for the absence. Why not try sending through the Skoolbag App! PLANNING FOR 2020 To assist with planning for 2020 please let the school know as soon as possible if your child/children will not be attending NWPS in 2020. Thankyou. If PARENT ONLINE PAYMENTS More and more people are using the “make a payment” section on our school website to make payments for excursions, etc. It is so easy and safe. Please remember this is not to be used for P&C canteen lunches or for photo day payments. SCHOOL UNIFORM Thank you to all of our wonderful parents who have supported the school by making sure the students are in school uniform. We understand that this can be difficult in these wet wintery days and clothes don’t dry. We appreciate your efforts immensely, the students look great!
