Question 2: How Does Your

Media Product Represent

Particular Social Groups?

My magazine was aimed at a mainstream mass market. From the ‘find your tribe’ feedback I was given ‘trendie’

therefore my magazine represented a social group of people who were into new things, in all areas such as; music, fashion, celebrities.

Costumes/ LocationThe costumes that I used were clothes that were ‘in’ right now. I also made sure that the

models wore jewellery, did their hair and make-up. This is because the social group of ‘trendie’ that I was aiming for would be interested in people being up to date with the fashions completely. I looked at websites like; Topshop – http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TopCategoriesDisplay?storeId=12556&catalogId=33057 Urban Outfitters - http://www.urbanoutfitters.co.uk/ River Island - http://www.riverisland.com/Online So that I could get a better idea of what my models should be wearing.

The main location I used was at a gig, this suited my audience because, as they would be reading a music magazine, they would be interested in gigs, converts, festivals… so I thought that it would be a good idea to do it there. Also teenagers are often going to their favourite bands/artists gigs as hobbies.

Use of Language/ Mode

of AddressI wanted the language to appeal to those who are of the later teenage years (16,17,18,19) I also used language that would have been appropriate for this age group. For example, what I spoke about would interest them and the type of words I had been using.

Similar Magazine;Q Magazine has social group to me. I can tell this as I used them in my research and

decided that a similar social group to theirs would be good for me.

One of their double page spreads included photos from a gig, like mine did.

But then my contents page, was also similar to NME’s as I used similar headings to them, included the master head on the contents page and had it in a black box also.
