Welcome to Redding Way Good afternoon everyone, and a welcome to Redding Way to the players, and officials from Worcester Park, who were the leaders for virtually the whole season until the final games, were pipped to the post by Mole Valley who then gained promotion to the Premier Division. Also welcome to our three match officials today, David Crick, Mark Dewdney and Michael Jones. Having mentioned that our opponents today domi-nated top spot last season, I believe there will be a bit more competition this season for who and how long a team could stay at number one. The two newcomers in the League this season, Farnborough North End were beaten at home by Sheerwater last Saturday, and the other new Club, Hayes Gate, got off to a flying start at Knaphill’s expense. Yes, it was a disappointing start for the team beaten 3-1 on our home ground, the first opening day defeat we have tasted since joining the Combined Counties League. The two halves of the match showed varying contrasts. After Ricky Hogsden had given Knaphill the lead after ten minutes with a cracking goal, the team had plenty of possession with more than their fair share of the play.

But that slender lead did not prove enough, with a rather poor second half performance from the home side, enabling the visitors to put pressure on Knaphill and with three goals in the final 16 minutes of the game, they capitalised on indecisive defending to secure the three points. Amongst other results in Division One last weekend, Worcester Park had a 1-1 draw at Bedfont Sports, Westfield beat CB Hounslow 2-0, Sheerwater had a 2-0 win at Farnborough North End, Hartley Wintney lost at home to Warlingham, in a game that produced the day’s top attendance, and the top score came from Eversley who trimmed Chobham 5-0. There were only three games last Saturday in the Division 1 Reserves, which I thought would have started at least a week later with only 14 teams in the Division. Unfortunately our Reserves lost 2-0 away to Warlingham, and now find themselves without a league game today, just one week into the new season. Their next game will be at Redding Way next Saturday(21st) when Staines Lammas Reserves will be the visitors. Knaphill have a couple of midweek games coming up this month, the first is next Tuesday away to newcomers Farnborough North End kick-off 7.30pm, and after next Saturday’s away game against Staines Lammas who will be playing at Ashford Town FC this season, Knaphill visit Cobham on Tuesday 24th August, kick-off 7.30pm. Our next home game will be the local derby against Westfield on Saturday 28 August kick-off 3pm, and the team finish their seven match programme in August when they visit Farnham Town on August Bank Holiday Monday for an 11.30am kick-off.

and finally, I would like to thank those who helped out at our first match last week, Lynn and Sara for the opening day catering, also to Keith Baron and John Wood. We are still looking for anyone from our home support, that could help out here at Redding Way on matchdays and become part of an ‘off the field’ team. But for now, enjoy the game today…and have a safe journey home. Bryan

If ever there was an anti climax to the opening game of the new season, last Saturday was it. After the ardours of pre season, the excitement and anticipation of playing our first league game at home unfortunately ended rather abruptly when we disappointingly lost to newcomers Hayes Gate.

We started bright enough having plenty of possession and playing with confidence knocking the ball around the park at ease with Ricky Hogsden scoring a cracker from 20 plus yards in the twelfth minute giving us a deserved lead at half time. However, the second half proved to be more difficult because we could not maintain the first half momentum, and in the end we were beaten by a better side.

This was the first meeting between the two sides, and credit where credit is due, Hayes were certainly more up for this game than we were judging by some of the performances on the pitch, but Hayes are not a bad side and judging by this performance will be there or there abouts come next May. Nevertheless, even without some players on the day we had a good enough team, on paper anyway, to have performed better than we did.

There were a number of reasons for the poor second half display, namely the fitness levels are not what they should be which I am determined will improve in the coming weeks, but this cannot be used as a reason for the defeat entirely. Players did not perform on the day and did not meet expectations.

The buck of course stops with me, and I take full responsibility for team selection and the formation we play, and on reflection I probably underestimated the situation relying too much on past performances rather than accommodating the present.

I have always maintained that no matter what formation you choose, it is only as good as the player’s who play in it, although sometimes players need to work that extra bit harder when the situation demands.

Putting things into perspective, this is after all only our first league game, and as disappointed as I was after the game last week, I am certainly not going to panic or make drastic changes, why should I when I have such a good squad of players at my disposal, furthermore I am 100% confident we will get it right and produce the kind of form that we are capable of, hopefully starting today against are old foes Worcester Park who were so unlucky last season not to have captured the league title after leading the way for such long periods.

Enjoy today’s game.

TODAY’S VISITORS

WORCESTER PARK

Worcester Park Football Club is based at Green Lane and is part of the Worcester Park Athletic Club. The name WPAC is a bit misleading as there is no athletics track on the sports field and the only other sporting sections (apart from football) consist of cricket (Surrey Championship Division 2) and tennis. There is also, however, a vibrant social side within its fine clubhouse that also caters for competitive darts and pool with both of these events taking part in the local leagues. The history of Worcester Park Football Club is rather vague. It appears that the club was founded in 1900, but became more established in 1921 when WPAC inherited the ground at Green Lane known as Skinners Field. Whether WPFC played at Skinners Field before 1921 is not known as it is believed that the field was part of church land. In 1949 the football club was admitted to the old Surrey Senior League where it stayed throughout the fifties and early sixties before demotion to intermediate grade football. WPFC then became a founder member of the Surrey County Premier League in 1982 before its name change to the Surrey County Senior League in 2000. In 2003 it joined the Combined Counties League as part of the new Division 1. In the earlier years the club was known as the Skinners, but for a long time now 'come on the Park' has been the call from the touchline.

The second team play in the Reserves division of the Combined Counties Football League and the third eleven (known as the 'A' team) play in the Surrey South Eastern Combination League Division One. The club also provides for a number of junior teams and a vets side.

New Boys Make Knappers Pay

Knaphill 1 Hayes Gate 3

Knaphill began their fourth season in the Combined Counties League on Saturday and suffered their first opening day defeat, losing 3-1 to League newcomers Hayes Gate at Redding Way. The result was a delight for Hayes on their CCL debut, but disappointing for Knaphill, especially on their home ground. Manager Bob Pritchard gave a league debut to Matt Brunt but was unable to call upon the services of central defenders Nathan Miles and Steve Greene, midfielder Tom Davis and was also without new signing Scott Bennett. Knaphill produced a bright start with Matt Baker firing a shot just over the bar in the first minute, then Chris Fox netted minutes after, only to be adjudged offside. Knaphill took the lead after 10 minutes when last season’s top goalscorer Ricky Hogsden (left) delivered a super strike from 20 yards into the far corner of goal. Plenty of possession, commanding a fair amount of first half play from Knaphill as they sought to extend their lead in the half, but it was their opponents who delivered two good efforts, one after 23 minutes when Bradley Hand forced a fine save out of Richard Shelley, and on the stroke of half-time, Hayes almost equalised from Chris Baah, but Matt Burns made a timely goal line clearance to leave Knaphill holding onto their slender lead at the break. Knaphill needed to step up a gear in the second half if they were to extend their lead, but it didn’t materialise, as the midfield and front men lacked the necessary sharpness going forward on goal, whilst the defence were to be undone as the visitors gained more momentum and to some pressure on Knaphill as the half progressed.

A goal Hayes had been threatening came in the 74th minute, the first of three in the final sixteen minutes. Their speedy striker Chris Baah exploited a gap in the home defence to slot the ball past Shelley for the equaliser, and four minutes later, Calum Marriott put them ahead, before the visitors sealed the points when Bradley Hand slotted home the third following a defensive mix up in the 90th minute. Knaphill: Shelley, Cox, Burns, Gamble, Savage, Darnell(Lumley 85), Brunt, Flinn(Pym 85), Hogsden, Baker, Fox(Brainch 69).

Knaphill Football Club began its life in 1924 at Waterer's Park.Waterer's Park was left to Woking Urban District Council in 1924 by Mr Anthony Waterer of Knaphill Nursery. The Recreation Ground was originally part of the nursery called "Blue Gates Field" and the park was laid out by Woking Council between 1924 and 1928 - the task taking so long as the bottom part of the field was very "soggy", whilst the rest was uneven and infested with moles. And these conditions can still be seen over 70 years later! Very little history is known about the Club between 1924 and 1980, although we do know that the team colours were originally red and white. In 1980 Knaphill were represented in the Old Woking and District League (now Guildford and Woking Alliance League) in Division 3 under Manager Dave Holloway. Dave took them from Division 3 through promotion to the Surrey Intermediate League. Dave then left Knaphill to take over Conference side Woking's reserve and youth teams. The late Andy Westcott took over the Manager's position at Knaphill in 1984. Andy successfully took the Club from Division 3 to the Premier Division 1, at the same time Clive Howes was running the Reserve Team, who also won promotion from Division 3 to the Reserves Premier Division 1.Geoff Poulton was to go on to take over the running of the Reserve Team from Clive Howes. In 1990, Mick Garbutt became the Manager of Knaphill and Paul Bambini was running the Reserve Team. Mick Garbutt left the Club in 1994 to join up with Colin Lippiatt and Geoff Chapple at Woking. After this time the club went into decline and was struggling for players for both the First and Reserve Teams. The decision was taken by then Senior Secretary, Sean Carrigy, to approach local team Heathlands, who were playing in the Guildford and Woking Alliance League. Heathlands found themselves struggling for facilities but not players; this gave the two teams the opportunity to amalgamate. Season 1995/96 saw the arrival of Greg Anderson as Manager, with Sean Carrigy running the Reserve Team. In 1996 Dave Freeman took over from Greg as First Team Manager. The Reserve Team Manager's position was handed over to Noff Diliberto in 1997; he left the Club a year later, when Carl Barker took over. Season 2002/03 saw 2 new men at the helm with Mick Garbutt in charge of the 1st Team and Frank Walters in charge of the Reserves. Paul Bailey took over midway through 2002/2003; Carl Barker then had a second spell as Reserve Team Manager with Danny James as Reserve Team Coach and Dave Freeman as 1st team coach. At the start of the 2003/2004 season the club formed a third team named KNAPHILL 'A' to play in the Guildford & Woking Alliance League due to volume of players at the club. Carl Barker took over as A Team Manager with Danny James in charge of the Reserves. The 2004/2005 season brought about further changes at team management level seeing Dave Freeman retiring from playing due to injuries and being appointed as 1st Team Manager with Mick Garbutt stepping down to Assistant Manager. There was also a new man at the helm for the A Team with Kevin Fletcher taking over from Carl Barker who had taken up the Chairman role. The club also moved into there new ground at Redding Way and the re-development of the Waterers Park ground, due to finished by April 2005, giving Knaphill Football Club some of the best facilities in the Surrey area.

Season 2005/2006 was destined to be a big season for the club with the club established at its new ground at Redding Way and the A Team reverting back to Waterers Park having had the facilities rebuilt. 1st Team Manager Dave Freeman continued in charge for the 2005/2006 campaign and appointed former professional with Bristol City, Bob Pritchard, who has also managed at senior level with Chertsey Town, amongst others, as 1st Team Coach. Kevin Fletcher was appointed Reserve Team Manager having impressed by running the A Team the previous season. The 2005/2006 season did prove successful as we won the Division One title on the last day of the season against nearest rivals Virginia Water and gained promotion to the Premier Division.

2006/2007 continued with Dave Freeman in charge of the 1st Team and Paul Bailey re-appointed as Reserve Team Manager. The A Team management was split during the season. Martin Hobson took charge during the first few months but had to resign due to work and family commitments. Gavin Wilcox and Tim Handley then took over until the end of the season. The 1st Team claimed back to back titles by winning the Premier Division Championship which resulted in us achieving promotion to the Combined Counties Football League, the most successful period in the clubs history up to then. Bob Pritchard took over from Dave Freeman as Manager who became Bob’s assistant during September 2007. The 2007/08 season was the busiest the club has ever endured. Over 45 matches were played at Redding Way and the pitch was still the best in the league at the end of the season. Bob Pritchard and Dave Freeman led the club to a very commendable 7th place in the CCL, our first in senior football. The early season had seen Knaphill pushing for a top 5 position, but poor runs over the Christmas & Easter periods saw the clubs performances drop off the leading runners; still 7th place was an excellent result considering the circumstances. Steve Hutton led the Reserves campaign, a massive 40 games with a mixture of good and bad results, beating the leaders of the league on at least two occasions, but dropping too many points by conceding late goals. The 2008/09 season started with a most welcome new face, the former Bisley and Farnborough Assistant Manager, Ian Savage. Ian joined us as player/coach and with his experience and knowledge this club has the right to feel proud that he chose to join Knaphill after receiving many other offers from teams at higher levels. With a reduction in League games in Division One to 34 from 38 in 2007/08, Knaphill entered two new Cup competitions. the Anagram Trophy and the Southern Combination Cup, both of which saw an early exit. However, the team kept a high profile in the League staying in the top half of the table all season, eventually finishing in fifth place. They could have become champions had they won their last game of the season when, in a tightly bunched set of teams in the top six. Knaphill on 69pts needed to win at Farleigh to pip Staines Lammas to the title. Disappointingly they lost 3-2, so near yet so far. The Reserves finished ninth in their Division with the second half of the season providng a 17 match sequence losing just two games. Adie Wilson having taken over in November from Graham Pope gelled well his players and together that was shown with the results. In the close season Terry Chapman was voted in as the new Chairman, replacing Nick Croshaw who stood down after two seasons. The newly formed Ladies side will also come under the senior banner and once again enhance on the size of the football club. Plans for floodlights and hard standing alongwith a 100 seated stand at Redding way are moving forward with the help of Woking Borough Council who continue as in recent years to support the football club. The 2009/10 season saw the team finish third in Division One, their best placing in the three seasons in the Combined Counties League. The previous two seasons the Club finished in seventh and fifth positions. Third would normally have gained the Club promotion, but due to the proposed floodlights installation being delayed, Knaphill have to make another challenge for promotion in 2010/11. The team won 26 out of their 40 league games, losing 10 with 4 drawn, scoring 98 goals and finishing with 82 points. Season 2010/11 is the first for a Youth team at the Club, with Knaphill Youth U.18’s playing in the Allied Counties League.

WE’VE GOT YOUTH ON OUR SIDE

Youth Team News

SEMI FINAL DEFEAT Knaphill's Under 18's were knocked out of the Arsenal Tournament at the semi final stage with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Camberley Town. Shaun Jeal was on the scoresheet for the Knappers. Next up for the Under 18's is a pre-season friendly against Chertsey Town Under 18's on Wednesday at Alwyns Lane, kick off 7.30pm. Brief report below: Knaphill faced a strong Camberley side without their most experienced players as the fixture clashed with the start of the league season at senior level. With another very young side that included 5 of their 15 year old lads, 8 players recruited from Farnborough and Lyne U16 and just 2 senior youth lads Knaphill contained Camberley without really threatening them. Height advantage was always going to be a factor and Knaphill conceded from a corner and a throw in before half time. The second half, with Knaphill pushing an extra player forward, was evenly contested and with 15 minutes to go Shuan Jeal finished with class after a great move. Knaphill then pushed hard for an equaliser without luck. The tournament has been a great learning curve for some talented youngsters Knaphill have recruited and shows the club is already building youth sides for future.

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY Chertsey Town U18’s 0 Knaphill U18’s 2 Knaphill Under 18's pre-season preparation continued last night with a 2-0 win over Chertsey Town Under 18's. With both sides using large squads and rotating players the game was scrappy in parts and at half time the score was 0-0. Knaphill took more control in the second half and the ever dangerous Josh Kipping scored both goals from set pieces. It was another good learning curve for Knaphill with a mixture of age groups on show. Special mention to young 15 year old keeper Craig Taylor who came on in the second half, once again looked very comfortable and made a save of highest quality in the last minute to deny Chertsey a consolation goal. Next up for the youth team is Farnborough Under 18's on Monday 16th August, here at Redding Way, kick off 6.30pm.

PLENTY IN RESERVE

Reserves Latest Combined Counties League – Reserve Division Saturday 7th August Report courtesy of Warlingham F.C Warlingham 2 Knaphill 0 Preparation for this season has been as good as I can remember it and the Reserve team squad suggests it will be a very strong season again this time. We go into this match with some new faces among both the players and the management team and in particular Simon Mayhew has joined Scouse/Peter V and Dave Stuart. The pitch at Verdayne is not perfect but has improved with recent rain and the players were in new kit thanks to sponsors Valley Homes. With the team photo having been taken before the game we were ready for the off. It didn’t start quite as we would have liked with early pressure from Knaphill making it look like it was going to be a difficult afternoon. Our young goalkeeper, Joe Burge making his debut for the club kept us in it during the early exchanges with a couple of good saves and one exceptional save down to his right-hand side. Wars were playing on the break and whilst Manning looked dangerous, causing problems with his pace he was often short of support and despite getting past the Knaphill defence he either crossed with nobody getting on the end of it or shot wide from acute angles. A tactical change moving Ben Stuart back into midfield and pushing Stephenson up front seemed to settle Wars and we finally started to play with more chances being created for Manning in dangerous positions and we started to push Knaphill back. Manning went close on 24 mins and created an excellent cut back from the by-line on 27 mins following some great football down the left-hand side. Unfortunately Stephenson could not get a good connection under pressure from the Knaphill goalkeeper and his effort rolled just wide. Shortly afterwards a good cross coming in from the right was met with a powerful header from Dom Chivers which flew past the stranded Knaphill keeper and Wars were one up. Rather than calming things down it all got a little excitable and you would have thought we were one down and not the other way around. This eventually erupted when Brady was fouled in the middle of the pitch and was subsequently booked for some “handbags”. Several others were also lucky not to incur the ref’s wroth. After a stiff talking to from Manager Edwards the second half was underway and Wars started well on top with Manning again terrorising the Knaphill defence and blasting over as soon as 3 mins after the re start. Shortly afterwards the heavens opened and we had a long period of heavy rain forcing the Warlingham faithful back to the comfort of the club house. Still Wars pushed on and all of the nerves and squabbling seemed to have disappeared as we began to outplay Knaphill across the park. With 51 mins gone Manning swept down the right-hand side and crossed for Ben Stuart to score at the near post and you could see the Knaphill resistance start to melt away. The game carried on in much the same vein with little activity in the Wars half of the field until the 75th minute when Hodge fouled the Knaphill forward right on the edge of the box and was duly booked. Whilst the free kick came to nothing this seemed to spur Knaphill on and it resulted in a more uncomfortable last 15 mins for the Wars defence.

victory over Worcester Park at Redding Way. Ricky Hogsden grabbed his first goal for the club

which saw the Knappers lead 4-1 at half time.

Despite plenty of possession in the second half, only a Ian Savage penalty, his first goal for the club was the home sides only reward for there persistance despite not firing on all cylinders.

BRIEF ENCOUNTERS KNAPPERS V PARK

FULL RECORD: PLAYED 6 WON 3 DRAWN 0 LOST 3 SCORED 10 AGAINST 8

Games between Knaphill and today’s visitors only date back to 2007. Since then it has been evenly matched with Knaphill winning two and losing one here at Redding Way and Park winning two and losing one at Green Lane. The very first meeting was back in September 2007 and our first season in the Combined Counties. A single was enough to separate the two sides with a bullet header from Orando Pike, pictured below.

Orando Pike scored our first ever goal Worcester Park.

The 2008/2009 season saw the Knappers put in a convincing display as we ran out 5-1 winners with a first half hat trick from Matt Baker and a goal each from Ricky Hogsden and Ian Savage as detailed below. Knaphill produced some positive, fluent and attacking football including a hat-trick for Matt Baker, as they gained maximum points in the convincing 5-1 win over Worcester Park at Redding Way. Knaphill couldn’t have wished for a better start, when after just two minutes they took the lead. David Stevens floated over a fine cross and Matt Baker planted a firm header past Williams in the visitors goal. Minutes later, Baker fed the perfect ball through to Ricky Hogsden, whose effort was parried by the keeper, trickled towards the near post and pushed away for a corner. Then after 17 minutes, it was Hogsden, proving a lively wire up front, who won a race towards goal with a defender attempting to close him down, but the Knaphill newcomer had that extra edge to slip the ball past his opponent and the keeper to make it 2-0. With Knaphill continuing to spray the ball around, sharp and precise passing putting their opponents on the back foot in those early stages. But it wasn’t all one way for the home side as the visitors threatened a few times in the first half hour and squandered a couple of opportunities. However, a bit of hesitancy in the home defence allowed Petruzzcielo through to slip the ball past Shelley to reduce the arrears after 27 minutes.

Matt Baker fires in his second against Worcester Park in the 5-1 win.

On 32 minutes Knaphill’s two goal lead was restored when Ian Savage, making his league debut for the club, threaded a perfect pass through to Baker who coolly slotted home. Shortly before the goal, Knaphill were denied what appeared a certain penalty when Nick Darnell was floored in the box. Several moves were to continued to stem from Knaphill’s midfield controlled by Savage, as Knaphill went in search of another goal.

Worcester Park launched a couple of dangerous attacks, one of them seeing an effort denied by Shelley in the home goal. Then just on the stroke of halftime, Knaphill stretched their lead when Brian Murphy was fouled in the box, and Baker stepped up to fire home with fine aplomb to make it 4-1 and secure his hat-trick. Park still found space and effort to trouble Knaphill on occasions in the second half, but Shelley brought off three excellent saves to keep them at bay. At the other end, Baker heading towards goal, was to see his rasping shot turned over the bar by the keeper. Knaphill still pursued a fifth goal but had to wait until late in the half. Still staying in control, Knaphill then rounded off a good afternoon’s performance in the 82nd minute. Matt Miller was fouled in the box, and Savage fired home from the spot with sheer simplicity for a final 5-1 scoreline. The last time we met here was back in September 2009 when our visitors ran out 3-1 winners as Knaphill’s see saw season continued. Although the first half produced the better football for Knaphill, the second failed to lift the tempo sufficiently enough to change the outcome of the final result. It brought them their third home defeat in five games at Redding Way. Last season it took them six months before losing that number of home games. However, off the back of successive wins over Farleigh Rovers and Westfield, Knaphill were hoping to keep the momentum going. But there were enforced changes to the side, Greg Alexander was in for the injured Matt Baker, Sean Harvey had his first full start in place of Matt Edwards, Lee Gamble made his Knaphill debut, and they were without defender Gavin Branch.

Of the early efforts, Ian Savage had a shot veering wide of the visitors goal, before Worcester Park showed their early intentions, one bringing a good save from Richard Shelley from the oncoming Hurston. But the home side found themselves trailing after 13 minutes when Hurston’s header from 6 yards put the visitors one up. Shelley was in action again saving from Chaney, whilst at the other end, Ricky Hogsden saw his header gathered with relative ease by the keeper. Had Knaphill been able to push home a bit more advantage from their early work rate, the game might have been taking a different route. But the home defence were also having to deal with some quick pace from their opponents. Nick Darnell should have made an impact on the game after 28 minutes and levelled the score. Alexander slipped the ball to Hogsden who in turn found Darnell whose glaring miss, sailed over the bar. After 39 minutes, Park brought out a finger tip save from Shelley to divert the shot away for a corner. Two minutes before the break, Savage’s free kick found Hogsden who fired just wide of the far post. The second half was failing to see a rise in tempo from Knaphill, although King in the visitors goal did deny Knaphill on a couple of occasions. After 77 minutes Knaphill were awarded a penalty. Without regular penalty specialist Matt Baker, it was Ian Savage who struck a strong spot kick which brought out an excellent save from King diving to his right to deny an equaliser. That virtually killed off hopes of Knaphill salvaging anything from the game, although they did reduce the deficit, courtesy of an own goal by Nichols in the 89th minute. But there was no last gasp equaliser from the home side, as it was left to the visitors to seal the points in injury time with virtually the last kick of the game.

The

Final Word BY TERRY CHAPMAN

It all started so well with a goal from Ricky Hogsden. He probably will not score a better goal this season. But instead of kicking on from a good start we seemed to buckle under pressure. Bob Pritchard did seem to think he got the tactics wrong but we have a good enough side to be able to play different formations. I do hope we get back to playing as we finished last season as quickly as possible. The Reserves had a difficult start and were beaten 2-0 at Warlingham Reserves. I was particularly concerned about a message I received from our secretary Bryan Freeman on the Friday before the game. The message being we can’t get a side out. You may not all realise but this would have been a fine upwards of £150.00. Also we would have lost our good reputation in the league. Anyway we managed to start with a bare 11. I know people go on holiday but do you really sign for a club and not make yourself available for the first game of the season. This would not have happened in my day. Get your priorities right. FOOTBALL, WIFE, DRINK, HOLIDAYS. On some occasions the order might have changed but FOOTBALL always came first in my book. Marriage is for the cricket season, don’t forget!. A positive from the first game at home was the amount of work put in to put this game on. Our new General Manager Dave Freeman put in a faultless performance in having the venue and the organisation second to none, long may that continue! Many thanks must go to our new kitchen staff Sara and Lynn. The service and standard was very high and we had a special thank you from the opposition which is always good news, well done. We also had tremendous help from Bryan Freeman, John Wood on the gate and Keith Baron on the ground and car

I am reliably informed by the committee members that have been members of this club for years, that we never win our first game of the season. Well you were not wrong there then!

We are a few helpers short but if all concerned keep pulling there weight we will have a first class organisation. This Sunday is our annual Golf Day. This is taking place at the Ridgemount Club, Sunningdale. This is a great golf course, what it lacks in length it makes up in beauty. It is a very difficult course to score well on and many have failed here. After the golf we are guests at Englefield Green Cricket Club. We will be having the prize giving there followed by a B.B.Q. and copious amounts of club priced drinks. Today also is the start of the Premiership. To coincide with this we are starting our new competition called Last Man Standing. If you want to join in it is fun and will help team spirit and clubhouse banter. You will have the chance to win the pot which could be as much as £200.00!. One third of the pot will go to club funds. So join in and have some fun. By the way this costs £10.00 to enter, this is not per week and if you stay in the competition you can have a good run for your money. It has been known since I have run this game that the pot can be won in two weeks and it can go on for 8 weeks!. The Bonus Ball will carry on every week. This costs £2.00 per square and you can win £65.00. If you buy a number then remember it and watch out for the lotto draw on Saturday night. The number of people that give me £2.00 and then forget to check if they have won is amazing. Luckily I have a record of it and bring the surprise to them. All money that is collected from the two games above is ploughed back into the club. So when after the game find me in the clubhouse and have a go. The lottery ball last season pulled in over

£1600.00 in to the club. Another date for your diaries is Thursday 11th November. We are jointly hosting a dinner at Foxhills Golf and Country Club with Eagle Radio. This is a prestige event and may be out of some pockets. We are committed to sell 5 tables of 10 people for an individual cost of £55.00. If you or your company can help, let me know. This will go a long way to helping fund our club for the season. We have plans to get this club to function financially off the field and with the winning mentality on the field. So be part of it and join in.

Well I hope you are all looking forward to the start of the Premiership and that you have forgotten the woeful attempt by England to win the World Cup. We are really struggling for players because of all the foreign imports. We do want to watch the best players but please let’s get some manageable limits on it. You only have to look at the state of the goalkeeping problem. We have to play a forty year old in goal because our so called best goalkeeper can’t catch. Well when you read this we will know how well we performed against Hungary. I cannot be part of the so called supporters who are supposed to boo the England Team. This would not happen in Scotland or Ireland. Let’s get behind our team starting with Knaphill Football Club. Thought of the week from Randy Lerner Chairman of Aston Villa, Martin O'Neill "no longer shared a common view as to how to move forward". You must be joking Mr Lerner. Give the England job to Martin O’Neil now! Famous quote from the legend Bill Shankly “Football players, like prostitutes, are in the business of ruining their bodies for the pleasure of strangers” Good luck to the boys today.
