"THE BURNING OF RABBI KAPLAN'S PRAYER BOOK AND IUS
EXCOMMUNICATION"
RECEPTION TO NEW CONGREGANTS
The Sedrah: "Leikh Lekhah" . will furnish the text for the Rabbi's discourse this Sabbath Morning on the theme: "I'm Only a Jew by Descent'." In this sermon the Rabbi will discuss Jews without Judaism, namely, the agnostics, the members of the healing cults, the "nonsectarian·' groups, and similar units of persons who say they are Jews by "birth but by nothing else." He will consider the quotation from Dr. Charles Odic's book: "Stepchildren of France" quoted by Kay Boyle in "The Nation" £Or 'October 13th: "French to the core, Israel of France had the honor to bear our Cross when it was heaviest. What better patent of nobility!" There will also be a comment upon the reported conversion of Jews to majority faiths in Europe and America, and reference will be included to the recent turning of. a former Catholic from Communism to "the faith of his fathers." How strong is the Jewish religion among Jews? How can Tews come to know the message of Jewish idealism as inherent in our communal solidarity?
