As we come to the end of yet another school year, it’s time that we look back on the wonderful events and achievements in our school over the past term.Once again, thank you to all our parent community for your continued support and dedication to our school.

Website award; We received fantastic news in March as we became scoilnet star site for the

month. Scoilnet recognised the excellent, colourful layout and user friendly nature of our website. Thanks to all the staff for keeping the

site up to date with recent events!

Confirmation; On Friday, March 15th, our 6th class pupils celebrated their confirmation along with four other schools in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney. They put in a huge amount of preparation for the day. They represented their school and themselves so well. Thanks to Mr. Looney for preparing his class for the day.

Seachtain na Gaeilge;


Seachtain na Gaeilge was held in the school from March 1st-17th. We had a wonderful array of events from Cluiche Bingo to drámaíocht to Tráth na gCeist. The children really enjoyed our frásaí and the many activities. Our motto for the two weeks – Bain Triail as!!

Board of Management; The Board of Management of Loreto National School met on Tuesday, 25th June.Yearly review of our Anti-bullying policy and our legislative and regulatory checklist.

Our school inspector, Mr. Gerard Quirke, visited our school to review our school self-evaluation. He was very complimentary of the on-going work in our school.New board of management will be in place from December 1st 2019.


Summer Works application has been made to the department. Junior Entrepreneur; Our 5th and 6th class created a beautiful piece based on the judicial system in Ireland. It was a huge success and the feedback has been great. All the copies printed were sold out and the class made a nice little profit!!

School Bingo; On Thursday, May 2nd, we had a fantastic turnout in our school hall for our fundraiser family bingo. It was a huge success and we raised over €2000 for our school. There were some amazing spot prizes. Thanks to our parent’s association for organising it all -including tables, spot prizes and refreshments!


Gymnastics; Our 6 week block of gymnastics began after Easter. We were delighted to welcome Flairs to our school. Each class had a 50 minute class. The equipment was amazing and everyone really enjoyed this experience!

Holy Communion Holy Communion was celebrated on Saturday May 25th 2019. It was a fantastic day. Our second class pupils sang and read beautifully. Their artwork really brightened up the church. Everybody returned to the school hall for a family reception with some lovely scones and refreshments for everyone! Thanks the Mr. P O’Sullivan for preparing his class.


Thanks to Mr. Looney and our school choir for providing beautiful music.

The Gap trip6th Class took part in their annual trip to the Gap of Dunloe on May 10th. It began with a visit to St. Mary of the Angels in Beaufort where we received an amazing welcome. The boys and girls played and sang songs for the pupils along with doing some sports. They also made a donation to the school using their confirmation money. We continued to walk up to the Gap of Dunloe, stopping for lunch along the way. We then got


the boat back to Ross Castle, stopping on Inishfallen Island for a prayer service.


Voting;As we are not a voting school, class continued as usual on Friday, May 24th!We held our own election in the school. The student council counted them up and well done to Maura Healy-Rae who came out on top!!


School tour season!!The pupils of Loreto National School were delighted when they heard of their school tour destinations this year!Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st class took on the journey to Catlegregory to visit Sandy Feet Farm. 2nd and 3rd class went to Eclipse Adventure park, Kenmare where they took part in many team-building and muddy activities!4t, 5th and 6th class went off to World Adventure Camps in University of Limerick where they completed a mixture of water based and land activites! They even saw some Munster players!!


Cookery SessionOur 6TH class were invited to take part in a cookery session in Tralee I.T . The dawned their chef hats to create a variety of food – Pizzas, Lemonade, Salads etcThey even bought some home for their families!!


Mini-beats and Irish Mammals;All classes had a huge treat in June when Shonagh Gray visited the school with her collection of Irish Mammals. Each class had a 40 minute session where they learned about the lives of these mammals and used pooters and microscopes to investigate what was in our field!!

Congratulations to our 6 th class who graduated from Loreto National School recently. They have been such role models and great representatives for our school!We wish you all the very best in your new schools!
