Transcript of Trinity Tidings PO BOX 373 U. S. POSTAGE Trinity United...
A friend of mine sent this email to me and I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to share it
with you. I apologize ahead of time if you have already heard this story. Years ago, a farmer owned land along the Atlantic seacoast. He constantly advertised for
hired hands. Most people were reluctant to work on farms along the Atlantic because they dreaded the awful storms that raged across the Atlantic, wreaking havoc on the buildings and crops.
As the farmer interviewed applicants for the job, he received a steady stream of refusals. Finally, a short, thin man, well past middle age, approached the farmer. "Are you a good farm hand?" the farmer asked him. "Well, I can sleep when the wind blows," answered the little man.
Although puzzled by this answer, the farmer, desperate for help, hired him. The little man worked well around the farm, busy from dawn to dusk, and the farmer felt satisfied with the man's work. Then one night the wind howled loudly in from offshore. Jumping out of bed, the farmer grabbed a lantern and rushed next door to the hired hand's sleeping quarters. He shook the little man and yelled, "Get up! A storm is coming! Tie things down before they blow away!"
The little man rolled over in bed and said firmly, "No sir! I told you, I can sleep when the wind blows." Enraged by the response, the farmer was tempted to fire him on the spot. Instead, he hurried outside to prepare for the storm. To his amazement, he discovered that all of the haystacks had been covered with tarps. The cows were in the barn, the chickens were in the coops, and the doors were barred. The shutters were tightly secured. Everything was tied down. Nothing could blow away. The farmer then understood what his hired hand meant, so he returned to his bed to also sleep while the wind blew.
When you're prepared, spiritually, mentally, and physically, you have nothing to fear. Can you sleep when the wind blows through your life? The hired hand in the story was able to sleep because he had secured the farm against the storm in advance. We secure ourselves against the storms of life by grounding ourselves in the Word of God. We don't need to understand, we just need to hold His hand to have peace in the middle of storms.
I hope you enjoy your day and you sleep well when the wind blows. Rev. Michael

COUNTING PENNIES
Remember when you were little and how much fun it was to count your pennies? On Loose Change Sundays you can have that same thrill again by helping count the pennies, nickels, dimes, plus more for an hour or two the third Monday of the month. Volunteer to have that same thrill again. Call Tera Ann Galloway (843-281-1059) or Marie Peacock (843-361-0038) to help out.
Will meet on Tuesday, July 21st at 6:00 p.m. in the church library. Mark your calendars accordingly.
Will meet on Tuesday, July 28th at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Please turn in your agendas to Alan Faulkenberry ahead of time if you want your concerns brought forth. Mark your calendars now! All committee members should plan to attend and all others are welcome!
RESPONSE TO HEALTH EMERGENCIES AT OUR CHURCH Wherever large numbers of people gather, it is an unfortunate fact that health emergencies will occur. This is especially true when the population is older. The first response in any health emergency is to recognize what is happening. The second response is to call 911. The third response is to obtain equipment to help the person. Finally, 1-3 people stay with the person to provide immediate CPR/First Aid. Most times it is not readily apparent what is happening when someone passes out unconscious. It may be a simple case of dehydration or low blood sugar or it may be a moe serious event like a stroke or a heart attack. Regardless the following should be followed to err on the side of caution. ●If the situation occurs during church services, we have designated our ushers as key responders. ●If the incident occurs during social/fellowship activities, these same steps should be followed . USHER # 1: CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY; DO NOT HESITATE OR POSTONE WAITING FOR INFORMATION OR DIRECTION! False calls are better than no call if someone’s life is at stake! USHER #2 : QUICKLY OBTAIN AED MACHINE FROM CABINET IN BACK HALL (behind the Sanctuary beside the stairs) AND TAKE TO SCENE USHER # 3: CROWD CONTROL—direct people away from the area to keep noise levels & distractions down so responders can concentrate!
PLEASE ATTEND A CPR/AED CLASS & HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE AND CONFIDENCE TO SAVE A LIFE!
Back to School SHOE Drive
Can you believe it is time for the annual North Strand Helping Hand Back to School Shoe drive! It seems like school just got out! We will
be taking donations to help children, in need, purchase new shoes for school. We are collecting funds the month of July, so we can have
the gift cards to Helping Hands by August 1st. I am sure you remember the feeling of a new pair of shoes the first day of school. Let’s
help to pass that feeling along to those children that are less fortunate. Thank you so much for your generous donations.

Missions Corner News: By Frank Autry North Strand Helping Hand (NSHH) – We are continuing to list one item a month that we will ask you to buy when you go to the store and drop off at the church for NSHH. During July we are asking that you bring in Peanut Butter and Jelly. The 16 to 18 oz. jars are the best size. Some we will use for ASAP and the rest will be deliv-ered to NSHH.
Mobile Meals - We need your help. Mobile Meals of the North Strand, a very important ministry delivering hot meals to shut-ins five days a week, is in urgent need of drivers. Mobile Meals will train each driver for the daily route. Drivers rotate and usually drive two to three times a month on given days. If you have any interest in helping Mobile Meals as a driver, or even as a substitute driver, please contact the coordinator for Trinity Methodist Church: Marie Cary at 843-399-2968.
If you have a vegetable garden and have excess vegetables, bring them to church. During July and August we will have a table out-side the front of the church each Sunday. If you have extra please bring and put on the table. If you see something you like on the table please take it home and enjoy.
Do you have an electric stove that is not being used? We are aware of a lady who needs one. Her current stove has one work-ing burner. If you have one and would be willing to donate it to this lady please contact Gerry Ferguson.
Thank you for all that YOU do to support the mission projects of our Church.

doing or would like to help, please see Frank Autry (843-685-

SCHEDULE FOR JULY 2015
8:30 AM 11AM
Summer is here. Actually, summer just officially started, but the temperatures make you think it has been here for sometime now. This is the time of year that some think of as downtime. Many people take vacations, or just take time off. For others, this is not a down-time. This is the busy season for some. For the church, things are continuous. The choir, for example, sings every Sunday. We do have a change in practice time and occasionally, you will notice different ones gone for a Sunday or two. The music is a very important part of our church service, from the prel-ude through to the postlude. We hear some music, sing all together on some, and listen to special pieces by the choir, a soloist, or small group. We try very hard to have music that fits each particular service, or at least the season of the church. Sometimes it is difficult to fit everything into a day. For instance, the 4th Sunday in May was a combination of special days. It was Memorial Day weekend, which would lend itself to patriotic music. It was Con-firmation Sunday, and we welcomed our new members proudly. There is special music for such a time. Most importantly for the church, it was Pentecost- the birth of the church. There is definitely music for Pentecost. The choir actually sang two anthems that Sunday. One was for Pentecost, and the other was to honor the men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. ( I couldn't put one in for the confirmands, though the anthem the next Sunday could have been for them as well.) There are other Sundays of the year that this same thing happens. We just have to work it out to see which songs fit best. I do the same thing for the hymns. I hope the music is meaningful to you. It is won-derful when everything falls into place. Each time that happens, I am fully aware that God has had his hand in everything we do. It gives me great joy to know that He brings us to-gether in such a special way. On a personal note, please watch the bulletin over the next few Sundays for a special invitation to my birthday party. Everyone is invited, but I need to know who is coming. There will be a flyer in the bulletin to turn in, so I will be able to plan for the sup-per. I ask that there be no gifts, but if you want to honor me in some way, a donation to the music fund would be appreciated. I hope that music always remains an important part of your life. It can make you happy, make you dance, bring back memories, or just soothe the soul. There is a play that has a line---"Music has charms to soothe the savage breast, to soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak." The point is that music has a powerful effect on us. In the Bible, even David knew that music was a gift from God. It has the potential to restore, inspire, and enliven. David made sure that music was a part of worship in the Temple. And so, we carry on a long tradition. Melody Evans, Choir Director

ONE MILLION HOURS OF SERVICE
Initiative is sponsored by the Children in Poverty Task Force of the SC United Meth-
odist Conference and continues from the One Million Book Initiative of last summer.
United Methodists in ministry with or for children—whether tutoring, on a school
board, serving as a reading partner and more—are being asked to log their hours on
a new website launched by the conference and overseen by the Children in Poverty
Task Force. The hours can be past, present and future (from Annual Conference last
June 2014 through now and beyond).
The 1 Million Hours of Service initiative takes last year’s Million Book Effort service
project
a step further. While the Million Book Effort focused on collecting and then donat-
ing books to children in need, the 1 Million Hours of Service initiative focuses on
working with the children themselves, whether directly or indirectly.
After all, through the New Testament, Jesus invites people to make caring for people
a priority, and Methodists historically have a tradition of caring for the vulnerable,
including the poor, widows and orphans. A compliment to a child who is lonely, a
smile to a child who is afraid, telling a child you love him is like touching the hand of
God. Volunteering time, energy, love and joy is worth everything!
“My favorite picture of Jesus is where he is surrounded by children—children who
are the greatest gift from God,” Thompson said. “To be in ministry with children is
to be in ministry with God. To log your hours, go to www.onemillionhours@umcsc

United Methodist Men July
No meeting was held in May due to the outdoor Sunday service. Our June meeting was held on the 21st (Father's Day)
No business was conducted but we gathered for fellowship.
This spring the Methodist Men were fortunate enough to fund scholarships for 9 students to go to Asbury Hills summer
camp. Asbury Hills serves the South Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Its mission is to serve all peo-
ple for Christian birth, growth, and renewal.
Our group was also involved with providing dinner to the 150 Salkehatchie visitors. Many thanks to Don and Jean
Frye, Michael Ritter and Terry Fletcher for their efforts.
A project that the TUMM are working on at the present time involves renovation of the Playground. Cypress chips
were purchased and spread where the dirt was.
We are asking anyone that may have suitable playground equipment and wish to donate to please do so. Or if anyone
may have a contact for playground equipment to let us know.
Our next meeting will not be until September 20th due to the summer and vacations.
On August 9th (2nd Sunday) the TUMM will be conducting the services. If you are not already participating; please
come out and do so with the men in your church.

Guess who’s turning the big 60 this month? Yeah, that’s right, our own Melody Evans, that’s who! Woo-Hoo! And we are all asked to join her in the celebration here at Trin-ity on Saturday, July 25th at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Further information will be in upcoming bulletins, so be looking. She asks that there be no gifts, but if you want to honor her in some way, a donation to the music fund would be appreciated!

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and thus fulfill the Law of Christ!” Galatians 6:2
In deed you all have obeyed the “Royal Law of Christ”. Your work cleaning and trimming; also
mowing at my home. Your work was super! My latitude of gratitude soars above cloud nine (9)! Your
caring for the elderly truly expresses your devout love of Christ our Savior.
Please accept my humble thanks!
Yours in Christ,
