1. WELCOME LETTERS

¡Saludos y bienvenidos a la Copa del Mundo de Huelva 2017!

Como Presidenta de la Unión Internacional de Triatlón (ITU, por sus siglas

en inglés) y como miembro del Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI), pero

sobre todo como española que soy, para mí supone todo un orgullo y un

honor dar la bienvenida, por primera vez en nuestra historia, a la hermosa

ciudad de Huelva, que este año acogerá una prueba de la Copa del Mundo

de Triatlón. Es además sumamente emocionante que nuestro evento

coincida con el 525º aniversario de la salida de Cristóbal Colón desde el

puerto fluvial de Palos en su primer viaje hacia América, celebremos pues el

Encuentro entre dos Mundos.

Aprovechando que Huelva es también este año 2017 Capital Europea de la

Gastronomía, tenemos ante nosotros una magnífica oportunidad no sólo de

disfrutar del espectáculo del triatlón al más alto nivel, sino también

podremos disfrutar de esta maravillosa ciudad, con siglos de historia, hermosas plazas, monumentos

históricos, un puerto bullicioso y una gran oferta gastronómica que harán las delicias de toda la gran

familia del triatlón.

La Copa del Mundo de Huelva 2017, la segunda prueba de esta serie que se celebra esta temporada en

España, tomará la salida en Punta Umbría para recorrer algunos de los lugares más emblemáticos de la

ciudad y terminar en el centro de Huelva, un entorno idílico que permitirá a los triatletas, y también a los

espectadores, disfrutar de los famosos atardeceres de la ciudad andaluza. Esperamos sinceramente que

todos podáis disfrutar de este espectacular entorno, un marco incomparable para una prueba de tanto

nivel.

Quisiera expresar mi más sincero agradecimiento a la Federación Española de Triatlón, la Ciudad de

Huelva, la Diputación de Huelva, la Junta de Andalucía, el comité organizador local, los voluntarios, los

medios de comunicación y a todo el personal de la ITU por haber ayudado a organizar lo que estoy segura

que será un fantástico evento.

El próximo 24 de septiembre Andalucía volverá a ser sede de un evento

deportivo de carácter internacional, la Copa del Mundo de Triatlón ITU Huelva

2017. Enmarcado en los actos conmemorativos del 525 Aniversario del

Encuentro entre Dos Mundos, este evento permitirá que la provincia de Huelva

acoja una de las quince pruebas de la ITU World Cup, la segunda en territorio

nacional, tras la celebrada el pasado mes de mayo en Madrid.

Por su implicación histórica en la efeméride que se celebra, su relación con

Iberoamérica y la singularidad de las localizaciones elegidas, ciudades como

Huelva y Punta Umbría constituyen el marco perfecto para una competición de

estas características y para mostrarse al resto del mundo.

Andalucía acogerá por primera vez una prueba de la Copa del Mundo de Triatlón

en la que Huelva dará la bienvenida a los mejores triatletas internacionales en

un evento que impulsará un entorno privilegiado para el entrenamiento y la

práctica deportiva, albergando una competición de altura.

El aspecto deportivo se realza aún más por el escenario paisajístico e histórico en el que van a competir

los triatletas, así como por una extraordinaria oferta turística a la que se suma el hecho de que Huelva

sea en este 2017 Capital española de la Gastronomía, todo lo cual convierte a esta provincia en un

destino ideal para la celebración de este tipo de eventos deportivos.

Nuestro compromiso con el deporte queda reflejado en el apoyo a esta competición y el respaldo a un

deporte muy popular y de gran afición, de gran sacrificio y esfuerzo, que a buen seguro se verá

recompensado por el disfrute que es, por sí misma, Andalucía y, en este caso concreto, Huelva y su

provincia.

Desde aquí deseo a todos los participantes el mayor de los éxitos, que sin duda redundará en el disfrute

colectivo del Deporte con mayúsculas. Bienvenidos a Andalucía y gran éxito en la competición.

TRIATLON 525 ANIVERSARIO DEL ENCUENTRO ENTRE DOS MUNDOS

La Copa del Mundo de Triatlón va a ser sin duda uno de los grandes eventos deportivos que van a situar

a la provincia de Huelva en el mapa de las grandes competiciones mundiales. Será la primera vez que se

celebre una prueba de estas características en la provincia y en

la Comunidad Autónoma de Andalucía.

Como presidente de la Diputación de Huelva me gustaría darles la

bienvenida a una provincia que os acoge con los brazos abiertos y

espero que vuestra estancia entre nosotros sea lo más agradable

posible.

Hace 525 años, en nuestra provincia, se originó un acontecimiento que cambió el mundo. La provincia de

Huelva participó en él, estuvo presente desde el principio, haciendo de este hecho un activo patrimonial,

simbólico y cultural que permanece fijado en la conciencia colectiva de todo un pueblo que goza de una

firme vocación americanista.

Por eso, en este año 2017, la provincia de Huelva tiene mucho que celebrar porque 525 años después

de que partieran las tres carabelas y la nao Santa María desde el Puerto de Palos, para unir los dos

mundos hasta entonces separados, en Huelva seguimos tendiendo puentes y creando espacios de diálogo

y conexión entre los pueblos de uno y otro lado del atlántico, y el deporte es uno de esos lugares comunes

que favorecen valores como la hermandad entre los países, el diálogo, la cooperación y la solidaridad.

Por eso en 2017 el deporte está siendo un símbolo de esa unión y queremos que Huelva sea el puente,

el lazo que estreche las relaciones entre los dos continentes, Europa y América, a través de la práctica

deportiva, con eventos de un enorme valor simbólico y con pruebas del más alto nivel deportivo como

esta Copa del Mundo de Triatlón.

Una prueba que saldrá de Punta Umbría y finalizará en Huelva, que este año es Capital Española de la

Gastronomía. Con la Capitalidad y el 525 Aniversario tenemos todos los ingredientes para que este año

Huelva muestre al resto del mundo todo lo bueno que atesora, proyectando una imagen de nuestra

provincia en el exterior moderna, orgullosa de su historia, su sociedad y sus riquezas naturales.

Tan solo me queda animaros a disfrutar de una prueba que estoy convencido que será un éxito tanto de

organización como de participación, así como de una provincia generosa con quienes nos visitan y con

numerosos rincones que os harán disfrutar de ella.

Punta Umbría se viste de gala para ser la salida de la Copa del Mundo de

Triatlón. Para nuestra localidad, y para mí como alcaldesa, es un orgullo

que esta tierra acoja un campeonato de estas características.

En primer lugar, me gustaría dar la bienvenida a todos los deportistas y

acompañantes de un evento que pondrá a Punta Umbría y a Huelva en la

élite del deporte internacional.

Poder ser parte de esta prueba es un espaldarazo a una gestión municipal

volcada con el deporte. Este campeonato será un examen para la

capacidad organizativa de Punta Umbría y estoy segura que lo pasaremos

con nota. La unión de las distintas federaciones y administraciones

públicas garantizan que así sea.

Estamos orgullosos de poner a disposición de los deportistas unas instalaciones de primer orden junto a

la experiencia de nuestros trabajadores y una planta hotelera de calidad y los mejores servicios a nuestros

visitantes. A todo esto se unen unos espacios naturales magníficos y que, en ese caso, será el lugar

elegido para el tramo de natación de la prueba.

Los deportistas, y todos aquellos que nos visiten, podrán comprobar que la competición disputará parte

de la carrera dentro de una reserva natural de la Biosfera de la UNESCO, como es Marismas del Odiel y

Punta Umbría. También podrán disfrutar de una gastronomía única y de unas efemérides muy importantes

para nuestra provincia como el 525 aniversario del descubrimiento de América.

Me gustaría que esta Copa del Mundo de Triatlón sean unos magníficos días de competición y de

convivencia. Y os invito a conocer los atractivos de nuestra tierra como son las playas, nuestra cultura,

nuestros parajes naturales, así como el espíritu acogedor y entrañable de los vecinos y vecinas del

municipio.

Huelva se convierte en sede de la Copa del Mundo de Triatlón

ofreciéndonos la oportunidad de proyectar la imagen de la

capital onubense unida a un deporte de superación, una

disciplina que anima a los deportistas a batir las metas que se

propongan. Recibimos en la ciudad a triatletas, ejemplo de

personas dinámicas, inquietas, inconformistas y valientes. Les

damos la bienvenida a esta nueva Huelva, con la que pueden

sentirse identificados porque como ellos, aquí hemos

arriesgado al ver una oportunidad, hemos tomado la iniciativa

para cambiar nuestro destino y creemos firmemente en nuestra capacidad y posibilidades para superar

que supone, nos está allanando el camino para acoger todo tipo de eventos y actividades como esta

prueba de la Copa del Mundo de Triatlón, un acontecimiento a nivel internacional de puro deporte.

El deporte se ha convertido en uno de los motores sociales, culturales y económicos más importantes de

la ciudad. Con la celebración de eventos deportivos, recibimos cada poco la visita de personas llegadas

desde distintos rincones, constituyendo una gran oportunidad para mostrar lo mejor de nosotros.

Llegan en un momento idóneo para descubrir esta ciudad, cuna del Encuentro entre Dos Mundos que

ahora celebramos en su 525 aniversario. Aprovechen para sumergirse en nuestras calles y disfrutar de

una capital cómoda y accesible para pasear, para hacer deporte, para ir de compras y especialmente

para disfrutar de nuestra gastronomía, protagonizada por productos de primera calidad. La amplia oferta

de restauración les permitirá sorprenderse a cada paso, con sabores tradicionales que se reinventan en

cada cocina onubense.

Huelva es luz, cultura y patrimonio en una ciudad acogedora que sabe recibir al visitante para hacerlo

La Copa del Mundo de Triatlón que se celebrará en Huelva

durante el domingo 24 de septiembre servirá para

conmemorar con el deporte, con nuestro deporte, una

fecha tan señalada como el 525 aniversario del encuentro

entre dos mundos. Una aventura que protagonizaron

nuestros antepasados hace ya mucho tiempo y que

cimentó una relación global que ha llegado hasta hoy en

día, acercando a distintas civilizaciones que hasta

entonces no habían sabido de su existencia.

El triatlón es uno de esos deportes que denominamos jóvenes, y que por tanto no cuenta con la historia

ni la tradición de muchos años, pero que por el contrario si es un deporte ejemplar en cuanto a integración

y mezcolanza entre los países que forman su federación internacional, además comprometidos con la

igualdad entre el hombre y la mujer desde sus inicios.

Y que mejor ocasión que este 525 aniversario para que Huelva, y Punta Umbría, vivan de cerca un

espectáculo del más alto nivel de nuestro deporte, y que los ciudadanos onubenses puedan disfrutar del

espectáculo que brindarán los deportistas venidos desde todos los rincones del mundo. De aquí salieron

los barcos que fueron a descubrir nuevos horizontes hace más de cinco siglos y, el próximo mes de

septiembre, a Huelva llegará otra expedición menos numerosa, pero representando a muchos más países

que querrán disfrutar de la tierra y las gentes de esta zona de Andalucía, y así conocer un de primera

mano un activo patrimonial, simbólico y cultural de historia casi interminable.

Mucha suerte a todos los participantes, vengan de donde vengan, y en especial a los nuestros.

Actualmente el nivel del triatlón español es histórico, con tres hombres clasificados en los tres primeros

puestos del ranking mundial, y con posibilidades de firmar un triplete histórico. Y sin irnos muy lejos, uno

de nuestros deportistas más laureados, Emilio Martín, es Campeón del Mundo y de Europa de Duatlón.

La Copa del Mundo de Triatlón no será una de las pruebas en las que le veamos competir, pero seguro

que el ídolo local querrá estar con sus compañeros de selección y ejerciendo de gran anfitrión ante esta

cita histórica de la Copa del Mundo de Huelva.

3. VENUE

3.1. RACE VENUE

The ITU Huelva World Cup, has two different venues; these are the cities of Huelva and Punta Umbría.

Punta Umbría will host the Swim and Transition 1; and Huelva will host half of the Bike, Transition 2, Run

and Finish.

3.2 COURSE FAMILIARIZATION

The swim course familiarization, will take place on Saturday morning (time to be confirmed); although the

quality of the beaches, allow to swim at any time.

Bike course familiarization, will take place on Saturday from 16:30 to 17:00, only on the part of the bike

that is inside Huelva (km20 to km40), one lap, escorted by the police.

3.3. ATHLETE’S LOUNGE

Will be allocated at hotel Barcelo Punta Umbría Mar, in front of the host hotel. Athletes will get into the

parking area, from the hotel, and the lounge will be allocated there, next to the transition one.

There will be a mechanical service, drinks, fruit; and a direct connection to Transition One.

3.4. ELITE ATHLETES’ RACE PACKAGE

Athletes’ race package, will be distributed after the briefing, at Casa de Colon, on Saturday afternoon

3.5. DOPING CONTROL

Doping tests will be conducted according to ITU/WADA rules. The athletes must carry their identification

to the doping control facilities.

3.6. SECURITY

Local Police from Huelva and Punta Umbría, Guardia Civil de Tráfico, Policía Nacional and 112 emergencies

service, will provide the security for the event.

3.7. LOC OFFICE

LOC office will be allocated at Casa de Colon and will be opened from Wednsday 20th till Saturday 23rd,

from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00.

training sessions and during the race. There will be First Aid and Emergency Medical Services at the Race

Village on competition day.

Medical and Paramedical personnel will be available throughout the race. Several ambulances will be

available to provide emergency transfers to a nearby hospital. A medical area will be provided on site at

the finish area.

Medical services at the venue are free of charge. Treatment in private hospitals are to be paid by

participants. Athletes / teams should make sure that they have appropriate medical insurance.

7.5. TIMING CHIPS

On race day athletes will be given a timing chip, to be worn on the athletes’ ankle. Athletes will pick up

the timing chips before the competitions, during their check-in procedure.

7.6. RESULTS

Results will be uploaded live at the ITU official website www.triathlon.org

All the Results information will be distributed to the Team Leaders at the Information Centre, will be

located at Casa Colón.

8. ACCREDITATION

The LOC will provide to all the Organizing Committee Members, ITU Technical Officials, Athletes, VIPs,

media, technical staff, court personnel, volunteers, etc. with an official Accreditation Card.

Athletes and Coaches will receive the accreditations at the athletes briefing.

Only accredited people will be allowed to access certain venue areas. Accreditation Cards provide access

to specific areas of the competition areas.

All accredited people are requested to carry their Accreditation Cards with them at all times, and to show

them upon request. Accreditation Cards are mandatory to enter both venues.

9. OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION

SWIM COURSE

Start procedures: The start, will be from the beach. The Race Referee with assistance of Technical

Officials, who are assigned to the start, will start each race.

The swim course has two laps of 750 metres., and the athletes will exit the beach at the end of the lap.

The course is clockwise and the average water temperature for September is 21ºC.

TRANSITION 1

A flow through transition has been developed to keep athletes moving forward. Athletes enter the

transition and must deposit swim gear in a bin placed beside the bike racks. Athletes' names and numbers

are displayed on the top of each bike rack. After the helmet is secures, athletes unrack their bike by

moving forward into the centre lane and towards the mount line. The T1 has horizontal bike racks.

BIKE COURSE

The first part of the bike course is 20,5 km before arriving in Huelva and passing for the first time

through T2. This first part is totally flat, and not technical. A van with neutral wheels will go behind the

last athlete. Once in Huelva the van will be in a position that athletes pass twice.

The remaining 4 laps are technical and hilly, especially the street called “Cuesta de las Tres Caidas”.

The team wheel stop will be allocated at “Plaza Las Monjas”, 200 metres after T2.

There are 2 scenarios of overlapping:

All the athletes must pass Plaza Punto 0 before passing Transition 2 for the first time, before the

leading athletes are nearly to complete lap 1 (4 laps to go) in Huelva.

All the athletes must pass Plaza Punto 0 before completing the last lap of the bike, before the leading

athletes on the run are turning at that point.

TRANSITION 2

From the dismount line, run through T2 and rack the bike. These racks will be individual.

Running shoes may be placed beside the rack or in the bin.

RUN COURSE

The first part of the course, the one that is shared with the bike, is a little bit hilly until the turning

point. Once the athletes turn into “Plaza de las Monjas”, is totally flat along Martín Alonso Pinzón

Avenue.

There will be 3 aid station along the run course; that will allow the athletes to have the opportunity to

take water 3 times per lap.

The Penalty Box will be allocated on the right side of Martín Alonso Pinzón Avenue, before the end of the

laps.
