Confirmation News

“Starting a new job can be nerve-racking, but it's also exciting. You're embarking on a new future, positioning yourself to write a fresh story on a clean slate”. -Adena Friedman

Embarking on a new job or a new event for the advancement in our life is always a challenge. It demands a lot from us. We have to shake off all our petty comforts and conveniences. Especially when it comes with our spiritual advancement, it asks of us more. We need to be more disciplined and responsible. We learn from the past that people who did it have become the part of the history. So, let us get excited about start writing a new page in our spiritual history by embarking on the Confirmation Program.

This Sunday, September 30, 2018 is the “Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. This weekend we start our Confirmation program with the “info” meeting, which will be held in the main church on Sunday at 6:30 PM.

Role of Parents in Catechesis

Every year in our country catechetical Sunday is celebrated in parishes on the third Sunday of September. This year too we celebrated it. The catechetical Sunday provides a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays by virtue of Baptism in transmitting faith to another and bearing a witness to the Gospel. In the following lines I would like to share with the important role of parents in catechesis. Being a parent is highly difficult task in today’s situation. The parents have to deal with many challenges to bring up their children with proper motives and values. Parents receive in the Sacraments of matrimony “the grace and the ministry of Christian education of their children.” (General directory for Catechesis. No: 227). The Vatican Council teaches that “the family is the ‘domestic Church.’ In it parents should by their word and example be the first teachers of the Faith to their children.” (Lumen Gentium. 11). The same idea is again and again stressed by various official documents of the church especially by catechism of the catholic Church. “Parents are the principal and first educators of their children.” (CCC.1653).Regarding faith formation parents are in three levels. Realizing their God-given duty, few parents give proper and necessary attention to the faith formation activity of their children along with other areas. There are parents who think that it is the duty of the church to give faith formation to their children and they send their children to faith formation program regularly. But many parents ignore their duty of educating their children’s faith formation. “The concrete example and living witness of parents is fundamental and irreplaceably in educating their children to pray. Only by praying together with their children can a father and mother - exercising their royal priesthood - penetrate the innermost depths of their children’s hearts and leave an impression that the future events in their lives will not be able to efface.” (Familiaris Consortio. No:60).This is time for all the parents to reflect over the God-given duty of faith formation of their children.

Prayer: Loving God, as a parent we thank you for the gift of our children. As a parent we sometimes fail to take care of our children’s faith formation due to various reasons. We feel sorry for it. Give us grace to concentrate on this area. Bless all the C.C.D teachers who take care of our children’s faith formation in our parish. We ask this prayer through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
