PREFACE
Publication of this report and its counterpaÍ "water euality Research in NewT,ealancl" was initiated at the request of the water euality Research committcc of thcWater Resources Council. The reports are intended to be working documents forreference and contact by researchers and operational staff. They will be amended andupdated on a regular basis.
Previous repofts in this series have been published as Water and Soil TechnicalPublications I and 3, and Water and Soil Miscellaneous Publications 2 and 3. Futurereports will appear in the Miscellaneous publications series.
Most of the projects detailed in this report were in progress at 30 June 1978, butsome recently completed and proposed repofts are also included.
Names of individuals are given as points of direct contact. Contributors wereasked to provide information on the commitment of man-days to the project, expectedduration, stage of completion, and proposed channel forpublication of results. In thisyear's publication a cross-referencing system has been introduced. Full details ofprojects are given under the most relevant heading, and a project number assigned. Theproject number is cross-referenced under other relevant headings. This should enablean adequate identification ofprojects by subject area.
