LET GO AND LET GOD

Many twelve-step programs use the phrase “Let go and let God.” In all their simplicity, these five words are the heart of today’s readings. For people who struggle with ad-dictive behavior, these words plainly remind us that we can’t manage, control, or manipulate certain areas of our lives. How many times can we look back in our lives and find evidence of some plan at work other than our own? These are the moments when, for whatever reasons, we let someone greater than ourselves work the plan. We proba-bly didn’t even recognize at the time that we were letting go of anything, but in retrospect, we see God’s hand and loving presence. It is our awareness of these moments that gives us the courage and initiative to let go again later on. It is this courage and initiative that are highlighted in today’s readings. We come to call it “faith.”

SECOND COLLECTION Next week, we will celebrate World Mission Sunday. Its theme this year is “Mercy Changes the World.” Pope Francis invites the entire Church to support the young mission dioces-es in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders serve some of the

poorest of the poor. Please keep the Missions in your prayers and be generous in next

week’s collection for the Society of the Propa-gation of the Faith.

FOOD BANK The Ephrata Food Bank is in need of PANTRY STAPLES for the month of October. For example, things like flour, sugar, oil, etc. Thank you for your donations! Please leave them in the vestibule the first two Sundays of the month.

Prayer Chain If you would like to place someone on the prayer chain, please call Grace Nelson at 754-4209 or email [email protected] or call the Parish Office with your intentions.

THANK YOU KERMES VOLUNTEERS! Thank you to all who volunteered time, talent or treasure to the Kermes this last weekend. It was a success!! We had a great turn out! Thank you to all who cooked, served, and sold food! Thank you to the decorators! Thank you to our MCs and

those who sold tickets for the raffle! Thank you to all who prayed that our event would be a success. Thank you to those who participated in any way.

God bless you.

ST. ROSE OF LIMA’S PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY DOOR

As part of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy, proclaimed by Pope Francis our parish has been invited to the Cathedral to participate at the 11:00 am (English) or 1:00 pm (Spanish) Masses on Sunday, Oc-tober 9th, our special Sunday to pass

through the “Holy Door” and receive in-dulgences announced by our Holy Father. The usual requirements of Reconciliation, Eucharist and prayers for the intentions of our Pope

must be met. Please plan to make this pilgrimage to St. Paul Cathedral in Yakima on

SUNDAY, October 9th, 2016. Indulgences may be gained once a day. A single celebration of Reconciliation suf-

fices for multiple indulgences. Contact the Parish Office if you would like more information.

COLLEGE MINISTRY When a young person leaves for college, it is some-

times a very dangerous time for their faith. The Cardi-nal Newman Society has provided a great resource for encouraging our young people away at University to keep a tight hold on their faith. Please check this out for yourself and then pass it on to your loved ones:
