• Some rock artists also wear make-up, mostly dark eye liner.

• Rock artists are usually in a band that features the drums and heavy guitar.

• The genre rock is a main genre with a wide fan range, the age ranges from 16-60+ but around 60% of those fans are aged 16-25, to both boys and girls.

• The public perceptions of rock are that it can sometimes be a violent genre but this is just stereotyping.

• The cross medias for rock include radio stations such as planet rock, films & events such as concerts.

What distinguishes rock music?

• Guitar is the primary instrument. (Most often electric guitar, but sometimes acoustic.)

• Almost always has drums, bass guitar and vocals.• Other instruments (if they appear) are usually

secondary, supporting instruments.• Songs are most often in 4/4 time.• The typical drum pattern has snare drum on beats 2

and 4 ("back beats").• There are of course exceptions, but this is what

usually features in a rock song.
