In der Ausstellung „organiche/geometriche“ widmet sich die in Berlin lebende italienische Künstlerin Valentina Bardazzi (*1974) dem Widerspiel von Organischem und Geometrischem. Die Beschäftigung mit diesen beiden ästhetischen Prinzipien liegt im Interesse der Künstlerin begründet, Gesetze und Regeln des Schönen zu erkunden und zu befragen.

Hervorgetreten ist Valentina Bardazzi mit ihren Arbeiten, die den pathologisch verfassten Körper als Austragungsort von Schönheit(snormen) im Fokus hatten. Stichwortgeber waren die medizinisch-pathologischen Körperdarstellun-gen aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Sie nutzte die wissenschaftli-chen Zeichnungen und Photographien aus den Lehrbüch-ern als Vorlagen. Die Detailgenauigkeit der Zeichnungen, die Neigung zum Grotesken und Abstoßendem sowie das ästhetisch Grenzüberschreitende der bizarren und mon-strösen Körpererscheinungen bewegte die Künstlerin zu Repräsentationen anderer Schönheit. Die Bildkultur und ihre Darstellungsweisen griff Valentina Bardazzi auf, um in einer Serie von Körpern-Bildern das Paradox der Hässli-chkeit zu veranschaulichen.

Die Auseinandersetzung mit Vorstellungen, Definitionen und Bildern vom Schönen ist weiterhin ein Anliegen der Künstlerin. Die bereits im wissenschaftlichen Blick an-gelegte Praktik des Detaillierens (Trennen, Abtrennen, Heraustrennen, Auftrennen) ist für sie maßgeblich: Akri-bisch überträgt sie zuerst Motive auf Blätter, um sie dann zu zerreißen, im nächsten Schritt werden die Teile auf den

Bildträger geklebt oder übertragen und zu biomorph-extravaganten Körperarabesken arrangiert. Ornamentale Teilstücke, religiöse Motive und Muster aus anderen Kon-texten werden dabei in einer Art Einlegearbeit hineinmon-tiert, geschichtet oder raffiniert in das Sujet eingefaltet. Auf diese Weise treibt sie das Formspiel bis zum Äußersten und befragt Grenzen und Konturen einer Figur oder einer Form auf ihre Instabilität. Ihre Körperkonglomerate sind gezielte Verletzungen von etablierten Mustern und Regeln. Maß, Schönheit und Harmonie werden dabei nicht preisgege-ben, sondern artikulieren sich als Suchbewegung in der klassisch orientierten Mal- und Zeichentechnik sowie der Komposition.

In Bardazzis neueren Arbeiten öffnet sich ihre Arbeitsweise vielfältigen Horizonten. Anspielungsreiche Bildmotive bilden ein visuelles Geflecht, minimale Anklänge an das Informelle, „Bad Painting“ und „Arte Povera“ schreiben sich in das Bildfeld ein und erzeugen eine Atmosphäre des Un-reinen, sinnlich Taktilen. Anthropometrische Visualisierun-gen, Diagramme, Tabellen, technoide Lineaturen bilden Raster für organische, florale oder streng ornamentale Wucherungen oder Fügungen. Das Prinzip des Details und die Technik der Collage ist auch hier das zugrunde lieg-ende Organisationsprinzip. Die sonst strenge Komposition der früheren Bilder, die Konzentration auf das Figurale, wird teilweise aufgegeben zugunsten einer auf Analogie beruhenden visuellen Anordnung.

In the exhibition “organiche/geometriche”, the Italian artist living in Berlin Valentina Bardazzi (*1974) has been occu-pying herself with the interplay between the organic and geometrical. The concern with both these aesthetic princi-ples is apparent in how the artist inquires and interrogates the laws and rules of the beautiful.

Valentina Bardazzi is presenting her works that are turning the light on pathologically constituted body as a venue of beauty (norms). The conversation was developed on med-ical-pathological body portrayals in the 19th century. She used scholarly scientific drawings and photographs from textbooks as models. The detail specificity of the drawings, the tendency to the grotesque and repellent, the crossing of aesthetic boundaries of the bizarre and monstrous body forms has motivated the artist toward a representation of the other beauty. The image culture and its forms of ex-pression are what Bardazzi engages with, to show, in a se-ries of body-images, the paradox of ugliness.

The engagement with preconceptions, definitions and im-ages of the beautiful is a further interest of the artist. The practice of particularization (unlinking, separating, detach-ing, unraveling), which is located in the scientific gaze, is a central guiding principle: Acerbically she transfers her mo-tifs to sheets of paper just to be able to rip them apart. Next, the parts are glued on boards, or moved and arranged in biomorphically extravagant body arabesques. Ornamen-tal segments, religious motifs and patterns from different contexts are mounted, layered or ingeniously folded into

the subject. In this way, the artist is portraying the play of forms to its greatest degree and interrogates borders and contours of a figure or a form until it destabilizes. Her con-glomerations of body are targeted injuries of established patterns and rules. Proportion, beauty and harmony are not relinquished but rather articulated as a movement of searching in the classically oriented painting and drawing technique, and composition.

In Bardazzi’s newer works, her method opens a multiplicity of new possibilities. Image motifs rich in allusion portray a visual texture, minimal appeals to the Informalism, “Bad Painting” and “Arte povera” are inscribed in the visual field and create an atmosphere of the impure, sensual tactile directions. Anthropomorphic visualizations, diagrams, ta-bles, technical lines form the screen for organic, floral or strongly ornamental growths or proliferations. The princi-ple of the detail and the collage technique is the central organizational principle here as well. The otherwise strict composition of the earlier images, the figural interest, is partly abandoned in favor of an analogy of touching visual orderings.
