Principal’s Weekly News Shane Parry, Acting Principal

Welcome to Week 2. Mr Mason returns to Jubilee next week after embarking on a month-long caravanning holiday through Central Australia with his lovely wife Janice visiting places such as Roma, Longreach, Mt Isa, Tennant Creek, The Devil’s Marbles, Alice Springs, King’s Canyon, Uluru, Coober Pedy, Broken Hill and Lightning Ridge. After getting such a taste of the Australian Outback, we look forward to hearing the many stories of our own “All Aussie Adventurer.” Mr David Sewell is currently attending both the Year 6 Sydney/Canberra trip and a Professional Development Program in Sydney. He will be returning to school on Thursday this week. Mrs Joanne Riddell is also attending the Year 6 camp and will stay for its entirety. Mr Shane Parry and Miss Meg King are the Acting Leadership Team in the interim.

Gold Coast Eisteddfod Showcase Spectacular On Sunday, Mrs Isobel Clarke and her class attended the Gold Coast Eisteddfod’s Showcase Spectacular. Not only did the students perform brilliantly and represented our school proudly, but also our talented Mrs Clarke had composed the hilarious poem recited. The class of 2F were the YOUNGEST STUDENTS EVER in the history of the gala to be invited to perform at this prestigious event. CONGRATULATIONS MRS CLARKE AND 2F. We are all so very proud of you.

2013 A.B. Paterson Public Speaking Competition Tomorrow, 15 students from Years 5 and 7 will be representing Jubilee in the A.B. Paterson Public Speaking Competition. These students have been busy preparing for this event and we wish them well in their presentations. Thanks to the Year 5-7 teachers for their support and a special thank you to Mrs Karen Hallett for her co-ordination and leadership. Jubilee students have always achieved amazing results at this event and it is a great learning experience.

Good luck boys and girls and thank you for representing Jubilee so well.

Year 6 Sydney / Canberra Trip On Sunday morning, our teachers and students left for their Sydney / Canberra trip. From all reports, everyone is having a terrific time although temperatures are a tad cooler than what we have been experiencing here at home. Jubilee will visit places such as Parliament House, the AIS, National Museum, Questacon, CSIRO, The Australian War Memorial, ANZ Stadium, The Opera House and Mary Mackillop Centre. We look forward to hearing all the exciting tales when they arrive back on Friday. You can track the Year 6 trip on their blog at www.jubileecanberra2013.blogspot.com.

An accurate arrival time home will be sent through our JUBILEE APP so PLEASE make sure you have downloaded it from your App Store.

CTJ – Consistency of Teacher Judgement Afternoon Jubilee teachers will meet with other teachers from Assisi College and St. Joseph’s Beenleigh for our annual CTJ afternoon today. This is a valuable time for teachers to network and discuss their teaching and learning and compare assessment. Teachers have been doing a lot of planning for this event and given up a lot of their own time to prepare. Thank you teachers for your ongoing professionalism.

School Fees Term 4 statements have been mailed today. Payment is requested by the 1st November. As this is a short term families are asked to finalise accounts early.

Pupil Free Day NEXT MONDAY 21st OCTOBER is a PUPIL FREE DAY. Jubilee staff will be attending Professional Development on “Making Learning Visible” run by Mrs Jo Riddell, Miss Meg King and Mr David Meiklejohn. Please ensure you have made alternate arrangements for your child as there are no classes on Monday.

Less than 8 weeks to go, hold on tight……….. Cheers,

Shane Parry – Acting Principal.

Speech and Drama News

Anita Eldridge – Specialist Teacher

After the success of the Gold Coast Eisteddfod, this term our programme will conclude in late November with the students presenting their ASCA performances at school. The term newsletters and accounts issued this week contain more information about that exciting upcoming event - always a 'hit' with the students and another valuable experience. Please make sure you locate the account and read it carefully as it contains details about this term and classes for next year.

Vacancies for 2014 will be advertised in the newsletter next month. Classes are always popular and places fill very fast.

If you have any questions regarding classes this term or for 2014, please feel free to contact me.

At the end of term three Eisteddfod results were published in the newsletter and unfortunately three children were left off the list. Many apologies to the parents and children - it was their first time performing on the stage and we are just so proud of them!

Weekly Update with Alistair Davies

Summer Sport for Years 5, 6 and 7 will be an Intra – School based program. Competitions between selected grade teams will take place on Monday’s from weeks 4-9, (28th October – 2nd December). Sports covered will include; Basketball, Super 8 Cricket and Tee Ball. The week 4 start will allow for all skill and safety procedures to be covered prior to the commencement of our competitions. Teams will visit each sport twice during the 6 week program and Pennants will be awarded to the most successful teams in each year level. The Intra - School competitions will be held every Monday for six weeks in school time and all within the grounds of Jubilee. Competitions will last for one full hour. During this time, grade based teams will compete for points each week. Year 5’s will play sport from: 9.40 am – 10.40 am, Year 6’s will compete from 11.20 am – 12.20 pm and Year 7’s will compete from 12.20 pm – 1.20 pm. Full teams and sports particulars will be published the week before our competitions commence. I am confident this will be a fun and challenging program for our Year 5-7 students. The variation in sports will allow for indoor and outdoor participation and allow for a taste of formal competitions in three different disciplines.

Catholic Aqua-thon: Invitations / applications will be given to students next week. Students and parents are reminded that this does involve an ocean swim and special permission slips will need to be completed should your child be invited to attend. Places will first be offered to those children who achieved Age Champion at this year’s School Swimming Carnival or who have surf life saving/ nipper experience. While the children will be fully supervised in the ocean, it is important that confidence to swim in the ocean environment can be endorsed by all parents/caregivers of children who will represent the school. The Carnival will be held

on 13th November at Currumbin.

Athletics/sports tops still a few little rascals out there hanging onto Term 3 sports tops. Please hand to Mr. Davies asap. Thank

you to all of the little champs out there who always hand tops in on time.

Exercising and you how did you go in the holidays? Please let me know what you did and how it made you feel? Also by doing

this, I will know who reads the Sports and HPE section of the newsletter!

Yours in Sport / HPE Alistair Davies

BOOKFAIR IS COMING! 3 WEEKS TO GO

SOMETHING TO STICK UP ON THE FRIDGE:

The annual Jubilee Book Fair is fast approaching, 3 weeks until this great event transforms the Resource Centre. So, save those pennies and get ready to buy some great book bargains! Grandparents and Special Friends Day will coincide with the Book Fair on Friday, 8 November. Students will have chance to preview the Fair during their library time and will have the option to write items on their “wish list”. This year, the wish lists can be paid for on-line (like you may have done for Book Club) so when students bring receipt numbers in we can supply them with the books immediately.

You will have heard of the Lotto Superdraw, well this year, we will have a Reader Raffle Superdraw. All students whose names have been in the RR draw throughout the entire year will have a chance to win a voucher at the Book Fair. We will draw a winner each day of the Book Fair.

Tristan Bancks Author Visit

Late last term, the acclaimed author, Tristan Bancks, visited Jubilee to talk to our Year 4 – 7 students. Tristan was not only funny, quirky and entertaining, but inspirational as well! He was able to give the students lots of ideas to inspire their writing, particularly through using technology! The most important thing, which helped him to write, though was simply writing, writing, and more writing! “It doesn’t matter what you write, but the important thing is to just write!” Many times, the children are stunted in their writing because they think it all needs to be good. It was great to hear a brilliant children’s author say that lots of the things he writes, he disguards but some-
