Pastor’s Notes

Last weekend our children celebrated the feast of All Saints’ Day (actually Nov 01). They dressed up as saints, St. Francis, St. Theresa and even St. George. These are real people who gave their lives to God. One saint, that threw me for a loop, because I never heard of him was St. Ottone Bonapone. He was from a small town in Italy called Aggripo and protected the pilgrims who came to that town. So, St. Ottone pray for us!November is the month of memory and thanksgiving. So, let us be thankful for the members of our families who have died. All souls’ envelopes are in the pews. Please sign them and put them in the collection box. We will remember them and pray for them at all the Masses during the month of November.

This weekend I will celebrate the Red Sox world Champions and enjoy my dish of macaroni and meatballs! Fr. George______________________________________

Purgatory“The fire of Purgatory is the same as the fire

of hell; the difference between them is that the fire of purgatory is not everlasting”

St. John Vianney

Catholic church is in three states. They are triumphant Church (Heaven), the militant church (on the earth) and the suffering church (Purgatory). The month of November is dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Catholic Church formulated its doctrine on purgatory at the councils of Florence and Trent based on holy scripture and tradition. In the book of 2 Maccabeus we read that “Judas Maccabeus made atonement for the dead, so that they might be delivered from their sins” (2Mac.12:45). Unholy or unclean cannot enter into Heaven. (Rev.21:27) Catechism of the catholic church explains it more clearly: “All who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven.” (CCC.No: 1030)

The catholic church further instructs us that holy souls in heaven can intercede for us but the holy souls in purgatory can’t pray for themselves to enter into Heaven. While on this earth it is the duty of the militant church to pray for the suffering church. Purgatory is not eternal. When we offer holy Mass, prayers, and sacrifices in honor of souls in purgatory, their sins will be forgiven and they will enter into joy of Heaven.

Let us offer all our prayers for the souls in purgatory throughout this month in a special manner.

Let us teach our children about souls in purgatory and the habit of praying for them

Faith Formation News for November

What a blessed day on October 28th as we had 17 "saints" present for our annual "Dress as Your Favorite Saint" day! The children were adorable and I want to thank the families that encouraged their children to participate!

   Upcoming in November:

November 4th: Regular Schedule of classes. Grades 1 and 2 from 8:45 until 9:45 and Grades 3-8 from 11:00 until 12:00. Today our children will be creating cards and letters for our veterans in honor of Veteran's Day! These will be delivered to Chelsea Soldier's Home.

November 11th: NO CLASS THIS WEEKEND

November 17th: We need some volunteers to come and set up chairs in the hall for the Family Teaching Mass. Please come at 5:30 and we should only need a half hour or so. Confirmation 1 and 2 can earn a service hour, so please come!

November 18th: Grades 1 and 2 will have their regularly scheduled classes. Today, we will have our Family Teaching Mass in the Hall at 10:00 for all students and families in grades 1 through Confirmation 2. The Mass will be the class for Grades 3 through 8 today! Please bring a donation of non-perishable food for the Revere Food Pantry.

November 22: Happy Thanksgiving to all!

November 25th: NO CLASS THIS WEEKEND

Looking ahead to December: Pancake Breakfast with Santa (December 9) and Children's Christmas Pageant on December 24th!

Saint of the Day: Saint Elizabeth      Saint Elizabeth was the cousin of the Blessed Mother! Elizabeth and her husband Zacharias were blessed by God with a son in their old age. When Mary learned of her cousin expecting a baby, she left her family and went to stay with Elizabeth for three months. When Elizabeth greeted Mary, she felt her unborn baby "leap in her womb" for joy. Elizabeth gave birth to John the Baptist and from this beautiful greeting, we say the prayer "Hail Mary." Saint Elizabeth's Feast Day is November 5th!"

Purgatory

Prayer: Merciful God, I thank You for all the gifts in my life. Give me grace to be away from sins which are always hindrance to have close communion with You. Bless me to pray for souls in purgatory so that they may enter into joys of Heaven. I ask this prayer through Christ OurLord. Amen.

Eucharistic Adoration

Catechism of the Catholic Church states, Eucharist is the “source and summit of Christian life” (ccc.1324)

We celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King on November 25th, 2018. On that day, we will have Eucharistic Adoration in our Church after the 12:00 Noon Mass. Eucharistic Adoration will be at 1:00 PM -4:00 PM. All are welcome to spend time with the Lord as individuals and as a family to thank God and to praise Him

Hospital Ministry

Since I no longer work at the MGH and the same with Fr. Xavier is only on call for emergencies on Saturdays, we are now un aware of your stay at MGH. So, please let us know if you are going to be a patient or someone you know maybe, a friend or a relative. We would love to visit them and bestow the powerful sacrament of the sick or a blessing and prayer. Please contact the rectory and let us know.

Home Blessing

The center of worship for a family is often the home, perhaps the holiest place there is. The home is where you gather with family to eat, to raise a family, to read the word of God. Jesus said, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him” (John 14: 23).

If you would like to have your home blessed new or old please call the rectory to set up an appointment that works for you. 781-289-1234

Confirmation NewsMeaning of Choosing the Confirmation

Name: Those receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation have to go through many months of instruction, reflection, and prayer. And as a part of the process, candidates are asked to adopt a saint name, their confirmation name, that they will carry with them throughout their life. On the day they receive the sacrament, the bishop will confirm them using their chosen saint name.

When deciding on a Confirmation name, the goal is to pick the name of a saint you admire, can relate to, or aspire to be like. This saint will be bonded to you spiritually and will be your model in life and can be the one you turn to for guidance and protection. Throughout the Bible, there are many examples of people taking on new names, dating back to the Old Testament. God changed the names of many to reflect the special roles they’d play throughout the history of the Church. For example, God changed Abram’s name to Abraham meaning, “father to a host of nations.” This name changes signified that God was making a covenant with Abraham that would make him the first of God’s people on earth. Simon’s name was changed to Peter, meaning “rock” and refers to Peter becoming the first pope: “And upon this rock I will build my church” (Matthew 16:17-18). In short choosing a Confirmation name is get the inspiration and encouragement to be a powerful soldier of Christ like that particular saint.

November 4, 2018 is the “Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time”. On this Sunday, the first year Confirmation students will have their session on “Mary and the Saints” and the second year Confirmation students will have their session on “Choosing a Confirmation Name” at the faith formation building right after the 12 Noon Mass. All the Confirmation students are required to do the sign-up sheet kept in the vestibule.

Hereby I appreciate and thank all the students, their parents and sponsors who were present for the Initiation and Recommitment Ceremonies on last Sunday October 28, 2018.

If you have any clarification, concern or question please call me on my cell 781-244-9162.Thank you.Fr. Xavier
