Softball HaS buSy Week aHead Cleveland State continues its homestand with doubleheaders against Kent State on Tuesday (April 10) and St. Francis (Pa.) on Thursday (April 12). Both contests start at 3:00 p.m. The Vikings then hit the road for three games at Loyola, playing a twinbill at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (April 14) and a single game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday (April 15). The Vikings split their four games last week, starting the week with a non-league loss to Niagara and dropping the first game to Wright State on Friday (April 6) before sweeping Saturday’s (April 7) doubleheader to take the series. Sophomore standout Sara Shields was the winning pitcher in both victories and got help from battery mate Salena Kauffman who blast-ed the first two home runs of her career in the 6-2 win in game two. The first shot was a grand slam to left field and she later belted a solo homer to right field to account for the first two extra base hits of her career. Shields, who went the distance in the 2-1 victory in game one on Saturday, started three of the four games in the circle and was 2-1 with an ERA of 3.59 and an impressive 8:1 strikeout to walk ratio.
