Preface

Purpose of the document

The purpose of this document is to describe the use of the VigiPrint V1.x software.

It is intended for the operator who will use it, but also for the department head, the LECTRAtraining and technical personnel.

The VigiPrint software is used to input and manage plotting orders for a group of LECTRA plottersand small laser cutters linked by an Ethernet network, the plots being completed in background task.

During the installation, the software is configured to process either one or several file types,depending on their format (files created by Lectra Apparel, Upholstery, Footwear or Industry CADsoftware, or cutfiles created by non Lectra CAD.

Three access modules to the software are offered to the customer, which he can choose according tothe work he has to carry out :

- The Production Module is used to input plotting orders, send them with default parameters to aplotter selected on the network, to visualize the work in progress on the various plotters or cuttersof the network, and to modify the plotting orders sent by the user.

- The Design Department Module offers the same functions as the Production Module, added toparameterizing possibilities of the plotting orders.

- The Administration Module is used to set the default parameters on the various plotters orcutters of the network, visualize and modify all plotting orders which have been sent, and haveaccess to the manual controls of the plotters and cutters.

Each of these modules can be installed depending on the user's organization, on one or several workstations, connected to the same network as the plotters and cutters.

The plotters and cutters to which the batches to be plotted are sent, must be identified and gatheredin “groups of plotters” by means of the Plotter-Manager and Spooler-Manager utilities. Refer to thedocumentation “Administrator Utilities” - code 521230 (edition 5).

How to use this document

The way of using or interpreting the various elements displayed in the windows of the software(buttons, menus, messages, …) is described in the document “Lectra Systèmes graphic environment -User's Guide” - code 521237.

This document contains three chapters which correspond each to an access module of the software :- Chapter 1 Production Module- Chapter 2 Design Department Module- Chapter 3 Administration Module

The user of a module can refer directly to the relevant chapter. When a function is common to severalmodules, the reader should refer to the corresponding paragraph in the chapter dealing withanother access module.

In each chapter, the description of the operating is built up in the same way :

The first paragraph gathers general points intended to facilitate the understanding of theinformation given and the necessary technical elements to know how to operate the software.

The second paragraph presents the main screen of the module and the various functions accessible.

The following paragraphs describe the use of the specific functions to each module.

The first appendix describes the function used to determine the plotting format concerning theinformation inside the BI’s.The next appendices describe the particularities of the software regard the Apparel configurationfor which the documentation has been written :- Appendix 2 plotting cutfiles- Appendix 3 plotting Upholstery files- Appendix 4 plotting Footwear- Appendix 5 plotting Industry (in the next edition)

1 - Presentation

1.1 General description

The VigiPrint software is used to input and manage plotting batches intended for a group of plotters,printers and small Lectra laser cutters linked to the station by an Ethernet network.These plottings are carried out as background task.

The VigiPrint software is configurable, generally at installation, to process one or several file typesaccording to their format :

- files created by Apparel, Upholstery, Footwear or Industry Lectra CAD software. For apparel(or upholstery) VigiPrint can process files generated by the LS Model and Modaris applications(or LS Form and Formaris).

- cutfiles created by non-Lectra CAD

The VigiPrint software proposes two use levels :

- The User level for a current use : input batches, launch the plotting, follow-up the plotting…- The Master level also enables management of the work and configuration parameters, and gives

access to the plotter control.

1.2 Hardware and software configuration

This module of the VigiPrint software can be operated on a PC type work station, with a Linuxoperating system, derived from UNIX for the PC,

This station integrates the OpenPartner graphic desk. (See relevant documentation contained in theCustomers Manual Operating System & Utilities - Code 521252).

1.3 Software installation

The VigiPrint package should be installed with the P-Manager utility according to the proceduredescribed in the document : Administrator Utilities - code 521230.

When launching VigiPrint for the first time on the work station, a default configuration file iscreated automatically. This TRAPARAM file can be modified later.(see § 5.9).

1.4 Launching the software

Once the installation, configuration and starting-up procedures of the environment have beencompleted (refer to the document Administrator Utilities - Code 521230), this software is presentsfrom the OpenPartner graphic desk.

In the applications zone, double-click on the icon representing VigiPrint : .

During the software loading time, an “Information” dialogue box is displayed (see figure 4), thenthe main screen of VigiPrint is displayed (see figure 3).

1.5 Quitting the software

To quit the software, use the Quit button in the bottom left corner of the main screen.

- Click on Quit : the software proposes a “Confirmation” dialogue box with a YESbutton and a NO button.

It is also possible to quit the software by using the Quit function (^X) available in the Filepull-down menu of the work zone (see figure 8)☞

2 - Operating principles

The various work stations and the plotting or cutting peripherals are linked by an Ethernet network.

The I-Manager utility, from the applications group “Administrator Utilities” is used to declare theperipherals acknowledged by each station on the network. (refer to the document AdministratorUtilities - Code 521230)

In the example below, the station on which VigiPrint has been installed only acknowledgesPlotter 1 and Laser cutter 1. These two only will appear in the list of plotters which can be selected(see § 4.1) From this station it is only possible to plot on one of these two peripherals.

The VigiPrint software can plot files from various environments : Apparel, Upholstery, Footwear,Industry or non-Lectra CAD.

For apparel (and upholstery) VigiPrint can process files whose shapes are generated by LS Model( LS Form) only , Modaris (Formaris) only or either one of them.

These various possibilities are determined by the “input formats” available for VigiPrint.Generally they are chosen when installing the software, but they can be modified later at Masterlevel. (see § 5.2)

The main use of VigiPrint consists in inputting a file or a list of files to be plotted. Once sent to theplotter, the file(s) become a “batch”. The operations corresponding to this task are described inchapter 4.

When one or several “batches” has been sent to the plotter, the operator can visualise, modify,…these batches. These follow-up operations are described in chapter 7.

To define or carry out a plot, a certain number of information called “parameters” are requested. Thisinformation is associated to a plotter and stored in a TRAPARAM file. This file, createdautomatically at the first use, contains default values. The operator can define his own values, keepthem for another work session, save them in the TRAPARAM file… These functions are described inchapter 5.

Finally, the operator may intervene directly on the plotter from the work station, to switch it on oroff, reset to zero, access the maintenance mode. These operations are described in chapter 6.

This function enables the user to consult the list of batches in waiting line, and modify thebatches he has sent (see § 7.1)

Follow-up printout

This function is used to print reports on the task carried out by each plotter , or on the errorsencountered (se § 7.3)

3.1.8 Progress indicator

The zone displays the status of the plotter in progress on the

selected plotter.

3.2 Input grid

The input grid is the zone used to input or modify the files to be plotted and their plottingattributes.

The input grid is automatically configured according to the input format chosen (see § 5.2) and thework mode (see § 3.1.4)

Generally, the input grid contains 2 zones :

- the first zone is used to input the file name to be plotted.If the default values displayed in the input grid are correct, it is the only zone to be filled in.(see § 4.2)

- the second zone is used to define the plotting attributes of the file : the way the plotting must becarried out, name and location of the associated work files (parameters, reference texts, …)(see § 4.3)

The button Add placed under the input grid is used to add the plot which has beendefined onto a line of the input zone.

It is replaced by the button Modify in case of a modification.

4 - Inputting the file batches to be plotted

To enter the input mode, activate one of the functions , , or

.

The user selects first the plotter on which he wants to launch the plotting(s).

Then he modifies if required the description of the plotting attributes in the input grid (see figure6). He inputs the name of the file to be plotted in the input zone (mark 1) then validates by clicking

on button Add or striking Return .

The task described in the input grid is displayed on a line in the list of files of the work zone (seefigure 8 mark 3) .

If these lines are present in the work zone, it is also possible to modify certain attributes directlywithout using the input grid.

Several functions can be used by the operator to modify the lines before making up the batch to beplotted.

By clicking on , the user sends the batch he has made up to the waiting list of the selectedplotter.

4.1 Selecting a plotter

This function is used to select the plotter on which the batches must be plotted.

• By default, the name of the last plotter selected is displayed in an input zone of the main screen(see § 3.1.3).

• Double-click on this input zone to display a dialogue box “Selecting a plotter” (see figure 10) :To select a plotter, choose a name from the list then close the selector with button

OK .

A double-click on a name selects it and closes the selector simultaneously.

• The name of the selected plotter is displayed in the main screen.

• When selecting a plotter name, the locations of files by default associated to this plotter aredisplayed automatically in the input grid. The default values associated to this plotter areautomatically allocated to the library, text, geometry and operating parameters.

4.2 Adding a line

---------------------------------DESCRIPTION OF THE FUNCTION---------------------------------

This function is used to add a line in the list of files to be plotted by indicating a file name and itsassociated plotting attributes.

------------------------------------ACTIVATING THE FUNCTION -----------------------------------

• When no line is selected in the list, the input zone for the file name in the grid is empty (mark 1on figure 6) : the grid is in “line addition” mode.

• Modify and complete if required the plotting attributes indicated in the input grid (see § 4.3).

• Input the name of a file to be plotted in the input zone (see § 4.3).

• Validate the line addition by clicking on Add or by striking Return .

• A line is added at the end of the list (mark 3 of figure 8), corresponding to the work which hadbeen described in the grid.

• The grid is ready for another line addition :- the name of the file to be plotted is erased in the input zone,- the plotting attributes are not modified, which makes it possible to input several lines

in a row with the same parameters.

• When accessing the input, the parameters of the plotting attributes in the input grid are defaultparameters : to modify them see chapter 5.

• § 4.3 explains the purpose of the various plotting attributes and how to modify their value.

• The file name input zone (mark 1 of figure 6) does not operate in the same way as the other input

zones of the grid : when it is selected, activating Return is equivalent to Add ,to enable a quick input on the keyboard of several file names.

For all other input zones (values of the plotting attributes), activating Return selects thenext input zone.

• A double-click in the file name zone gives access to the selector, which allows to select severalfiles simultaneously to add them in the list .

• The use of the file selector is described in the document “Lectra Systèmes graphic environment”.

4.3 Description of the plotting attributes

4.3.1 Name and location of the file to be plotted

Input zone 1 is used to indicate the name of the file to be plotted, and input zone 2 thelocation of this file with the usual syntax (“/directory1/directory2 / ... /directoryN”).

To modify the contents of an input zone, the user can either :- Input directly the access path or the file name. (The suffix must never be input, it is

added automatically by the software according to the relevant file type.)- Double-click on the input zone, to open the selector.

♦ The push-button is used to copy the location of the markers (or garments) onto theline Lib Form.

Modification in the work list : The name of the file to be plotted is recalled under the

Marker , Garment or Part icon depending on the active input mode.Double-click on this name to display a file selector.

4.3.2 Particularities linked to the work configuration

Plotting parts :

- In case of parts generated by LS Model (IBA format), the user must indicate the Partfile and the Part library

- In case of parts generated by Modaris (MDL format), the user must fill in the Part nameand specify the Variant name and the Model file to which the part is linked, and theModel library.

- In case of a mixed configuration (IBA/MDL format) which allows to plot partsgenerated by LS Model and Modaris, a toggle button Piece file/Piece name allows toswitch from one case to another.

Plotting markers

- In case of parts generated by LS Model (PLA and IBA formats), the user must indicatethe Marker file , the Marker library and the Part library

- In case of parts generated by Modaris (PLX and MDL formats), the user must indicatethe Marker file , the Marker library and the Model library

- In case of a mixed configuration (PLA/PLX and IBA/MDL formats), the user mustindicate the Marker file , the Marker library and the Part library or the Model library

Plotting garments

- In case of parts generated by LS Model (PLA and IBA formats), the user must indicatethe Garment file, the Garment library and the Part library

- In case of parts generated by Modaris (PLX and MDL formats), the user can plot a Modelor a Variant. The choice is made in a pull-down menu. For a model he must fill in thename of the Model and the Model library, for a variant the Variant name, the name ofthe associated Model file and the Model library

- In case of a mixed configuration (PLA/PLX and IBA/MDL formats), the user can alsoplot garments. This function appears in the pull-down menu. The user must then fill inthe Garment name, the Garment library and the Piece library

Plotting splice marks

This case is identical to marker plotting.

To fill in these fields, refer to the mode described in paragraph 4.3.1 : direct input oropening the selector by a double click for file names.☞

4.3.3 Machine parameters file

This attribute is used to indicate the name and location of a machine parameters file.

At User level, this attribute cannot be input or modified : the default parameters of theplotter will be used (TRAPARAM file).At Master level, it is possible to input the name of a machine parameters file to be used,to define a default machine parameters file (see § 5.3.1) or to modify the machineparameters for the work session (see §5.7).

Modification in the input grid :The Machine file line is used to define the name and location of a machineparameters file.

4.3.4 Part, garment or marker parameter file

This attribute is used to indicate the name and location of a part, garment or markerparameters file (depending on the active input mode).

At Master level, it is possible to input the name of a parameter file to be used, or to defineit by default in the library parameters (see § 5.3) .

At User level, this attribute cannot be input :If no default file name has been defined, the default parameters of the TRAPARAM filewill be loaded. The operator can modify the value of some parameters (geometry, text andoperating) for the work session.(see § 5.4, § 5.5 and § 5.6).If a default file name has been defined at Master level, the values contained in this filewill be used, and the modifications made by the user in the geometry, text and operatingparameters will have no effect.

Modification in the input grid :

Param. file

The Param.file line is used to define the name and location of a parameter file. Theinput principle is identical to the one described for the name and location of the machineparameters file (see § 4.3.3)

For plotting parts, as soon as a parameter file is associated to a part to be plotted, it is automatically associated to all lines of the batch.☞

Modification in the work list : Under the Parameters icon is recalled the name ofthe parameters file. Double-click on this name to display a file selector.

4.3.5 Referenced text library

This attribute is used to indicate the name and location of the library where are stored thetext files, which contain the text to be plotted in a part. The name of the file is referencedin the part file with the CAD software.

Modification in the input grid :

A parameter line is used to define the name and location of the referenced text library.Input directly the access path or double-click on this line to display the selector.A default value can be allocated to this library in the library parameters (see § 5.3.1)

4.3.6 Info file

This attribute is used to indicate the name and location of the “Label” file to be used.This file defines the nature and presentation of the information which will plotted insideeach form according to the selected operating mode. These files (Part info , Marker info,Garment info) can only be created by a Master level user (see § 5.4.2).

Modification in the input grid :The Info file line is used to define the name and location of the label format file.The input principle is identical to the one described for the name and location of themachine parameters file (see § 4.3.3)A default value can be allocated to this library in the library parameters (see § 5.3.1)

4.3.7 Manufacturing order

For plotting markers or splice marks, this attribute is a characters string which can beplotted inside each part and/or in the heading.

Manufacturing order

A “Manufacturing order” input zone is used to input a character string of 6 alphanumericcharacters maximum, without spaces between.

This attribute cannot be visualised in the work list.

4.3.8 Size

For plotting parts, garments, variants or models, this attribute is used to indicate in whichsize the parts must be plotted, and if the various sizes requested must be presented as nests.

Modification in the input grid :A pull-down menu is used to choose the presentation with or without and an input zone isused to input the size names (see figure 11).

♦ The syntax is controlled when validating by the Add or Modify

button of the input grid.

• If the pull-down menu indicates “No nest” :The sizes plotted are the ones indicated by the input zone. For each part, they areplotted next to each other. If the input zone is empty, the basic size will be plotted.

• If the pull-down menu indicates “Complete nest” :For each part, all sizes are plotted and superimposed on the plot. The contents of theinput zone is not taken into account.

• If the pull-down menu indicates “Partial nest” :The sizes plotted are the ones indicated by the input zone. For each part, they aresuperimposed on the plot. If the input zone is empty, the sizes plotted are the smallestsize, the basic size, the average size and the largest size.

• If the pull-down menu indicates “Size serial” :For each part, all sizes are plotted next to each other. The contents of the input zone isnot taken into account.

This attribute cannot be visualised in the work list.

4.3.9 Conformation - Stature

For plotting parts, garments, variants or models, these two attributes are used to indicatein which conformation and which stature the parts must be plotted, or if a conformationnest or a stature nest must be plotted for each part.

Modification in the input grid :A pull-down menu is used to choose the presentation with or without and an input zone isused to input a conformation or stature name.

A conformation or stature name contains 4 alphanumeric characters maximum.

♦ The syntax is controlled when validating by the Add or Modify

button of the input grid.

To plot a part or a garment, only one type of nest can be requested : as soon as anoption “partial nest” or “complete nest” is displayed in one of the three pull-downmenus “Size”, “Conformation” or “Stature”, it is automatically deactivated on thetwo other menus.

4.3.10 Fabric type

For plotting garments, variants or models, this attribute allows to plot only the partsassociated to one or several fabric types. If no fabric type is indicated, all parts of thegarment will be plotted.

Modification in the input grid :

Fabric Type

An input zone is used to indicate up to 20 fabric types, separated by commas. A fabric typeis composed of 2 alphanumeric characters.

This attribute cannot be visualised in the work list.

4.3.11 Repeats

It is a number between 1 and et 99, indicating the number of plotting repeats to be obtainedfor the same file.

Modification in the input grid :

The repeat is indicated in the input zone associated to the Repeat icon.This value can be modified :- by inputting a new value,- By clicking on to increase by one unit the value indicated, or on to reduce

it by one unit.

Modification in the work list : The numeric value under the Repeats icon indicatesthe repeat. Double-click on this value to increase it by one unit.

4.3.12 180° rotation of a marker

When plotting markers or splice marks, this attribute is used to indicate that the file mustbe plotted with a 180° rotation (width turning).

Modification in the input grid : Activate or de-activate the Rotation button.

Modification in the work list : The sign “+” under the Rotation icon means that theattribute is activated. Double-click on this sign to make it disappear or appear.

4.3.13 Parts rotation

When plotting parts, garments, variants or models, this attribute is used to indicate arotation angle to be applied to the parts to be plotted.

Modification in the input grid :

The parts rotation is indicated in the input zone associated to the Rotation icon.This value can be modified :- by inputting a new value,- by clicking on to increase by one unit the value indicated, or on to reduce it

by one unit.

Modification in the work list : The numeric value under the Rotation icon indicatesthe clockwise rotation angle, expressed in degrees (0 by default). Double-click on thisvalue to increase it by one unit.

4.3.14 Symmetry on X - Symmetry on Y

When plotting parts, garments, variants or models, these attributes are used to indicatethat the parts must be plotted either with a symmetry on X or with a symmetry on Y.

Modification in the input grid : Activate or deactivate for a symmetry on X,

for a symmetry on Y.

When plotting markers, this attribute is used to indicate that the small pieces of themarker must be plotted before the large ones.The maximum surface of a small piece is 625 cm2.

Activate or deactivate the button Small pieces first .

4.3.16 Putting to scale

This attribute is used to indicate that, when plotting the file, the scale mentioned in the

Geometry parameters must be applied.

Modification in the input grid : Activate or deactivate the button Scale .

Visualisation in the work list : The sign “+” under the icon Scale means that theattribute is activated. Double-click on this sign to make it disappear or appear.

4.3.17 Alarm

When plotting markers or splice marks, this attribute is used to indicate that the plot willbe interrupted at the end of this marker and an alarm will indicate the pause.

You must then strike OK in the dialogue box displayed to restart plotting thenext markers.

4.4.1 Selecting one or several lines in the list

• Select the function Paste Selection or the keyboard shortcut ^V : the lines stored in memory areinserted in the list at the requested place.

small pieces first or putting to scale), its state changes at each double-click.- If it is a numeric value (repeat or part rotation), its value is increased by one unit at

each double-click. (If two lines indicate different values, they are increased by onevalue but remain different.)

- If it is a file or library name, a file selector is opened, to designate a file or a library ofthe same type.

5 - Plotting parameters

5.1 General information on the parameters

The plotting parameter functions are used to adapt the operating of the VigiPrint software to theneeds of each user :

- A group of 6 buttons (see figure 13, mark 1) gives access to the various parameters. Theseparameters are grouped in 6 families :

• The input formats are used to select the file types that the user will plot ,

according to his realm of activity (Apparel, Upholstery, Footwear, Industry…)

• The library parameters are used to indicate the default location and if required adefault name, for each file type used by the software.

• The text parameters

define the nature and size of the inscriptions added to theplottings.

• The geometry parameters

define the geometry of the plotted parts (shape ofnotches or drillings, scale, plain or dotted line, etc…).

• The operating parameters define the presentation of the plotting (gap betweenparts, garments or markers, deletion of common lines, plotting a frame, ...).

• The machine parameters define the behaviour of the plotter (speeds and

acceleration values, programming the paper advances…)There are specific text, geometry and operating parameters for each plotting mode :part, garment and marker.☞

- A group of 2 buttons (see figure 13, mark 2) is used to save or read these parameters in theconfiguration files.

- A button ( see figure 13, mark 3) Is used to save the parameters values in the defaultconfiguration file of the plotter (TRAPARAM file).

5.1.1 Default values of the parameters

For each plotter, default values for all parameters are saved in a configuration file calledTRAPARAM. When launching the VigiPrint software, these values are displayed in al lparameter dialogue boxes, and they are the active values.

5.1.2 Current values

The user can modify certain parameter values according to his user's level. These valuesbecome the current values, they will be used for plotting operations, as long as the user doesnot modify them or quits VigiPrint.

5.1.3 Parameter files

The user can save in configuration files or parameter files, sets of values corresponding tospecific values : they can be specific to a user, a work mode, a marker type, a plotter …Then the user just needs to call up these parameter files to configure the softwareautomatically with current values saved in these files.(see § 5.8)If the user wants that the current values become the default values, he must save them inthe TRAPARAM file with a save function. (see § 5.9)

5.1.4 Values used for plotting

If no parameter file is called up and if no parameter value has been modified, the defaultvalues contained in the TRAPARAM file will be used.

If no parameter file is called up , but some parameter values have been modified, thesecurrent values will be used.

If a parameter file is called up , the current values contained in this file will be used.

5.1.5 Consultation and modification

Activating one of the parameter buttons displays a dialogue box, containing the currentvalues of the parameters of the corresponding family :

To modify the parameter values :

• Click on the corresponding button to display the dialogue box of this parameter family.

• Use the button or the input zone corresponding to the parameter to be modified, asexplained in paragraphs 5.2 to 5.7 depending on the parameter family.

• Click on OK to close the dialogue box and return to the main screen.

To close the dialogue box without saving the modifications, or after a simple

consultation, use the button Abort .

Reminder

So that the modified values become the default values for the next use, they must besaved in the TRAPARAM file (see § 5.9).

For files coming from a Lectra CAD (Apparel, Upholstery, Footwear or Industry), twoinput zones are used to input the default suffix of the markers and/or parts to be cut.

Use the pull-down menus for the input.

Use the button at the right of the input zone to choose a suffix in upper case or

lower case.

The chosen value is used by the software to determine the filter proposed by the fileselector when the user selects a marker or a part.

When the format MDL (or IBA/MDL) has been selected, the parameters designed to usethe Modaris files are proposed in the Library and Geometry parameters.In this case, an input zone appears in the “Input selector” to indicate the name of themachine on which operates the model server to be used. (It is an utility program whichenables the application software to read data in model files created with Modaris).

The name must be input by the user (8 characters maximum).

When the values have been selected, validate with .

The input selector closes and the input grid is configured automatically, and takes the chosen workmode into account (see § 3.1.4)

Do not forget to save the TRAPARAM file if you want that VigiPrint is opened in thisconfiguration the next time.☞

The dimension used in priority is the one indicated in the “Nominal size” inputzone, except if the software checks out that there is not enough space. In thiscase, the size can be reduced up to the size indicated in the “Minimum size” inputzone.

5.8 Using parameter files

It is used to save customised values in the parameter files. These parameter files can be associatedby default to the input grid (see § 5.3.1).

5.8.1 Writing parameter files

The software enables using 5 types of parameter files :

- The User parameters files contain the values defined in the library parameters and inthe text, geometry and operating parameters of each work mode (inputting parts,markers, garments, splice marks).

- The Part geometry files contain values to be applied to the text, geometry andoperating parameters for part plotting.

- The Garment geometry files contain values to be applied to the text, geometry andoperating parameters for garment plotting.

- The Marker geometry files contain values to be applied to the text, geometry andoperating parameters for marker plotting.

- The Machine parameters files contain specific parameters for a plotter.

To create a parameter file :

• Modify the parameter values (Libraries, then for each input mode Text, Geometry andOperating), so that they correspond to the values to be saved.

• Return to the main menu and click on . The following dialogue box is displayed :

• In the main menu, click on : the dialogue box shown on figure 28 is displayed. It is

called then “Reading parameter files”.

• Click on the push button corresponding to the requested file type : the corresponding fileselector is displayed.

• Use the file selector to designate the file to be used.

• To validate the selection, activate OK in the file selector .

The parameter values contained in the designated file become the current values used bythe software, and the user can query or modify these values with the access function toparameters (Libraries, Text, Geometry and Operating).

5.9 Saving the default values of a plotter

This function is accessible at Master level only.☞

The Save function of the main screen is used to save in a TRAPARAM configuration file theparameter values defined by the user of the Administration Module. These values are saved in theTRAPARAM file which is associated to the plotter whose name is displayed in the main screen.they include :

- The text, geometry and operating parameters for each input mode, accessible by the functions

Text , Geometry and Operating in the main screen.

- The library parameters, accessible by the Libraries function in the main screen.

- The machine parameters, accessible by the Machine function in the main screen.

- The positions of the “Plotting zero” point and “Plotting maximum” point defined by the functions

Zero and Maximum of the “Machine Control” dialogue box.

♦ As long as the Save function has not been activated, no modification made in a parameterdialogue box is taken into account by the plotter.

6 - Plotter control

6.1 Plotter On/Off

The button is used to switch the plotter on or off : is becomes

When a plotter is off line, it is possible to send batches to be plotted but they will only be plottedwhen the plotter is switched on line.

Switching a plotter off line gives access to the Reset to zero and Machine control functions describedin the next paragraphs.

If a plotter is switched off line during a plotting, it will be interrupted when the current batchis finished.☞

To switch the plotter on line again, click on button which becomes .

6.2 Plotter reset to zero

With plotter switched off, use button to reset the plotter to zero

There are 3 possible cases :

• If the reset to zero is requested after switching the plotter on or after a microplotter reset :The plotter carriage searches the table zero at low speed, and reads the dimensions of theplotting zone.This operation is carried out automatically when exiting from the “Machine control” function, ifno reset to zero has been controlled since the machine was switched on, a microplotter reset or alimit stop.

• If the reset to zero is requested when a limit stop is met :The plotter carriages searches the table zero, at low speed.

• In all other cases :The "Reset to zero" function moves the carriage back to table zero position, at high speed(because this position is known).

The E 33 and FlyPen plotters never read the plotting table dimensions.☞

6.3 Machine control

☞ This function is accessible at Master level only.

The Machine control function gives access to a dialogue box, gathering all functions enabling“manual” intervention on the plotter (unlike the automatic operating mode which executes theplottings described in the batches sent in waiting line).

Saving a plotting zero is used to define the position where plotting begins on the Yaxis. Generally, this position is always the same, and corresponds to the machinezero. However, in some cases it is necessary to modify it, particularly when plottingis carried out on a narrow paper placed in the middle of the plotter.

Saving a plotting maximum is used to define the maximum plotting dimensionsallowed on the Y axis. In practice, this position corresponds to the paper width.

♦ These buttons are only accessible when the plotter is deactivated.

To modify the position of the plotting zero (or maximum) :

- Set the plotter off line.

- Move the pen (or the laser cutting head) on the zero point (or maximum point)requested by means of the manual controls available on the plotter, or in the“Machine controls” dialogue box.

- Click on Zero (or Maximum ).

- A dialogue box requests validation of the save : click on Yes .

- The new zero point (or maximum point) is saved.

- Set the plotter on line.

- Click on OK to close the “Machine control” dialogue box.

- The save in the TRAPARAM is automatic when quitting.

7.1 Manipulating the batches

The push-button in the main screen gives access to the List of batches sent to the selectedplotter, for example to query them, delete them, inhibit them, or pass a batch in priority. At Masterlevel it is also possible to modify the contents of the batches sent to waiting line.

Pressing this push-button configures VigiPrint in input mode. The input grid disappears (see

figure 30) and it can be displayed again by clicking on (for batch modification see § 7.1.4)

Each line of the list represents a batch to be plotted or, when a batch is “open”, a file to be plottedcontained in this batch.

7.1.2 Modifying the state of a batch

This function is used to inhibit or re-activate one or several batches.

When a user sends a batch to a waiting list, its state becomes “to do”. As soon as a batch“to do” is sent to a plotter, it is copied in a work directory of the plotting spooler, and its statebecomes “started”. Once this plotting is finished, the spooler deletes the corresponding linefrom the waiting list. The “inhibited” state is applied deliberately by a user to modify abatch or postpone its plotting.

Reactivating might be useful when a plotting has been aborted after an error : in this case, thebatch remains “started” in the waiting line and it is not deleted by the plotting spooler. If a userreactivates it, its state becomes “to do” again and can be modified or plotted like the otherbatches in the list.

This function is used to modify the batches displayed in a waiting list, by using the same functionsas for modifying lines in the work list, when inputting a batch.The modifications must be saved to be taken into account effectively (see § 7.1.5). This save ispossible at Master level only.

• Select then inhibit the batches to be modified.

• Like for inputting a batch, the user has three means of modifying the contents of a batch :

- by using the Erase Selection , Copy Selection , Cut Selection , Paste Selection functionsof the Edition menu : see § 4.4.

♦ Lines can be copied in a batch, then pasted in another batch.

♦ Lines can be copied in a non-inhibited batch.

- by using the input grid to add or modify lines : see § 4.2 and 4.3.

♦ Use button to display or close the input grid.

♦ When batch description lines only have been selected, the button

Add is available in the bottom of the input grid.

♦ It is not necessary to open a batch to add a line.

♦ When one or several file description lines are selected, the button

Modify is available. If several lines are selected, the button isabsent when the modification is impossible : if the lines are not all ininhibited batches, or if they don't all correspond to the same file type.

This function is used to read the contents of a batch :- to visualize modifications made by other users,- or, in case of a batch with the sign “*”, to display the batch in its initial state and not

7.2 Plotting interruption and restart

7.2.1 Interruptions requested by the operator

The user can interrupt the plotting in two ways.

- The first solution consists in suppressing the current batch (see § 7.1.3).This stops the plotting immediately at the end of the current part. The next parts in the file orthe next files which make up a batch will not be plotted, and the batch disappears from the list.

- The second solution consists in inhibiting the current batch (see § 7.1.2)When the operator inhibits a batch while it is plotted, a message proposes an immediate stop ora stop at the end of the current file.

• In the first case, the plotting stops at the end of the current part, but the file which isnot completely plotted remains in the list of files making up the batch, it can bereactivated later. The other files in the batch, which have not been plotted, alsoremain in the list.

• In the second case, the plotting stops at the end of the current file, and this filedisappears from the batch.

7.2.2 Interruption after an error

When an error occurs during the plotting, it is displayed in a dialogue box, indicating the errornumber and name. This dialogue box appears on the work station which pilots the plotter :

7.3 Time management

☞ This function is accessible at Master level only.

The “Time Management” is a software function, which can be used to print reports containinginformation on the work carried out by each plotter : follow-up of plottings and of errors.

- For each plotter stated on the network, the data concerning the plottings made are automaticallysaved in a “plotting follow-up” file after each batch is completed.

- For each of these plotters, the errors met during plotting are automatically saved in a “errorsfollow-up” file.

♦ Only the data concerning marker plotting are saved in the follow-up files.

7.3.1 Activating the time management

The user can choose to activate or deactivate this function. When it is deactivated , thefollow-up files are not created.

To activate the function, use the parameter Generation of time management, accessible inthe Text parameters dialogue box (see figure 16).

When the Time Management button is activated (displayed as a pressed-in key), thefollow-up files are created automatically by the software.

7.3.2 Identification of the follow-up files

A “plotting” and an “error” file are created automatically daily for each plotter, in adirectory chosen by the user.

In the Library parameters dialogue box, the user indicates the storage directory of the“plotting management” files (Plotting parameter line) and the storage directory of the“errors management” files (Errors parameter line). (see figure 15).The “plotting” and “errors ” files can be stored in the same directory.

In the directories chosen by the user, the software creates automatically as many sub-directories as there are plotters stated on the network. These sub-directories have thesame names as the plotters.

In each sub-directory having the name of a plotter, the software creates automatically thefollow-up files :

ETATDDMM.TRV for plotting follow-upETATDDMM.ERR for errors follow-upwhere DDMM is the date managed by the operating system,with DD = date of the day and MM = month n° (ex 0512 for December 5th).

The “plotting follow-up” file is created as soon as a plotting is completed by a plotter. Thisfile will be completed automatically for the next plottings made by the same plotter onthe same day.

The “errors follow-up” file is created as soon as an error is met by a plotter. If other errorsoccur on the same plotter on the same day, the file will be completed automatically.

Appendix 1Format of part info

1 - Presentation of the dialogue box

The function is used to create, modify and save “Part Info” format files. Its activation displaysthe "Part Info” dialogue box shown in figure A1.1.

In this dialogue box, a work zone enables the user to visualize the model of the text he wants to plotinside each part. To do this, he defines in this zone a certain number of fields , and also :- the relative position of the fields in relation to each other (*),- the text,- the size of characters used.

(*) The position of the text inside the part is calculated automatically by the software, accordingto the geometry of each part.

There are two types of fields depending on the way their contents is defined :- Fixed field : The contents is input on the keyboard, it is fixed whatever the part plotted (for

example a title).- Variable field : The contents, chosen from a list of available information, will be issued from one

of the data files (part, garment, marker file or batch of files to be plotted).

For each information used in a variable field, the software defines the printing format , i.e. theprocessing of the characters string issued from the file.

A field can consist in the juxtaposition of several components. In this case, each component is definedby a fixed or variable contents.

5 Work zone

This zone is used to visualize the text fields to be plotted.

These are represented with a frame whose dimensions correspond to the real dimensions ofthe field on the plot. The text inscribed inside the frame corresponds to the contents of thefield. As the character font used for the display is not the same as the one used by theplotter, the text does not fill the whole frame.

♦ The software does not take into account the position of the fields in relation to the workzone, but the relative position of the fields in relation to each other.

The colour used to represent a field depends on its type :

- black : fixed field

- blue : variable field where at least one component is variable

- red : selected field, on which the operator is working.

6 Field contents and format input zone

In the case of a fixed field, this zone is used to define or modify the contents of a field or ofthe components of the selected field : see § 2.1.2.1.

In the case of a variable field, this zone is used to select the format of the informationchosen : see § 2.1.2.3 and 2.1.2.4.

7 Selection buttons of a component inside a field

When the selected field is made up of several components, a button is available in this zonefor each component. It enables to select a component and visualize its contents : see § 2.1.1.4.

8 Information selection zone

This list contains all information the user may associate to a variable field : see § 2.1.1.2.

When the software is configured to plot cut files, the information that the user can selectcomes from a cutfile. They are found under the heading “File field 1”, “File field 2”, ...,“File field 20”.

9 Field manipulation and characters size selection buttons :

The button has regained the aspect of a released key.• Click in the field contents input zone and key in a string of characters (stage 4 -figure A1.2).• Validate by <Return> or by clicking in an inactive zone of the screen.• The new field appears in the work zone : it is displayed in red because it is selected. empty zone of the work zone to unselect it : then it is displayed in black.

customization window will be used as soon as this information will be inserted in afield.

- If it is deactivated (displayed as a released key), the characters size of thecustomization window is not used : when inserting this information in a field, thecharacters size which is active on the main screen will be used.

• Click on OK : the contents of the dialogue box is saved automatically.

2.4.2 Creation of an automatic title

3.2.1 Parameters principle

Each module composing the geometry of parts to be cut is represented by a push-button(mark 1) :- When the button is activated, the corresponding modules are processed by the software.

The tool and shape are defined by the parameters at the right of the button (mark 2and 3).

- When the button is deactivated, the corresponding modules are not processed by thesoftware, but the parameters can be pre-set for a later use.

The first parameter on the right of the button (mark 2) indicates the tool used for a module.It is a toggle button : click on the button to switch to another tool. The tools proposeddepend both on the machine piloted by the software and on the nature of the module to beprocessed.

The following parameters (mark 3) define the way the tool is being used : their number andnature depend both on the selected tool and on the nature of the module to be processed.They are :- toggle buttons with several values and whose icon changes at each click ,- or input zones ,- or toggle buttons which can be activated or deactivated.Their use is described in the following paragraphs.

Batch files

The work lists prepared with the Monitor software are files presented under the form :• <NomFic>.WIB for part file batches• <NomFic>.WVT for garment file batches• <NomFic>.WPL for marker file batches

Parameter files

When inputting a batch of files to be plotted, the user can associate parameter files to this plotting.Their form is always :• <NomFic>.PIB for part parameter files• <NomFic>.PVT for garment parameter files• <NomFic>.PPL for marker parameter files• <NomFic>.MAC for machine parameter files

The part, garment and marker parameter files can only be created by a Design Module orAdministration Module user. The machine parameter files can only be created by an AdministrationModule user.

Format files

To plot a heading, a cartouche or information inside the parts (BI info), the user must indicate thename of a file containing the format to be used. These files can only be created by a Master level user.They are presented under the form :• <NomFic>.LAB for Label files• <NomFic>.ENT for heading format files• <NomFic>.CRT for cartouche format files

Follow-up files

The software can create automatically follow-up files, that the user can then printout. They arepresented under the form :• ETATDDMM.TRV for plotting follow-up files• ETATDDMM.ERR for error follow-up files
