What is the ADDIE Model? What is the ADDIE Model?

• A popular device used by instructional designers.

• Many models have been created; all models have been shown to work effectively.

• Used to help build successful trainings and tutorials.

The History of ADDIEThe History of ADDIE

• Created by Florida State University in 1975.

• Primarily used by the U.S. Army.

• Quickly adapted by all the U.S. Armed Forces.

• Originally consisted of 19 steps that was later

combined into 5 phases.

• Today it is used in combination with other ISD

models for better performance.

Phases of the Phases of the ADDIE ModelADDIE Model

The ADDIE Model consists of 5 phases:

• Analysis

• Design

• Development

• Implementation

• Evaluation

Each phase is designed to flows smoothly into the next phase

Analysis PhaseAnalysis Phase

• Designer will detect– Knowledge and skills of the learner– Important goals that need to be established– Who is the target audience

• Designer can also determine– Environment – Delivery of learning objectives– Time frame of project completion

Analysis Design Development Implementation Evaluation

Design PhaseDesign Phase

• Design the structure of the course– Coordinate your objectives– Identify contents and strategies based on

behavioral results– Analyze information – Create prototype

• The designer implements visual design – Graphic design– Interface– Media selection

DesignAnalysis Development Implementation Evaluation

Development PhaseDevelopment Phase

• Produce the actual learning criteria

– Develop course materials

– Add assignments

– Create quizzes and assessments

– Review and revise course objectives

– Do a pilot test for a final review

Implementation PhaseImplementation Phase

• Training procedure is developed for facilitators and learners

– This will cover:

• Curriculum

• Outcome

• Method of delivery

• Procedures for testing

ImplementationDesign DevelopmentAnalysis Evaluation

Evaluation PhaseEvaluation Phase

• Formative Evaluation– This part of the evaluation is presented in every

phase of the ADDIE model.

• Summative Evaluation

– Opportunity to receive feedback from the

learner.

– If necessary, revisions are made at this point.
