Mindfulness in the Classroom
We know that to really make a
positive impact on children’s mental
health, we need to provide them
with skills that can be used
throughout their lives. If we tune in
to our body and our mind through
mindfulness and meditation, we can
improve our learning. The Smiling
Mind Education Programs are
mapped to the curriculum and
designed to support educators to
bring mindfulness into the classroom.
The Smiling Mind Education Program
offers mental health and wellbeing
tools designed for primary and
secondary aged children. It has been
successfully implemented in a wide
variety of government and non-
government schools with positive
results in classes of all sizes,
backgrounds, locations and ages.
The Smiling Mind Education Program
has been proven to help students
with sleep, wellbeing, managing
emotions, concentration and school
behaviour including reductions in
bullying. The program also assists
with:
stress management,
increased resilience,
increased creativity,
better decision making, and
a sense of calm, clarity and
contentment.
Research has shown that involving
the whole community – teachers,
parents and students – is the most
effective way to gain the long-lasting
benefits of mindfulness.
VOLUNTARY SCHOOL CONTRIBUTIONS
School fees are now due. The cost of contributions remains unchanged again this year
at:
1 child - $45 2 children - $55 3 children—$65
Although voluntary, school contributions are a vital addition to our school budget each
year. Did you know that the funds made available by the payment of school
contributions assist us in providing:
Pencils, textas, sticky tape, glue, paint, crayons, craft supplies, photocopy paper,
photocopying, exercise books, art paper, library books and all the other consumables
that are provided for every child at Wagga Wagga Public School .
The money raised allows us to have the funds available to also allocate for laptops,
sporting equipment, subsidising events, gardens and so much more which makes our
school special.
Voluntary school contributions can be paid at the office or online and can be paid in
instalments throughout the year. Please support your school by choosing to pay
your families school fees in 2017.
SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Our annual swimming carnival will be held at the OASIS Aquatic Centre next Friday, 24th
February. All students in Years 3 to 6 will attend. Any Year 2 students who are 8 years
old this year and can competently swim 50 metres are also able to compete. We hope
to see lots of parents and friends support our carnival, either by volunteering to assist or
cheering on our students. Above all please remember SUN SAFETY for our students.
PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT
Next Tuesday, 21st February we will be having our beginning of the year Parent
Information Night. This will be held at the school at the following times:
5.45 – Junior School – Kindergarten and Year 1 in the Kindergarten rooms and then Year
1 to 1P room at 6.00.
6.35 – Middle School – Years 2 and 3 in the Library
7.10 – Senior School – Years 4, 5 and 6 in Mrs Elsley’s room
This is a terrific opportunity for
parents to meet their child’s
teacher for the year and to
hear about the opportunities
being provided for their
learning and education.
Have a great week.
Leanne

Did you know that Wagga Wagga
Public School is a proud member of
the Wagga Wagga Community of
Public Schools (WWCOPS)
This network of schools includes
most of the Primary and Secondary
schools in Wagga Wagga and the
smaller schools affiliated with
Wagga.
It was established in 2015 to
provide greater opportunities for
inter-school collegiality, support
and professional growth. Each
term, representatives from schools
meet to discuss initiatives to
promote and strengthen Public
Education across our schools.
To date, we have established many
opportunities for our staff to work
together on Professional Learning
and networking. By sharing
learning, resources and ideas, we
are, in turn, providing improved
opportunities for our most valuable
assets—our students.
WWCOPS has as its banner
statement:
Diverse in Culture—
United in Learning
and has a graphic representation of
the silver banksia as its emblem.
The silver banksia is the floral
emblem of Wagga Wagga and the
flower spikes coming out from the
central spike represent the many
Public Schools in Wagga working
together to achieve the strategic
directions of NSW Public Education.
K-2 ASSEMBLY CHANGE
K-2 Assembly change There are a few changes to our assembly time and routine this
year. Year 2 students will be joining the Junior School team for
our assemblies this year. These will be held every Tuesday
afternoon from 2.40-3.15pm. It was noted in the newsletter last
week that these assemblies would be fortnightly, however, for
our K-2 students only, we have changed this so they are held
weekly. The middle and senior school assemblies will remain
fortnightly.
We welcome any friends and
family members to join us in
celebrating the achievements of
your children.
Thanks
K-2 teachers

our school between Tues, 28th Feb to

SRC and House Captains Assembly
The Student Representative Council involves a group of students that have been elected by their peers to represent
their class and promote their views on school decision making. As part of this role, these students will participate in
meetings (during school hours) and help to organise and run school events and fundraisers.
The Sporting House Captains have also been elected and are responsible for organising, encouraging and leading
their sporting house members during school competition events such as the Athletics and
Swimming Carnivals.
On Thursday 23rd February at 2.30pm (week 5) we are holding a special whole school assembly under the school COLA to present the Semester 1 SRC representatives and school House Captains with their badges. We invite any parents, grandparents, family and friends to come along and share this exciting time with these students.
