Men’s Basketball Travels to St. Bonaventure Cleveland State continues its busy early season stretch away from home when the Vikings play at St. Bonaventure on Saturday (Dec. 15) for a 2:00 p.m. contest. ItwillbetheseventhtimeCSUplaysawayfromhomeinthefirst10 games of the season. The Vikings enter the week at 6-3 overall after an 80-63 setback at No. 25 N.C. State on Saturday (Dec. 8). The Vikings used seven points from Charlie Lee to take a quick 11-8 lead, but a 12-2 Wolfpack run allowed them to take a 20-13 lead that they did not give up the rest of the game. Lee led the Vikings with 15 points, while Devon Long just missed hisfirstdouble-double,finishingwith12pointsandnine rebounds.Tim Kamczyc added 10 points. Lee leads the team with 15.7 points per game, while Kamczyc is averaging 11.1. The game at St. Bonaventure will be head coach Gary Waters’ sec-ond chance at winning his 300th career game.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL The Vikings will hit the road for the final time in 2012, traveling to Nashville, Tenn. to face Tennes-see State on Sunday, December 16 at 3:00 p.m. EST. Cleveland State enters the week on a three-game win streak, and is 4-4 on the young season. CSU defeated Miami (Ohio), 87-75, on Satur-day (Dec. 8), behind hot shooting and a triple-double from Shalonda Winton. Winton, who tallied 29 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists, became the fourth Viking all-time to record a triple-double and the first since the 2002-03 season. After the first four weeks of the season CSU ranks second in the league in field goal percentage (.414), scoring offense (69.2) and steals (10.3). Individually, Winton leads the league averaging 24.1 points per game and ranks second in rebounding (11.0), assists (4.8) and steals (3.0), while Kiersten Green is third in free throw percentage (.815) and steals (2.6).

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING CSU will be out of competition until the New Year when the Vikings head to the Grand Cayman Is-lands for the Green Turtle Invitational on Jan. 5. CSU is coming off an impressive 4-0 sweep at the Cleveland College Dual Meet Invitational on Dec. 4, defeating Canisius, Case Western, John Carroll, and Notre Dame (Ohio). Freshman Jodi Turk shined for the Vikings, pick-ing up two wins, both by more than 10 seconds. Turk won the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.49) by 12 seconds, be-fore then winning the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:32.03) by 24 seconds. Senior Alice Sommerville also swam strong for the Vikings, winning the 50-yard freestyle (23.66), and 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.63), while also being part of a winning relay, the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.94).

Mark De Swardt led the way for CSU, winning all three events he competed in. The senior took home a dominating win by 18 seconds in the 1,000-yard free-style (9:45.22), while also winning the 200 IM (1:55.84) and 500-yard freestyle (4:41.40). Junior Al Shillito also went three for three for CSU with wins in the 100 freestyle (46.44), 200 free-style (1:41.81), and 200-yard medley relay (1:32.71).

WRESTLING The Vikings will be home this week for the first time this season, as the squad will host the CSU Open this Saturday (Dec. 15) at 10:00 a.m. in Woodling Gym. CSU has been off from competition since the end of November when they traveled to Eastern Michigan, falling 21-15. Despite the tough loss, four Vikings were able to pick up wins, led by a pin for redshirt freshman Mi-chael Carlone at the 4:35 mark at 133 pounds. Nick Flanney (141 lb.), Mike Mencini (149 lb.), and Xavier Dye (174 lb.) also all picked up wins by decision.

laSt Week Winton became just the fourth player in program history to record a triple-double, finishing with 29 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in an 87-75 win over Miami (OH) on Saturday. Winton’s triple-double was the first by a CSU player since the 2002-03 season and she became just the second player in the nation to record one this season. Winton leads the Horizon League in scoring (24.1) and is second in rebounding (11.0).
