How our film represents social groupsGender

The lack of a female presence within our opening suggests women aren't involved in criminal acts and violence along with all the other things entailed in being a gangster. Therefore they have been presented in a traditional way as they are suggested to be well behaved and uninvolved in criminal activity.

The script in the opening has a lot of imperatives from the male characters, “get out here now” and “give me your coat”. This implicates a traditional representation of men as they are determined to get their own way. Humour is prominent in the dialogue between the two main characters. Almost a sense of ‘banter’ between the protagonists as they make offensive but funny comments to the audience at the expense of the other is traditional of men as they are known for wanting to be the dominant male. The low angled shot of the two male characters are this way to make them look large before a scene of action to show that they are ready and in control. This is a traditional representation of men as they are powerful. There is a close of the antagonist. This shows the character’s emotion at a point where he is very frustrated. This shows a traditional representation of men as violent.

The film opens with establishing shots of props such as alcohol and drugs. Our main character also drinks some of the alcohol . Showing a traditional representation of men as he is shown have the freedom to do reckless acts. The prop of money and this emphasizes the traditional representation of the male character as he is shown to be self-reliant. The character titles are centred around props. Including a knife and a gun. These both show the traditional representation of men as the weapons give the male characters power . The costume the main character is wearing at the beginning of the film shows him without a top. This is a modern representation of men as traditionally the women are shown as sex.. The coat in the opening is focused on through dialect and shows that both male characters are vulnerable. This is also a modern representation of men.

The fast paced matched action cuts throughout the scene, during a scene in which the characters are in chase who are getting away. Show a traditional representation of a male character as they are not afraid of action and the edit emphasizes the fact that they are fast moving, strong characters.

Non-diegetic music is playing throughout we chose a conventional song for our genre for this reason but also because of the fast pace and high bass levels to create a fast paced feel which gives the audience the feel that the characters are slightly rebellious. This is emphasized as the character is shown to have the song as a ring tone as the song is changed from non-diegetic to diegetic to show that this is the music that the character personally likes. This shows a traditional representation of men as the characters are shown as rebellious.
