Situations in life often steal our joy. Sometimes we bring them on ourselves, other times we suffer through no fault of our own. I often see how doubt, worry and selfishness bring distress into life and create even more burden.
I’ve witnessed volatile family situations create conflict and stress in the home. I’ve seen good Christian friends fall into temptation that destroys happiness and viewed spiritual opposition that produced fear and hindered believers from living for Jesus. The Christian life is not a smooth path or one without demands.
Beginning the weekend of April 6-7, we will address six difficult issues that plague Christ followers and create a joyless existence. That is not the way God intended for us to live. We must live above our trials and rest in His power and promises.

Guide to Prayer: Remember that this is just a guide. Develop your own prayer connection with God and be open to his lead-ing. Prayer may involve many different elements such as scripture reading, singing, and meditation. It is an ongoing dialogue throughout your day. It is an awareness of His presence and response to His promptings.
Acknowledge – Recognize who God is and praise Him. “I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.” Psalm 63:2
Be Still – Take time to reflect, quiet yourself, and listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Confession – Ask God to reveal anything to you that may be a barrier between you and God and then repent and turn away from that sin.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24
Thanksgiving – Take time to thank God for who He is and what He is doing in your life. “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I ThessalonIans 5: 16-18
Specific Requests – Pray consistently for specific requests. Write them down and keep a prayer journal. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” maTThew 7: 7-8
Surrender – Close your time with God with complete surrender to His will. Ask Him to reveal to you where
He is working around you and to help you walk in obedience. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak…My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” maTThew 26: 41-43
Central Christian will host an open Chapel for prayer on Thursday, May 2nd from 9:00am to 8:00pm for those who would like to set aside some time to pray. Prayer guides will be provided.
A guided prayer service will be held from 7:00–8:00pm in the Chapel.
Also, Central Christian Academy will be holding a Prayer Breakfast at the church that morning. Watch your weekly bulletin for more information to come.

The Heart of ServiceI am so fortunate to be able to serve with Central as the Pastor of Involvement. I enjoy connecting people to ministry and the chance to interact with people each week. Every once in a while, however, I receive an extra blessing from the people who serve here.
L a st month , long t ime member and greeter Connie Vopat came to the office to share the joy she has in greeting each month. The joy she receives (and gives to others, I’m sure) was something I could not adequately tell you about in writing. Fortunately for all of us, Connie is a writer and was kind enough to share a poem she has written about her greeting experience:
“THE SUNDAY GREETER”
I see them coming in the door,Adults and children by the score. It warms my heart to know that theyCome to study, worship and pray.
Parents, whose childrenThey dearly love,Guiding them to know Jesus,The Savior above.
Seniors too, who have livedMany years,Humbly serving Godthrough joy and tears.
Teenagers, of this generation,Who striveTo know Him who will guideAnd direct their lives.
continued next page
They all are welcomed.God has drawn them here.He will fill their heartsAnd let them know He is near.
So Sunday after Sunday whenThey come again,They speak to the WorldJesus lives in them.
I am honored and blessedBeyond any measureTo know each one I greetIs God’s own treasure.
So I pray as they enterIn the church door,May each one meet God hereAnd love Him more.

some of them don’t realize that. They are suffering through some of life’s biggest battles, e.g., overcoming various addictions, trying to go on with life after spousal abuse, coming out of a time of incarceration, etc. In the midst of their
storms, they are looking for some hope and for someone to just tell them that they care. The HHH mission is to help these people with their temporal needs while sharing Christ with them for their eternal needs.
The HHH clients are searching for a hope that only Christ can give. Some of them have looked for help in the wrong places. The enemy has blinded them to the Truth so they do not respond to the hope that Christ can give. But increasingly, many others are responding to the hope that Christ is offering to them. Beyond the recognition and acceptance of Christ as their Savior, one of the challenges for the HHH ministry is to connect these new believers with a Bible study group and/or a Bible-believing church fellowship so that they can grow in their Christian faith.
With this challenge in mind, several years ago HHH started a Hispanic Bible study that has developed into the Casa de Luz church service. These Hispanic believers are currently meeting in the Central Christian Chapel with an average
attendance of around 165 each Sunday evening. Praise the Lord for this body of Hispanic believers!
At the end of January, HHH began a Bible study group for English-speaking clients who have just accepted Christ as their Savior and/or who are looking for a fellowship of Christian believers. HHH staff member, Michael Thorne, is leading this group on Sunday evenings from 5:00–6:00pm. Please pray for this group as they meet together to study God’s Word together.
Thank you for your part in helping HHH to help others. Please remember, and remind others, that any furniture, clothing or other types of items that are
donated to HHH can be instrumental in leading people to Christ. May God bless you for your kindness to others.

Body AcceptanceThe concept of body acceptance may seem foreign to many, if not all, of us. In fact, as I sit down to write this piece on body acceptance, lest you think I have this all figured out, I, too, am struggling with complete body acceptance. It is over one month after the holidays and some of my pants still don’t fit! Nonetheless, body acceptance is a concept which is very close to my heart. We live in a culture obsessed with appearance. Both men and women are constantly bombarded by images of beauty which limit the definition of beauty to a body type and size attainable by less than 2% of the population (Female fashion models are thinner than 98% of the population).Need I also observe that the culturally promoted image of beauty is always young, for women incredibly thin and for men highly muscled? American studies show that 54% of men and 75% of women are unhappy with their physical appearance and wish that their bodies were different. This fact suggests that we could almost all benefit from improved body acceptance. Acceptance does not mean resignation, or not taking action; it has to do with our overall attitude toward our bodies. Acceptance is an active process. I have found that even if you want to change your body, having a positive attitude toward your body during that process can make a significant difference in your journey. Instead of fighting against our bodies, we begin working with them.Psychologist Marsha Linehan teaches a concept called “Radical Acceptance” to help individuals tolerate distress. According to Linehan,
acceptance is not approval, nor does acceptance mean judging something as good. She states, “Freedom from suffering requires acceptance from deep within.” Some of us are suffering because we have such a negative relationship with our bodies. Acceptance is acknowledging what is. In order for us to accept our imperfect bodies, to be able to love, respect and take care of them, we have to first acknowledge where we are in our relationship with our bodies. Then we can begin to work toward a more compassionate response to our bodies instead of hatred, disdain, or dislike. Moving toward body acceptance can also help us make choices to take care of our bodies through nourishing foods and balanced exercise. Body acceptance can also free us from negative body talk and criticism.
Body acceptance is a journey. It requires an active approach to changing our attitudes and judgments toward our own bodies and the bodies of others. It will not happen overnight, but it is a worthy goal. As Christians, Romans 12:2 exhorts us, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern
Therefore I tell you, do notbe anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor aboutyour body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing . . . And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Instead, seek His kingdom and all these things will be addedto you.” Luke 12:21-31

what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” May we each work to renew our minds and have a more compassionate stance towards our bodies. May we take time to nourish ourselves well, move our bodies toward health through exercise and work to reduce our stress. To learn more about body acceptance check out www.haescommunity.org. A group of physicians, mental health providers and other professionals started a movement called “Health at Every Size,” with a focus on body acceptance and diversity. “Health at Every Size” is based on the simple premise that the best way to improve health is to honor your body. It supports people in adopting health habits for the sake of health and well-being (rather than weight control). “Health at Every Size” encourages accepting and respecting the natural diversity of body sizes and shapes; eating in a flexible manner that values pleasure and honors internal cues of hunger, satiety, and appetite; and finding the joy in becoming more physically vital”.

Where will you be on April 28 … when love comes to town?Sign up today!
www.lovewichita.orgOn Saturday, April 28, you have the chance to touch the heart of Wichita.
To transform the very core of our city. To LOVE Wichita … one life at a time. God is calling us to “seek the peace and prosperity of the city” (Jeremiah 29:7) and to answer his call, we’ll partner with churches across the city and from different denominations. Together, we’ll clean, paint, touch and transform
the place we live and encourage the people we encounter.
