Monday – Maths L.O. To know the difference between AM and PM.

An analogue clock shows 12 hours.

The clock counts round the first 12 hours from midnight to midday. These times are called AM .

The clock counts round the second 12 hours from midday to midnight. These times are called PM.

Watch a video

We also need to know the difference between AM and PM when we read the time on some digital clocks.

Tuesday – Maths L.O. To know the difference between AM and PM.

Have a look at these activities with a sibling or adult.

Do you think they would have happened in the AM or PM? Why?

Monday – Maths L.O. To know the difference between AM and PM.

Create your own table in your book and fill it in with different activities you might have done in the AM or PM.

Meet it: Add four different activities for AM and PM.

Beat it: Add what you were doing at midday and midnight into the correct boxes.

Smash it: Include the digital AM and PM time. We will learn more about this tomorrow so don’t worry if you aren’t sure.

AM PM

8:00AM I ate Cheerios for breakfast.9:00AM I joined in with the Joe Wicks workout.10:00AM I had a go at some Maths challenges.

Tuesday – Maths L.O. To tell the time on a 12 hour digital clock.

Watch a video to tell you about the digital clock

An analogue clock shows the time in 12 hours.

Digital clocks can show the time in 12 hours or in 24 hours.

Today we will look at the digital time in 12 hours and use AM and PM.

Each number on the analogue clock represents 5 minutes so we can count around the clock in 5s.

The digital clock shows the hour on one side and the minutes on the other side. They are separated by a colon.

Wednesday – Maths L.O. To tell the time on a 24 hour digital clock.

When we show the time on a 12-hour clock, we have to use AM or PM to show when the time is.

However, if we use a 24-hour digital clock, we do not need to use AM or PM.

The digital clock counts through 24 hours. After 12:00 midday the clock continues to count to 13:00 (1:00PM).

All the times are shown on the clock and table below.

Thursday – Maths L.O. To find durations of time.

A duration is how long an activity goes on for. To find a duration, we need to know the start and end time of on activity.

Look at this table of zoo feeding times:

Start Time End Time Duration

Monkeys 11:14 11:35

Tigers 14:02 14:30

Seals 15:33 16:14

To work out time duration, it can be useful to use a time numberline. This helps us to break up the time into smaller amounts, which are easier to count.

11:14 11:3511:20 11:30

6 min 10 min 5 min

Use the nearest 5 minute time to help you break up your blocks of time.

Then, add your jumps together to get the total amount

6 min + 10 min + 5 min = 21 minutes

Friday – Maths

Set yourself a 20 minute timer and see how many of these questions you can answer in the time.

Remember to use a method to work out the questions if you need to.

You can use column subtraction, column addition and formal multiplication to help you.

You can use the number square to 100 if you need to.

When you’ve finished, mark your answers using the next page.

How many did you get?

1. 687 + 100 =2. 238 – 100 =3. 187 + 30 =4. 57 – 40 =5. 382 + 300 =6. 693 + 400 =7. 705 + 209 =8. 381 – 165 =9. 12 x 4 =10.24 ÷ 4 =11.25 x 3 =12.52 x 4 =

You’ve worked really hard this week! Well Done

1. 687 + 100 = 7872. 238 – 100 = 1383. 187 + 30 = 2174. 57 – 40 = 175. 382 + 300 = 6826. 693 + 400 = 10937. 705 + 209 = 9148. 381 – 165 = 2169. 12 x 4 = 4810.24 ÷ 4 = 611.25 x 3 = 7512.52 x 4 = 208

It depends. Charlotte might be correct if the analogue clock is showing the time in the afternoon. If it is showing the time in the morning, it would be 00:45.
