During the week of February 26-March 2nd Mrs Thomas and Mme Pasquale's classes presented their research projects on famous historical figures from the 1600's to the 1900's. Stu-dents presented a speech, a researched project on their cho-sen historical figure and designed costumes and backdrops. Students came dressed up as their figure too! Thank you to all parents involved in helping their child design a backdrop and a costume. From Mrs Thomas and Mme Pasquale

On Friday March 2nd and Thursday March 8th, Mme Pasquale, Mrs Pelech and Ms

Thomas/Mme McGrath's classes participated in a science workshop. The Scientist

visited our classrooms to discuss the theme of Matter in a workshop titled "What

in the World is Matter?" The students had a great time exploring, investigating,

creating, and observing different gases, solids and liquids. They were wonderful

scientists for the day. Thank you to our parent council for providing funds to edu-

cate our young minds. We appreciate your generosity in providing such fun and

engaging science workshops for our students.

students

This passed week the grade 6 cohort took flight as our scientists experimented with balloons to discover the properties of air that are manipulated to achieve flight. They investigated dense air, sticky air and Newtonian laws as they predicted water flow around barriers. Our scientists designed flight control surfaces to accomplish lift and thrust. The "pièce de resistance" was constructing propellers as the scientists concluded that the orientation of the blades was key to creating rotation of the propeller. It was a true "ah ha" moment to see the excitement on the students' faces.

Thank you to scientist Liz and Mr. York for organizing this avionics adventure and thank you to our parent council for helping to fund this event!

As part of a coding unit, Mme Faion-Kralik had the

students break up into small groups and "code" the

steps to a dance that they created using one of their

favorite Gregg LeRock songs. They then submitted the

written code to one of the grade 8 French immersion

classes in the school. The grade 2 class gave them the

song, the written steps and one week to practice.

The follow-up was a videotaping of each grade 2 group

as well as their grade 8 counterpart. The videos were

compiled and the result posted on YouTube. The website

is below for your viewing:

The youtube video was then submitted to Gregg LeRock in preparation for his upcoming concert.

His response is below:

"Salut tout le monde! J'ai bien aimé votre vidéo ... que vous êtes talenteux! J'ai hâte de jouer pour vous autres au Living Arts Centre. On va s'amuser. Brrrra-vo!" Gregg LeRock

Thank you so much for sharing this with us - and for the the great work you're doing with your students!

Amicalement,

Hi there! Welcome to our website batteries for kidz, Our names are Rachel and Olivia and we are here to make a difference in the lives of kids with zinc deficiency's. We are two grade eight girls from Toronto. This year we were asked by our teacher Mr. Caverhill to create a project that would make a difference in the world or community and that would take up 20% of our time (Hence the name 20% time project) We were at WE Day 2017 and heard about a company called Teck, who recycles batteries and and turns them into zinc tablets for kids in need. Our goal is to work with Teck to save 30,000 kids if not more, from zinc deficiency's! That means we need Your help to collect 8334 batteries! 1 AA battery saves 6 children so help us on our journey to save children in need! :)

Salut!
