WELCOMING TIPS 1. Wear your nametag. If you need a nametag, sign up for a laminated nametag (free) or magnetic nametag ($7) in church office. 2. Circle of 10. Greet anyone who comes within 10 feet of you. Make a special effort to greet people you do not already know. 3. Rule of three. During the first three minutes after the service, talk to people whom you do not know or who are guests. Why three minutes? That is the average time it takes guests to exit after worship, so it is important to connect before they depart.

It’s that time of year again! The Pumpkins are coming!

During the month of October, lots of people pass through our patch. Not

only is the pumpkin patch a fundraising effort for our missions program,

it is also a way for our church to be involved with the community. We

love to see friends and neighbors come to enjoy the "sea" of orange

pumpkins. Many families mark the occasion with photographs of their

children taken at the patch. As a part of The Patch, preschools and

elementary schools are invited to visit and hear a story.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Pumpkins will arrive on Saturday,

October 10th at 11:30am. Many hands make for short work and lots

of fun, so sign up for the unloading team! There are many more

opportunities to serve as the patch is open daily from the time they

arrive until Halloween.

If you'd like to volunteer in the Pumpkin Patch, please sign up after

services with Ashley DeGilio, Michelle Colan or Gerrie Geerdes or

go online to www.graceontheisland.com, click on Ministries, then

2015 Pumpkin Patch.

See you at the PATCH!

Sunday pick up and take home ministry is a great

outreach to our homebound and shut-ins. This ministry enables them to

come to church to worship God with their fellow Christians in faith. We

are in need of drivers! We are flexible with your schedule! If you are

interested in volunteering in this ministry outreach, please give Trina a

call in the church office 488-1374.

We have MINISTRY volunteer opportunities available

for you in the front office! NO experience necessary; we will train you.

Volunteering consists of answering the phones, and greeting, directing people

to the correct staff member. There may be some light filing and coping. You

are welcome to bring a book to fill the quiet moments.

Regular every week volunteers: you would pick a shift that works for you and

work the same shift every week.

We have 1 shift available: Wednesday 12 -2:30pm

Sub Office volunteers: would be contacted to sub for a regular volunteer’s shift.

If you are interested, please contact Trina in the office.

STEPHEN MINISTRY

A Mission at Grace UMC

The Stephen Ministry Program at Grace Church equips lay persons to provide

distinctively Christian one-on-one care to those who are experiencing one of

life’s difficulties.

Stephen Ministry is a nationwide program and was named after Stephen, the

first lay person appointed by the Disciples to “go out and help meet the needs

of the people.” (In Acts 6:5 Stephen is characterized as a man full of faith.)

Stephen Ministers are trained to be:

• Confidential

• Non-judgmental

• Dependable

• Good listeners

• Christian friends

Stephen Ministers are NOT: professional counselors, ordained pastors, or

problem fixers. Stephen Ministers are always paired with the same sex.

Examples when it would be appropriate to use a Stephen Minister: ✓ Hospitalization or suffering from a serious illness ✓ Grieving following a death or serious loss ✓ Issues or concerns of those experiencing a divorce ✓ Problems facing the elderly ✓ Personal struggles within a family ✓ Isolation following incarceration ✓ Spiritual crisis or feelings of abandonment ✓ Any circumstances that could be made easier with the support of a

Christian friend no matter how big or small

If you feel the need to speak to a Stephen Minister, call the Pastor. All

communication held in confidence. (If you feel called to be a Stephen

Minister, speak to the Pastor. Classes form soon.)
