School News
Principal’s Message
November is a month dedicated to Peace. God commands us to seek peace through our actions and attitudes. It is by following the example of Christ that we can have peace with God. We celebrate the virtue of Peacemaking through lessons, class activities, special celebrations, mass and our interactions with each other. Throughout the month, our daily prayers will dedicated to those whose names have been placed in our memorial basket. Our Remembrance Day Ceremony will honour our veterans with poems, stories and participation from our instrumental band. Our students participated well in Cross Country and ten of our students qualified to attend the final City Meet. Congratulations to our athletes and their coaches. The intermediate boys and girls will compete in a Volleyball Tournament early November. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on the evenings of November 14th and 15th from 5:30 -8:00 p.m. Progress Reports will be sent home on November 13th. The report will be a measure of how your child is achieving thus far and an opportunity to collaboratively determine next steps in your child’s learning. Let us continue to work together to ensure student success and well-being. Yours in Christ, Victoria Purri Principal Follow us on Twitter: @transfigtcdsb

Virtue of the Month
PEACEMAKING
“Rooted in Christ: we
Belong, we Believe, we
Become”
Peace is a goal of all spiritual people
Peace begins within ourselves and is an inner
state of well-being and calm.
People of peace promote non-violence,
practice conflict resolution, and believe in
cooperating to solve problems.
The root of the Hebrew word for peace,
"shalom," means "whole" and points to this
twofold meaning: peace within oneself and
peace between people.
PROMOTION OF PEACE:
Catholic teaching promotes peace as a
positive, action-oriented concept. “Peace is
not just the absence of war,” said St. John
Paul II, “it involves mutual respect and
confidence between peoples and nations. It
involves collaboration and binding
agreements.” Peace and justice are linked:
Peace is the fruit of justice.
Let us work together to keep all of our students safe at arrival and
dismissal. Please be mindful of the traffic signs on Ludstone Road.
Do not park in the Bus Loading Zone.
Do not park across the street from the school.
Do not block the Church parking lot.
Do not use the staff parking lot for pick up or drop off.
If possible, please walk your child to and from school to
ease traffic congestion around the school.
Thank you for your continued support.
Health and Safety
Safe Arrival of Children Safety is one of our primary concerns. Teachers will be on duty
to supervise the children at 8:45 a.m. Please be advised that
children should arrive at the school no earlier than 8:45 a.m.
Although there is a staff member on bus duty to assist in the
event of an early bus arrival, the staff duty in the schoolyard
commences at 8:45 a.m.
If your child is absent from school due to illness or any family
matter, it is your responsibility to notify the school. Dial the
school number and press ‘1’ for our answering machine. Please
indicate the name of the child, his/her teacher and the reason
for the absence. Attendance callouts are very time consuming,
and our office may not be able to contact you promptly. By
speeding up the process we can ensure the safe arrival of all the
children in a timely manner.
End of Day Pick Up
Transfiguration of Our Lord Catholic School dismisses at 3:30
p.m. It is the responsibility of the parent to make arrangements
for students to be picked up on time. We understand that
emergencies and delays happen occasionally, but please keep in
mind that our office staff cannot always keep a close eye on
children that are left behind, and we do not want to compromise
their safety
Accidents Despite the constant reminders and attention given to issues of
safety, occasional accidents do happen. In the case of minor
accidents (cuts, scrapes) band aids and ice will be provided. In
the event that a child continues to experience discomfort or is
in distress, it is the school’s practice to notify the
parent/guardian. It is absolutely imperative that the school has,
at all times, an up-to-date telephone number for your home and
work, as well as numbers for your emergency contact person.
