REUNION LUNCH

Members who joined the library study visit to Republic of Korea, Japan and Kuching, came quipped with

nostalgia for a reunion lunch on 27 Aug 2020 at a Korean Restaurant to relive the sweet memories of

the visits undertaken. After an appetising lunch of Korean fried chicken, fired chicken with garlic, fried squid,

bean sprouts, and grilled fish, served with banchan (side dishes) also known as Oi Muchim which are an

iconic part of Korean cuisine, then it was time for picture taking. Thank you to Hjh Norsenah and Hjh Pusparaini

for the treat.

REUNION DBP BRUNEI LIBRARIANS

On Sunday 30 August 2020, some 25 Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei librarians who joined from 1979-1985 gathered for a long overdue reunion over high tea at a hotel in Jerudong. Members were in high spirits and mood as they gathered round each other happily chatting away catching up on news and stories on family and their well being. Photo taking was a must for keepsake. Thank you Tuan Hj Abu Bakar Hj Zainal for hosting the reuinon and the committee members who worked real hard to contact members for the reunion.


ISLAMIC DA’WAH CENTRE DISTRIBUTES “BUKU PANDUAN MENGHADAPI WABAK PENYAKIT”

On 12 August 202- In support of the

government's initiative in containing

issues relating to COVID-19, Islamic

Da’wah Centre held a distribution

ceremony of Buku Panduan Menghadapi

Wabak Penyakit. The guest of honor was

the Acting Director of the Islamic Da’wah

Centre, Ministry of Religious Affairs

(MORA), Awang Abd. Aziz bin Haji Abd.

Kahar.

Among the recipients were from the

Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB), as well as the representatives from the government agencies,

the Library of higher and technical education, Secondary and Primary Schools, Arabic Schools, Mosques and

Senior Officers of the Islamic Da’wah Centre.

The ceremony highlighted the Buku Panduan Menghadapi Wabak Penyakit in a video presentation and

continued with the distribution of the guidebook to all 50 recipients..

Among the objectives of this ceremony was to express gratitude for the

blessings of ‘success’ that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala has bestowed on

Negara Brunei Darussalam in dealing the widespread of COVID-19. The

distribution of the guidebook also aims for it to be practiced by all

Muslims in Brunei Darussalam in accordance of realizing the country’s

vision of ‘Negara Zikir’ especially in facing and dealing with any

pandemic and calamity.

The book contains some efforts and practices of the sunnah taught by the Prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam in

preventing and controlling the spread of diseases such as practicing good hygiene, maintaining the safety of food

and drink, preventing harm and so on. This book also contains the medical practices of Rasullahh as an initiative

and effort in facing any diseases which is a form of tests from Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala. Apart from that, the

fatwa of Mufti of the Government of Brunei Darussalam relating several issues of the COVID19 also included in

this book.

An e-Library Meeting was held on 22 July 2020 at Bilik

Laila Muafakat, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei in

Berakas chaired by Dy. Emy Suryaney binti Hj Hipny

Head of Library Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei. A

briefing was given by Awg Hadiyatul bin Haji Yahya,

Library Officer Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka about the

frequently encountered issues, system upgrade and

discussion on project conservation which will end in

April 2021. The meeting was attended by the Focal

Officer from the Ministry of Religious Affairs Library, Islamic Da’wah Center Library, History Center

Department Library, Department of Museums Library and the Attorney General’s Library.


BOOK LAUNCHES , BOOK GIFTS AND BOOK RELATED ACTIVITIES

18 July 2020 Politeknik Brunei (PB) received a donation of 50 books for its Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB)-related module. The handover was held at the PB’s One Stop Centre in Jalan Ong Sum Ping from the Founder and Managing Editor of Qasrun Nafis Publishing House. The new additions, titled ‘Brunei the Origins’ and ‘Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah: Fulfilling the Maqasid Al-Shariah’, are expected to enrich the reading and research material at the Learning and Library Department, which is continually expanding its resources in support of lifelong learning. 29 July 2020 Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei Library received book donations from the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. 30 July 2020 Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali took the initiative of establishing a UNISSA’s Book Corner on selected Arabic schools, to disseminate research findings and scholarly publications across the country. The effort is one of several UNISSA undertakings in distributing its publications as collections and reference sources for Arabic school libraries. 1 Aug 2002 Brunei Read (B: Read) having had successful Book Drives in Bandar had expanded their Book Drive with the launch of Book Drive: KB Edition. Volunteers from Bandar and KB joined their first meet-up for the event. Book Drive Wagons were made available at 4 different cafes in Kuala Belait. B: Read welcomes book donations and adoptions, and encourages the public to borrow or swap books. 12 Aug 2020. A book 'Buku Panduan Menghadapi Wabak Penyakit' or Handbook to Tackle Disease Outbreak was launched. It is published by the Islamic Da'wah Centre with the support of Perbadanan Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei, TAIB. 15 Aug 2020. First year students of Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan received the Mushaf Brunei Darussalam and its translations, as part of the Public Service Department’s infaq to KUPU SB . The handover was held during the MIB Syakhsiah Leadership Programme Ceremony at the KUPU SB Tarbiyah Hall.

17 Aug 2020. The State Mufti’s Office launched two new books, COVID-19: Apa Kata Mufti (Siri 2 & 3) and COVID-19: Bimbingan Syara’ dan Isu-isu Ibadat

17 Aug 2020. Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali’s Book Corner was launched at Ma’had Islam Brunei in Tutong , for UNISSA to share its publication with Arabic secondary schools and promote intellectual activities among students and teachers. 18 Aug 2020. Two promotional materials have been produced namely the publication of two reading books and production of four promotional videos for Wawasan Brunei 2035. The Launching of Wawasan Brunei 2035 books for primary and Secondary schools. The books will be distributed to primary and secondary schools as well as libraries nationwide. Meanwhile, E-book will be published at the Wawasan Brunei 2035's website. The publication is a joint effort between the Curriculum Development Department and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei. Three objectives of Wawasan Brunei 2035 are educated, highly skilled and successful citizens; high quality of life of the people as well as dynamic and resilient economy 19 Aug 2020. With the launch of the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025, it is now time to move and mobilise resources towards digital transformation. Through the Smart Nation Office, the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications is working closely with various stakeholders in advocating for digital transformation. This was among the matters highlighted at the Borneo Bulletin Yearbook Networking 2020.The Borneo Bulletin Yearbook is a comprehensive guide to Brunei Darussalam, providing updated business information with special focus on FDIs, investment opportunities and the nation's developments and diversification efforts, in line with Brunei Vision 2035.


IBTE INDUSTRIAL ATTACHMENT AT UNIVERSITI TEKNOLOGI BRUNEI LIBRARY

Sawal and Syamsiah Remlle, three HNTec in Information and Library

Studies students from IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus who

completed our 3 months industrial attachment at Universiti Teknologi

Brunei Library from 2 May to 31 July 2020.

We made a presentation of our 3 month’s attachment on 30 July

2020 which was also the last day of our attachment. Present were the

President of Brunei Darussalam Library Association, Puan Hajah

Nellie , Puan Hajah Pusparaini Haji Thani, Senior Librarian, UTB

Library, UTB Library staff and IBTE lecturers. The presentation was

held at Bilik Fawaz Training Room, UTB Library.

As freshies, the 3 months attachment was an eye-opener for us to learn the work of a librarian, having to be

meticulous by paying great attention to precise details when collection data. We learnt a lot through doing a

variety of library routine tasks such as book processing, indexing, collecting newspaper-cuttings, cataloguing

books to SPYDUS system, circulation of books and data entry for new membership , and shelving of books. In

addition, we were tasked with a mini project which was creating a UTB Library website design.

18 Aug 2020 Brunei sees increase in mobile data consumption with a 20 per cent increase in broadband usage, with broadband penetration up by 60 per cent and over 2,800 new orders monthly. There has also been a 22 per cent increase in the daily consumption of mobile data, with each mobile customer consuming 18 per cent more data.Meanwhile, 61 per cent has been recorded in the daily consumption of fixed data, with each fixed broadband customer consuming 31 per cent more data.

21 Aug 2020 A strong earthquake has occurred in Katabu, Indonesia's Flores Sea, 1,596 kilometres away from Bandar Seri Begawan at 9 minutes past 12 noon, The Public Works Department, Ministry of Development in its press release confirmed that the 6.6 magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of 650 kilometres. The seismic waves were detected by Public Works Department's Seismic Station at 12:12 in the afternoon.

Awangku Muhammad Asyraff Haziq Iman previously from Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan will pursue MEng Electronic and Electrical Engineering, at University College London, United Kingdom. Dy A'isyah binti Muhamad Yusop previously from Sekolah Menengah Arab Laki-Laki Hassanal Bolkiah will pursue Syariah Wa Qanun at Universiti Al-Azhar, Mesir. 3 Sept 2020 Signing of MoU between the Ministry of Health and Politeknik Brunei, for the Collaboration in the Field of Cardiovascular Medicine. The Cardiovascular Technology Programme is a Level 5 Diploma which is equivalent to the Higher National Diploma . The 3 years programme covers various modules in medical field, anatomy, psychology including practical session.

3 Sept 2020 Universiti Teknologi Brunei and Radio Television Brunei inked a MoU to develop mutual collaboration in the field of creative media. The main objective of the collaboration is to produce a series of innovative ideas that serves as a platform for the students to enhance their creativity in producing programmes for television, radio and new media.
