Water and lavatory project - KUSAL ARANA

SRI LANKA The Kusal Arana Organization wants everyone in Sri Lanka to have a healthy life style. Poverty and poorhealth in Sri Lanka is closely linked together. This shows the symbol of poverty. The Organization hasidentified that the lack of proper Lavatory facilities and drinking water are major issues in rural areas inSri Lanka. People don’t have adequate access for sanitary facilities in rural villages. This causes hugehealth problems and high level of water pollution.

The Kusal Arana trust has commenced a project to build 100 toilets and pure water (Tube wells) for ruralvillage people who don’t have proper lavatory facilities and not having clean drinking water in Sri Lanka.Access to safe, drinking water can transform lives. It helps to prevent kidney and other harmful diseases.Providing one tube well will ensure that a number of families can have sufficient access to get clean waterfor drinking, washing and their daily works.

Lavatory plan, that gives,

• Individual toilets with flushing that connected to the mains drain system. (Water and drainage

system where possible).

• If main connection is not available, then facilities with a built in water supply and drainage tank

• Toilets will be made with proper ventilated,

• Plan for running water tap next to the toilets with (where possible)

• The toilet will be made with squat toilet (Not the commode).

• Floor must be polished cement or red cement (Tiling where possible based on the cost)

About the project cost and funding

Kusal Arana has planned to build 50 toilets as an initial stage due to cost of the each toilet is very high.Each will be around Rs. 85,000 – 100,000.00 based on the areas and material availability. All financialarrangements will be arranged by the members of the KUSAL ARANA.

Drinking water project (Tube well)

Kusal Arana has identified lack of clean drinking water is also a major issues in Sri Lanka. Members ofthe Kusal Arana individually visit the places of selected areas and make the feasibility report to get theapproval from the Kusal Arana directors. After finance arrangement for the project finds, the contactorand release the money. Each tube well allocated for the 15 families to full fill their daily requirements. Allthese conducted by the Kusal Arana supervision.

Cost of the each Tube well

Cost will be depend on the areas and how deeply mayhave to be drilled. Some of the areas may have 100-150m to be drilled and some areas 50 to 100m willget a chance of water. That may effect for the cost to go very expensive to make one well. Therefore eachmay cost Rs.150, 000 to 250,000.00 to build a one well.
