Rafiki JazzRafiki Jazz is the UK’s fast-rising world music collective playing tracks from their acclaimed debut album‘More Big Muzik from Over There!’
As a big and diverse family of star African and Latin musicians and outstanding local singers andmusic-makers, they play an inspired fusion of ambitious contemporary global dance music. Fronted byan electrifying all-Yorkshire vocal trio featuring the fiery Swahili taarab singing of Zanzibari Real Worldrecording artist Mim Suleiman, alongside bossa-jazz singer Rosie Brown’s cool liquid stylings andnewcomer Vanessa Chutturghoon’s sultry creole. Their live shows deliver an ecstatic babble of voices,languages, melodies and beats, where beatbox meets berimbau….. and Brazil greets Banjul.

CimarrónThis is the debut tour for Cimarrón, a Colombianseven-piece who wowed audiences at WOMEXin Seville last year with a spectacularperformance of joropo music and dance.Hailing from the vast Orinoco plainswhich stretch from Colombia intoVenezuela, joropo is a fast traditionalrhythm played on harp, bandola and cuatroaccompanied by bass, cajon and maracas whichCimarrón fire up with a flawless virtuosity andheart-stopping sense of drama.
Led by harpist Carlos Rojas, Cimarrón have beenexperimenting with the music of their homeland forthe past 20 years. Their new album Astar Artes hasbeen released to co-incide with its Spring UK tour.

Juan Martin EnsembleA celebrated virtuoso of the flamenco guitar who has been voted one the top three guitarists in theworld by US magazine ‘Guitar Player’, Juan Martin is a native of Andalucía, and has formed his owninternational company for the promotion of high quality flamenco coming direct from his country.Juan has recorded 18 albums, mostly as a composer, and performs with a highly distinctivecompositional style formed from his early years in Málaga. Further experience and polish came throughrecordings with the Royal Philharmonic and live performances with artists of the calibre of Miles Davis.

ShirazA film by Franz Osten with newly commissioned scoreby Sarvar Sabri performed live by the Sabri Ensemble
The story behind the creation of the Taj Mahal is told in this remarkable historicblack & white silent film which is accompanied by a live performance of a speciallycommissioned score from Sarvar Sabri that brings together musical influencesfrom across the globe.
Commissioned in 2008 for the Lichfield Festival, Sarvar Sabri leads his ensemblein an exploration of melodic and rhythmic influences drawn from South Asian,Latin American, jazz and Western classical traditions. The line up of tabla,sarangi, violin, piano, vocals, bass, sitar, saxophone and flute combine to createa rich soundscape that seamlessly complements the original film.

kalimba, Kadialy Kouyate from Senegal kora, vocals and Brazilian Marcelo Andrade sax, flutes rabeca. Togetherthey create a cocktail of infectiously funky rhythms and intimate soulful ballads.
