Pregunta: Qué es la Adoración Eucarística

Respuesta:

La Práctica de la Adoración es un ritual de hace

siglos y cae en la categoría de devociones y rituales

que están asociados con el Sacramento de la

Eucaristía. En una manera particular, la Adoración

Eucarística es una extensión del culto y adoración

al Santísimo Sacramento que ocurre en cada

celebración de la misa.

La antigua práctica, un periodo de Adoración Eu-

carística continuamente termina con la

“Bendición,” la bendición de la fe con el Santísimo

Sacramento.

Muchas parroquias en los Estados Unidos han in-

troducido la practica de la Adoración Eucarística

perpetua. Mientras que otras comunidades tienen la

costumbre de periodos cortos de Adoración Eu-

carística. Debe tenerse siempre cuidado con esos

periodos de adoración respecto a las instrucciones

contenidas en el libro litúrgico sobre Santa Comu-

nión y Adoración de la Eucaristía aparte de la Mi-

sa. Este libro contiene instrucciones para la cele-

bración de la Adoración Eucarística.

A pesar de que la adoración al

Santísimo Sacramento nunca to-

mará el lugar de la Comunión Eu-

carística, muchos Católicos en-

cuentran gran confort y consuelo

en sus oraciones antes de que la

Eucaristía se vuelva a poner en la

seguridad del tabernáculo o cuan-

do sea expuesto en la custodia

(ambas igual de validas, ya que

Cristo no está mas expuesto en una

que en la otra). Pero cuando consi-

deramos nuestras devociones eu-

carísticas, es siempre importante

recordar la conexión fundamental

que hay en estos actos de devoción

en la celebración de la Eucaristía

durante la Misa y la recepción de

Cristo en la Comunión.

Question: What is Eucharistic Adoration?

Answer:

The practice of Eucharistic Adoration is a

centuries old ritual and falls within a broader

category of devotions and rituals that are

associated with the Sacrament of the Eucharist. In

a particular way, Eucharistic Adoration is an

extension of the worship and adoration of the

Blessed Sacrament that occurs in every Mass.

In a long-standing practice, a period of Eucharistic

Adoration often ends with “benediction,” the

blessing of the faith with the Blessed Sacrament.

Several parishes throughout the United States have

introduced the practice of perpetual Eucharistic

Adoration, while other communities have the

custom of shorter periods of Eucharistic

Adoration. Care should always be taken that these

periods of adoration respect the instructions

outlined in Holy Communion and Worship of the

Eucharist Outside of Mass, the liturgical book that

gives the instructions for the proper celebration of

Eucharistic Adoration.

Although adoration of the Blessed

Sacrament can never take the

place of Eucharistic Communion,

many Catholics find great comfort

and consolation in their prayers

before the Eucharist enshrined in

the tabernacle or when it is

exposed in the monstrance (both

are equally valid, as the Christ is

not more present in one than in

the other). But when we consider

our Eucharistic devotions, it is

always important to remember the

fundamental connection these acts

of devotion have the celebration

of the Eucharist in the Mass and

Communion.

How timely and powerful the prophet’s words. As the

Church begins the new year, the song of the angels –

“Peace on earth and good will toward all!” - is lost in

the din of the drums of war. Young men and women,

old men and women, children, Hindu, Muslim, Jew and

Christian raise the swords of intolerance and hate

against one another in the name of God. Not too long

ago few of us knew the word jihad. Now its part of

every day language. Whether jihad or crusade, violence

in the name of God blasphemes the very holiness of God.

More than 40 years ago Pope Paul VI broke with tradi-

tion and traveled to New York, the first of many papal

journeys. His purpose to challenge the nations of the

world to put down their swords and embrace one an-

other in peace. Throughout his address to the United

Nations he accented his words with the refrain “No

more war!” His challenge to the nations carried on with

Pope Benedict XVI.

It is worth noting that in all the flap during the recent

elections about pro-choice, pro-life, little reference was

made to the Pope’s opposition to the war. Why the si-

lence? Whether one speaks of Iraq, the Sudan, Af-

ghanistan, Kosovo, Cabrini Green or East L.A., vio-

lence seems to rule the day. But worse, religious folk

seem to find all kinds of ways to justify the violence.

Sadly, at this time, too many Catholics take their under-

standing of Christmas more from the Gospel according

to Target, than the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of

Luke. The challenge of these weeks of Advent and

Christmas is to listen to the Word of the Lord. It is

very much a troubling Word, a disturbing Word, and yet

a Word that gives hope.

Our political leaders of both parties justify the call to

arms. Few, whether Democrat or Republican, have

given thought to taking a different course of action in

dealing with the violence of our time.

Listening to the prophet Isaiah, we are challenged to

rethink issues such as the concept of the just war, the

use of capital punishment, etc. Somehow an image keeps

coming to our mind –the image of oppressed peoples

with bare hands tearing down the awful Berlin Wall,

heralding the end of Western communism and tyranny.

Not one gun was fired, not one life was taken, not one

drop of blood was shed. Yet freedom came and with it

peace.

Qué oportunas y poderosas son las palabras del profeta

Isaías. Al empezar la Iglesia un nuevo año, el canto de

los ángeles— “Paz en la tierra a los hombres de buena

voluntad” - se ha perdido en el estrepitoso ruido de los

tambores de guerra. Hombres y mujeres jóvenes, viejos,

niños Hindúes, Musulmanes, Judíos y Cristianos han

levantado las espadas de la intolerancia y del odio el

uno en contra del otro, en el nombre de Dios. No hace

mucho, algunos de nosotros conocíamos la palabra

yihad. Ahora, es parte de nuestro diario lenguaje. Ya

sea yihad o cruzada, la violencia en el nombre de Dios

blasfema la santidad de Dios.

Hace mas de 40 años que el Papa Pablo VI rompió la

tradición y viajó a Nueva York, el primero de muchos

viajes papales. La intención era retar a las naciones del

mundo a bajar sus espadas y abrazarse en la paz. A

través de sus viajes por las naciones, acentuó sus pala-

bras con el refrán “No más guerra!” El Papa Benedic-

to XVI continuó llevando este reto a todo el mundo.

Vale la pena hacer notar que en todo el ruido que se

hizo durante las recientes elecciones acerca de la opción

por la vida, en favor de la vida, se hizo muy poca refe-

rencia a la oposición del Papa a la guerra. Por qué el

silencio? Ya sea que se hable de Irak, de Sudan, Afga-

nistán, Kosovo, Cabrini Green o del lado Este de Los

Ángeles, la violencia parece gobernar nuestros días. Pe-

ro lo peor es que nuestros compañeros religiosos pare-

cen haber encontrado todo tipo de formas para justifi-

car la violencia.

Tristemente, en estos tiempos, muchos Católicos toman

los conocimientos acerca de la Navidad, del Evangelio

según Target, en vez del Evangelio según San Mateo y el

Evangelio según San Lucas. El reto que encontramos

en esas semanas de Adviento y Navidad es para escu-

char la Palabra del Señor. Es una Palabra un tanto pro-

blemática; una Palabra perturbadora, pero más aún, una

Palabra de esperanza.

Nuestros líderes políticos justifican el llamado a las ar-

mas. Muy pocos Republicanos o Demócratas han dedi-

cado tiempo para pensar en otros cursos de acción para

solucionar el problema de la violencia en nuestro tiempo.

Escuchando al profeta Isaías, aceptamos el reto para

pensar más en asuntos como el concepto de una guerra

justa, del uso de la pena capital, etc. De alguna manera,

tengamos presente la imagen de la gente oprimida con

sus manos desnudas cuando tiraron el horrible muro de

Berlín, proclamando el fin del comunismo y de la tiran-

ía Occidental. Ni una sola arma fue disparada, no se

perdió ni una sola vida, nadie derramó una sola gota de

sangre. Y aún así se logró la libertad y con ella la paz.

Es algo para pensar!

We look forward to welcoming your child into the life of the

Church. It is required for parents to attend two preparation

classes before having their child baptized. Please call the

Parish Center to register for classes prior to the birth of your

child. When choosing godparents, please keep in mind that

godparents are required to be practicing Catholics who have

received the sacraments of Baptism, the Eucharist, and

Confirmation and are at least 16 years of age.

WEDDINGS: Arrangements are to be made six months in advance

with one of the priests.

RECONCILIATION (CONFESSION): Saturdays, 4:00 to 4:45 p.m. in

the Church, or anytime by appointment.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK: Call the Parish Center immediately in

case of emergency, or to schedule a visitation for the

homebound or for the hospitalized.

NEW PARISHIONERS: Registration in parish required for

Baptism, Religious Ed. Classes, etc. Please stop by our Parish

Office between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

HOMEBOUND, NURSING HOMES AND HOSPITAL VISITS: Priests
