As a team, design a solution to activate a public space for downtown San Jose, specifically in Fountain Alley.
PROJECT BRIEF URBAN ACTIVATION
MARKET RESEARCH4 categories to design within -- gardens/wind chimes/bird houses, parklets/stages, seating, and mobile solar hubs.

Log any creative ideas and insights in a designated sketchbook to come together as a team to share and bounce ideas.

Present 20 concepts from categories: gardens, parklets, seating, solar hubs.
BROAD SKETCH IDEATION
WILD IDEAS
Help develop one concept per community member with low fidelity modeling materials to gain insight on what they can imagine in a public space.
CO-DESIGN WORKSHOP SWITCHING DESIGN ROLES
We provided the community with presentation boards of concepts as a whole class in the category of SEATING.
FOCUSED SKETCH IDEATION Present 20 concepts for seating only that
resonate with the chosen designs and insights from the community co-design workshop.
THE COMMUNITY IN MIND
DESIGN FREEZEPropose one highly refined design and how it will activate the space and how it will look.
REAL-WORLD VISUALIZATION
FULL SCALE PROTOTYPEBuild a proof-of-concept to test the functionality of the user interaction.
HOW IT’S MADE
THE COMPLETE MODEL WAS BUILT IN LOCAL COLOR AND DESIGNED TO BE TAKEN APART EASILY AND INSTALLED OUTSIDE.
