Greater Poland Voivodeship

After the last administrative division of Poland Wielkopolska Province ranks second in the country in terms of area and third in terms of population.

Approximately 25% of the total surface area covered by forests, on lake districts in the northern and central part of region is about 800 lakes, the largest natural reservoir of the Wielkopolska

province is Powidzkie Lake (1036 ha). Odra and Warta are the main rivers of the region and the capital of Wielkopolska is Poznań.

Malta Lake, the favorite recreation area of residents and tourists, is located just east of the city center. Situated in the center is stunning Malta Lake itself.

This artificial lake was built in 1952 from the waters of the Cybina River.

BasilicaBlessed Virgin Mary

Sorrows, Queen of Poland

Its construction started in 1994, and was completed in 2004. It is the largest in Poland, and the seventh in

Europe and eleventh in the world, Shrine of Our Lady. It is 139 meters

long, 77 meters in width, the height of the tower is almost 130 meters.

Visible from afar a huge dome of the Basilica is 36 meters in diameter and 45 m in height. The temple has 365 windows and 52 doors, symbolizing the days and weeks a year, to the

interior of the basilica lead 33 steps of stairs, which refer to the years

of the life of Jesus Christ.
