Romance/ break-ups.

Looking at this Album cover from Taylor Swift, who is an artist who produces a lot of songs about romance and break ups which is a perfect reflection of the song in My music video and the genre of the footage itself. You can see the cover consists of just Taylor stood as the central figure in the shot with a plain white background but a vibrant, colourful purple dress which makes her really stand out against the backdrop. This is a very simple yet elegant front cover with an effective eye catching colour scheme which draws the attention of potential buyers of the product. Taylor is the central figure and the main protagonist in all of her videos and I think this works well so when it comes to doing my album cover I think I will do something similar with the one central figure, being the protagonist in my video.

This is a cover by Artist Ronan Keating who is a well known producer of Romance/ heartbreak songs and videos similar to the genre in my video. This is indicated by the signs/ Signifiers in the image. He is sat alone, which could be representative of his feelings, such as feeling alone due to a break up or isolated, which would work well with the concept of my videos genre. In the image he appears to be sat in a boat at sea without any means of steering or directing it, this is a signifier that could connote the feeling that he is ‘lost at sea’ which may metaphorically represent his emotions such as feeling lost and hopeless and in need of rescuing. When it comes to making my video using similar concepts will be beneficial as my genre is very similar.

The Fray are a band that commonly produce songs of love and the breakup side of romance. Compared to the previous two artist, This band are a lot slower and in a sense ‘Dreary’ and a bit more artistic, subverting stereotypes rather than following them as their lyrics seem to be a little bit deeper and appear to carry a sense of tragedy behind them rather than the up tempo 4 beat Rom/Pop song. The Central image is of a light bulb that has been smashed to pieces, this relates to my work as the broken light bulb is a signifier that could Connote and representative to a broken heart, suggesting he gave someone his heart but they ‘smashed’ it into pieces. The colour scheme here is good too, everything is dark coloured, with the black surroundings, possibly representing the sadness and hopelessness of the situation and then in the middle amongst the smashed glass there is still light, which represents the glimmer of hope. So in this cover I think Romance/ Break-up is represented in a more clever, artistic way than the previous two covers which Is was I really like about this cover and so will use this as influence when it comes to making my own.

Lionel Richie is arguably the king of all love song singers. This front cover is very simple but that’s what I really like about it, especially the black and white effect put on it. Looking at it there is not a great deal to suggest that it represents Romance or break-ups in anyway you could argue that by looking at the black and white and the stone cold expression on his face it could represent That the enthusiasm has been sapped from him by his break-up. Similar things occur in my actual video when close-ups appear on the protagonist of the video, he will be looking unhappy, and forlorn. So although it’s very simple I think it works very well and you can’t argue with a romance singer like Lionel.
