PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Last Wednesday we celebrated NAIDOC week. We had a number of invited guests including the Clontarf group who taught our boys the Didgeridoo; Wes Boney taught story telling with movement and Christine Harris from Wagga District Office. The activities the students participated in were all hands on with connections to Aboriginal culture and heritage. The students are to be commended on their excellent behaviour and outstanding participation. We look forward to incorporating these activities into our enrichment groups that are held twice a term. Be sure to read the student’s perspective in today’s newsletter. Mrs Hilton did a fabulous job organising the sessions and it was without doubt our best celebration of NAIDOC Day since I have been at NWPS! Below is an email Mrs Hilton received from Wes:

Today our annual school photos were taken and I would like to thank Kellie and Craig Williams from MSP

Photography. They are always very professional and extremely patient. It was fabulous to see the students

wearing their full winter uniform, including their black school shoes. Thank you also to Marg and Mel for

ensuring everyone was wearing a green school jumper with the emblem on it.

Miss Grace Gillard has almost completed her practicum for her Bachelor of Education. Miss Gillard has been

with us for 5 weeks and we wish to thank her for her support of 3/4 Blue and wish her the very best in her

teaching career.

Don’t forget our Father’s Day stall is being held tomorrow (Wednesday 28 August). Mrs Grieve has done a

terrific job again this year with many great gifts to purchase for dad.

I will be attending a Principal’s Conference in Griffith this Thursday and Friday so I would like to take this

opportunity to wish Stage 2 all the best for their upcoming excursion to Lake Hume Resort. I hope you have

the most wonderful time.

Have a fabulous week!

OUR CONCERT – A CELEBRATION OF DANCE Each week this term students have been having a dance lesson with Ms King as part of the curriculum. Each class has been learning a small routine. On Friday, 20th September a little concert will be held with each class presenting their item. It will be held at Mt Austin High School hall at 6.30 pm sharp. Notes will be sent out with what your child will need to wear for the concert which will just be something as simple as a certain coloured t-shirt and shorts. Most of the props for the dance have been provided by Ms King. An entry fee of $5 per adult will be collected at the door on the night. We look forward to giving all of the students the experience to perform on a stage in front of a crowd. Save the date!

NAIDOC DAY On Wednesday, 21st August we did a NAIDOC celebration. I painted a boomerang and made a clay echidna. With the boomerang we used Aboriginal colours, like red blue yellow and brown. It was fun. Now, onto the clay echidnas. We used quick drying clay. We had toothpicks and we could go out to the garden and get sticks. I used sticks and rocks. At the end of the day we gave a box of chocolates to the visitors. By Harry Chisholm

NAIDOC Day was fun thanks to Wes, the Clontarf men and our teachers. We learnt nice and extraordinary Aboriginal dances, like kangaroo, dingo, emu, snake and goanna. After Wes and ourselves did a play, Ms Markham tried to guess our characters. After that we made clay echidnas, then listened to the Didgeridoo.

By Urbi and Lottie

Didgeridoo was very, very fun. First we guessed the didgeridoo animal noise. Then we got a cup of water and a straw. We put the straw in and blew until we needed a rest and breath. This is called circular breathing. Then we played the real Didgeridoo.

By Preston

Last week was NAIDOC week and everybody did lots of activities. There was boomerang, face painting, clay echidnas, storytelling, didgeridoos and birds. For birds we went to the orange class with Mrs Walker and Mrs McIntosh and got styrofoam balls and coloured them with fabric crayons. We got feet and coloured them in. Five feathers and sticks for the beak. We stuck eyes on the bird and let them sit overnight. We say thanks to all the people who showed us stuff, especially Mrs Hilton.

NUDE FOOD DAY

NUDE FOOD DAY

IS COMING

NEXT WEEK!

On Tuesday, 3rd September we are

encouraging all students to bring a fresh,

healthy, rubbish free lunch to school. Nude

Food Day is a chance for our students to realise

what they can do for their health and the

health of our planet.

Nude Food is simply food that is not wrapped in

foil, plastic or commercial packaging.

Packaged foods are often unhealthy options whereas nude food,

such as fresh fruit and vegetables, is mostly healthy,

unprocessed and better for the environment.

See below for more information on how to pack a Nude Food lunch.

It’s easy and fun!

The class with the most Nude Food lunches will be given

a special treat on a later date!

Enrol now for Kindy 2020!

NWPS Enrolment Panel

meeting will be Monday,

2nd September.
