1 From the Acting Headmaster MR M RICH WELL DONE TEAM! Thank you to all involved at our open day and open evening last week, they were a resounding success. I am sure your boys would have told you about the fantastic video they watched in assembly, a true depiction of our wonderful school. This week, we look forward to our Junior Social on Friday evening, a very exciting event for the boys (and girls)! Some staff news - we would like to congratulate Ms Coetsee on her recent engagement and a belated congratulations to Mr Nielsen on his marriage. We wish you both all the very best for your future together. 14 March sees the election of a new Board of Governors. The Board has an important role to play as they represent all parents. We are looking for nine parents who are committed to help maintain our ethos as the School of Choice in the North Durban area. Educators, non-educators and learners all get to vote for their own representatives on the Board. Having handed in our matric entries, one is reminded of how little time is left. Control test, extra lessons and reinforcement lessons have begun. I would urge boys to take advantage of the extra lessons to polish those areas with which they are having problems. The lessons are free and a timetable is posted on page 5 of this publication. The homework centre is run by Mrs Morton and is also an area where a structured environment exists with senior pupils who are willing to act as academic mentors to those boys needing a little extra help. This facility is also free of charge to our learners. If your son has to wait until later for you to fetch him, the media centre stays open until 16h00 and is a quiet and comfortable place to catch up on homework or to read. Sport & Culture From the Head of Extramurals Mr G. Le Roux [email protected]

Deputy Headmaster – Extramurals

NEW SPORT’S WEBSITE

We are very excited to be able to launch our very own new sports website. This website will be the central point of all Sport’s Communication with parents, learners and other supporters. This will replace all other various means of communication with regards to sport. Please note that this week will be the last week that we will be posting fixtures on the D6 and on Northwood News. Our new website will contain all the necessary information required regarding weekly fixtures, tours and even team lists.

Our web address will be www.northwoodschoolsport.com. This website can also be accesses from the Main Northwood School Website simply by clicking on the “Sport” tab on the top of the home page as well as on the D6 by clicking on the “Sport” tab on the left hand side.

You might want to save the address in your favourites and send it to your family and friends. To see at a glance What’s On, Where and When you have a number of choices:

You can either navigate to our Sports Calendar via the main menu, and then select the day you are interested in and then click the Details link. This shows the venue and if we're playing away will have a link to the location map of our opponent's school. You can also see the team selected for the fixture

wherever you see this blue image . Normally we announce team selections at least the day before and in some cases 48 hours before.

From the Sports Calendar you can also click directly through to a team's fixture listing by clicking the Team's Name. e.g. click on the “U16A”.

If you are following a particular team or teams you can also select Sports & Teams Fixtures from the main menu. Then select a particular sport and your team to see upcoming fixtures.

From any teams Fixture list you can “Spy” on the opponents recent results by clicking on the

spyglass button , or see the playing record by clicking on this button , or find their location by

clicking on the map point button . From any team’s Fixtures listings you can also download the entire fixture list to your personal

calendar on your PC or mobile device. Any changes we make to our fixtures will be synchronised with your personal calendar whenever you connect your PC or mobile device to the Internet.

If you need to quickly find an away venue for one of our opponents you can either choose the map link directly from a fixture, available via the “details” button as described above, or you can select “Opponent Maps & Links” from the main menu.

If you are visiting our sports website on your mobile phone you will notice it loads up as a Mobile Web App. The mobile Web App will allow you to access Fixture and Team Sheet information on the go.The Mobile Web App is specifically designed for phone users and the small screens found on mobile phones. You can save the Mobile Web App as an icon to your mobile device's home screen for ease and it will operate and behave like a mobile app.

Adding the Web App to your home screen will vary dependent on your device and browser. Here are links to the instructions for Windows Phone, Android, and Apple iOS:

Windows Phone | Android | Apple iOS As a school, we are very excited about this new direction we have taken and hope it will make the lives of all our learners and parents involved in sport much easier. If you are looking for contact details of an MIC or Director, you may email directly off the “Sport’s Contacts” tab on the left hand side of the page. As with all new things, there may be glitches from time to time that may appear but we are confident these will be few and far between.
