TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (YEAR C) 13th October, 2019 We support the endeavours of the Royal Commission to bring healing to the victims of abuse. Church's website: www.facingthetruth.org.au Reflection: We should never take kindness for granted, and its important that we show gratitude when others do us a kindness. While its easy to focus on the lack of gratitude of the nine lepers in todays Gospel story, theres another aspect which is easy to overlook, but does cast them in a more favourable light. The healing of the lepers is unusual in that Jesus doesnt heal them with a touch or a word, or even a gesture. In fact, He gave no indication at all that they will be healed. He simply tells them to go show themselves to the priests. The healing occurs as they make their way to the temple. It must have taken great faith for them to go their way without a sign from Jesus, a faith which was amply rewarded through their healing. No doubt they felt great gratitude, but perhaps were so overcome by the prospect of being able to return to society that they could not wait to prove they had been cleansed. The Samaritan, not expecting such kindness from a Jew, would have had a different perspective from the others and felt compelled to return to Jesus. Jesus commends him on his faith, however, it was not by returning that he showed his faith, but by going on his way. Mario Mirabile—P.L.T. What happens next? Moving into the second stage of preparation for the Plenary Council, we continue to seek the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. In coming months, the discernment process which involves establishing Discernment Groups for each National Theme for Discernment will begin. Trinity Parish is inviting parishioners to participate in communal Listening and Discernment encounters that will commence in October 2019.– sign up sheets last weekend. Please make yourself familiar with the Plenary Council report from website: http://plenarycouncil.catholic.org.au/resources/reports see Page 4. A very sincere thank you for the delicious morning tea and wonderful send off last Sunday. I felt very honoured to be surrounded by parishioners from the three Churches of Holy Trinity on the occasion of my retirement. Thank you for your presence and your kind sentiments. God bless. Marg Pinzone THANK YOU A very sincere thank you to everyone for our Parish Farewell for Marg Pinzone last weekend. It was a wonderful Community Celebration, and honoured Marg and her service with us. It is also encouraging to see there are St. Catherines parishioners already volunteering to take on various roles. This is the heart of a Spirit-filled Parish, when members offer their time and talents to help serve and build up Community. Thank you once again Sheelagh and Parishioners, and God Bless you all. Reflection: We should never take kindness for granted, and it’s important that we show

gratitude when others do us a kindness. While it’s easy to focus on the lack of gratitude of the nine lepers in today’s Gospel story, there’s another aspect which is easy to overlook, but does cast

them in a more favourable light.

The healing of the lepers is unusual in that Jesus doesn’t heal them with a touch or a word, or

even a gesture. In fact, He gave no indication at all that they will be healed. He simply tells them to go show themselves to the priests. The healing occurs as they make their way to the temple. It must have taken great faith for them to go their way without a sign from Jesus, a faith which was

amply rewarded through their healing. No doubt they felt great gratitude, but perhaps were so overcome by the prospect of being able to return to society that they could not wait to prove

they had been cleansed. The Samaritan, not expecting such kindness from a Jew, would have had a different perspective from the others and felt compelled to return to Jesus. Jesus commends him on his faith, however, it was not by returning that he showed his faith, but by going on

his way. Mario Mirabile—P.L.T.

In this 2nd

phase we are continuing to listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying as we move from listening and dialogue, into listening and discernment. This is a process of Communal discernment, rather than individual discernment. THIS WEEK’S GOSPEL – Luke 17: 11-19

First Anniversary occurring at this time:

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus travelled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered one of the villages, ten lepers came to meet him. They stood some way off and called to him, ‘Jesus! Master! Take pity on us.’ When he saw them he said, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ Now as they were going away they were cleansed. Finding himself cured, one of them turned back praising God at the top of his voice and threw himself at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. The man was a Samaritan. This made Jesus say, ‘Were not all ten made clean? The other nine, where are they? It seems that no one has come back to give praise to God, except this foreigner.’ And he said to the man, ‘Stand up and go on your way. Your faith has saved you.’
