NOMINATIONS

Individuals interested in nominating a woman or organization for a Women of Distinction Award may apply to one of the following ten Award categories

JUDGING PANEL Judges are selected for their diverse range of qualifications and expertise. Often they are well-known community and corporate leaders. YWCA Metro Vancouver thanks the exemplary group of Judges for 2013:

CONNECTING THE COMMUNITY AWARD – ONLINE VOTE All individual nominees are also eligible for the Connecting the Community Award. Each nominee selects one of five YWCA program areas to support and provides a quote explaining why. The five areas are early learning and care for children; reducing child poverty; safe and affordable housing; healthy choices for youth and preventing violence against women.

Nominees are encouraged to use social media to promote their selected choice and votes. The recipient of the Connecting the Community Award is determined via a public online voting system. The nominee with the most votes receives the Award and $10,000 will be donated to the YWCA program area of the recipient's choice. This year, Barbara Mowat, President, Impact Communications Ltd., was awarded the Connecting the Community Award. Barbara received 538 votes; she chose to support YWCA’s initiatives in reducing child poverty. Overall, the website logged an astounding 7,116 votes for the nominees, with the top ten all logging more than 400 votes.

OUR MANDATE ALIGNS WITH YOURS The Awards Gala dinner is an opportunity to bring awareness to YWCA initiatives and programs that improve the lives of women and their families across Metro Vancouver. From quality subsidized early learning and care programs for the babies of teen mothers, to safe, affordable housing for impoverished single mothers and their children; from mentorship and employment services to art therapy for children who have witnessed abuse, the YWCA provides more than 43 integrated programs and services in 28 locations to serve those most in need. Women of Distinction sponsors are community leaders as well. They believe in and actively recognize positive change women make within their organizations and beyond. They are actively building and strengthening our community. They encourage and nurture innovation. They believe in social change. Women of Distinction sponsors receive a high-level of visibility before, during and after the event, further imprinting themselves in the minds of our distinguished guests, volunteers, nominees and the public as they are reminded that these Awards would not be possible without their support.

WE ARE LISTENING. WE ARE EVOLVING. Our sponsors have innovative ideas. This is why we strive to treat each one as valued partner and collaborator. Each year the Women of Distinction Awards Gala incorporates the best suggestions we receive because this helps us evolve and respond to the unique needs of our sponsors. We look forward to working with you to craft a unique and exciting opportunity for your organization. New Features for 2014:

• Sponsor Wall - Opportunity to thank and profile our Gold and Silver sponsors.

• Red Carpet Experience – Logo Wall

Your company also partners with an organization that has an excellent reputation for its social programs and services for women and their families. “Often we think of the accomplishments of the Women of Distinction nominees as singular events, but it is the snowball effect of their actions

and attitudes that truly affect positive change. Scotiabank is honoured to be involved in an event that celebrates these remarkable achievements in our community."

-Nilusha Alibhai Vice President, North Coast and Fraser Valley District, Scotiabank

“Receiving a Women of Distinction Award is one of the highlights of my career, precisely because it came from the YWCA, an organization I have

long admired. Our community is a richer and more resilient place because of the leadership of the YWCA and the work it has done to address the complex social problems that impact women and their families.”
