DECEMBER ADVENT-TURE:

An exciting or unusual ex-

perience. It may be a bold,

usually risky undertaking,

with an uncertain outcome.

Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this

way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Jo-

seph, but before they lived together, she was found to be

with child from the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph, be-

ing a righteous man and unwilling to expose her to public

disgrace, planned to dismiss her quietly. But just when he

had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to

him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be

afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived

in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you

are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from

their sins. All this took place to fulfil what had been spo-

ken by the Lord through the prophet:

‘Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,

and they shall name him Emmanuel’,

which means, ‘God is with us.’ When Joseph awoke from

sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him;

he took her as his wife, but had no marital relations with

her until she had borne a son; and he named him Jesus.

(Matthew. 1:18-25)

A bold and risky adventure with an uncer-tain outcome, that is how Jesus comes into the world, and it is the journey we continue to ex-perience together as members of the Body of Christ.

We celebrate ADVENT and the birth of Jesus every year, because each year finds us in a new spiritual place. Our relationship with God, with our family, with our body, with our communi-ty….. they are all organic and dynamic, chang-ing day to day, moment to moment, year to year.

This is especially true for us here at Zion this year, as your ministry of Spiritual Development and Healing will welcome new leadership. I pray you will continue to expand your vision and comprehension of what it means to be a

child of God; a disciple of Jesus, a servant of God’s Kingdom, to be one with/in God through the indwelling of God’s Holy Spirit.

This ADVENT-ture calls us to see God’s love manifesting all around us, and to welcome new expressions of God’s care from unexpected people and places, engaging in new communi-cation networks to share the Good News and extend the invitation.

This ADVENT-ture challenges us to ask new questions: How does God provide the wisdom and understanding by which we support and encourage our bodies, through diet and activi-ty, so that healing arises from within us?

How does God provide the techniques and process by which we are able to bring our emo-tions and intellect to a place of being aware and awake and grounded in God’s uncondition-al love?

How do we give substance and form to a community that is a living, breathing revelation of the “Kingdom of God”, 24/7/365?

How do we bear faithful witness to the salva-tion of humanity through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus the Christ?

We are welcoming the opportunity to seek new ways of growing closer to God through different styles of Yoga from India; through Qigong from China; though Yin Yoga and Re-flexology; through a plant based diet, an inten-tional practice of daily meditation / prayer…

Year after year, ADVENT reminds us that we still have a need for Salvation! Humanity still has not yet lived into our full potential as chil-dren of God.

Year after year, God is born anew in our world. The adventure of ADVENT, is to remain awake and aware, constantly open to the new and unexpected ways in which God continues to come into our world.

Wishing you ADVENT excitement, Christmas Joy and a Blessed New Year!

Advent Prayer Message from UCC Resources

Through the chaos and strain of these days, in the busyness and violence of this world, our Advent prayer pleads, “Come, Lord Jesus!”

Revelation 22:20 – “Come, Lord Jesus” – is nothing short of a prayer for the renewal of hu-manity. It is the corrective to a society ravaged by gun violence and mass shootings. It’s an indictment of those who elevate the distinctions of nation and tribe to the status of ultimate allegiance.

It’s a vision of a pristine river of life that emanates from one Source and flows through the central street of a city that is illuminated by love. That river nourishes the roots of a tree that gives life…not to a select few...but to people from every nation and culture.

NEW COLLABORATIONS

The Sozo Ministry of Patchwork Central will be at Central

Library the first Friday of every month from 9:30 to 11:30

a.m. to take blood pressures, talk with people about their

health situations, and provide education, advocacy, and sup-

port for whatever health issues people might have.

Rev. John Rich reports that the library may not be the first

organization that comes to mind when you think of health

care, but it is an important part of the fabric of relationships

that create community. He also stated this will help to bring

greater access, awareness, education, and care to improve

the health of the Evansville community.

Patchwork Central has various programs for after school

children. Tutoring, Arts & Smarts, or the Sparks Program

(like playing a guitar or creating a woven wall hanging).

Something that represents an interest or passion that some-

one has within themselves.

For more information about Patchwork Central you can call:

812-424-2735 or visit their website at:
