Well the summer has flown by. It seems like yesterday that school ended for the kids and we had

the whole summer to look forward to. Where does the time go? I wanted so much to spend more time with the kids this summer but it just has not happened the way I wanted. I remember my parents and grandparents telling me as a child to “cherish every moment” because “time flies by” and “the days seem to be getting shorter”. I use to think that they were crazy for saying such things but now I understand. There just does not seem to be enough hours in the day to accomplish everything I would like to do. Question is; are we accomplishing the tasks that are important or are we finding our lives filled with good intentions?

If you are like me, you probably see areas where you never followed through to reach a goal. The seldom-used exercise equipment and tapes needs dusting. A piano sits wanting to be played. There are books that remain to be read.

More importantly, there are children and love ones who wait for our attention. This summer I had all good intentions to spend some quality time with Dow and Emma. But again, those were good inten-tions. Oh we had our moments, but unfortunately those were too few and far apart. Every child has gifts and abilities waiting to be developed – but this takes time and guidance and supervision.

It’s like riding a bike without training wheels. A few years ago, Dow was ready to accomplish such a feat. One afternoon he looked at Laurie and myself and said he wanted to do ride his bike without the training wheels. Sure enough he was riding by himself in no time at all, with a few scrapes and bruises. However, Laurie and I were there each step of the way; taking the time, giving him the guidance and su-pervision that he needed.

To tap into potential takes intentional, concerted effort. It doesn’t just happen. Time for meaning-ful interaction and activity doesn’t always “appear” to us as we juggle a full day of appointments and oth-er commitments.

The time God gives to us is ours to spend – we determine how we are going to use it. We can fill it with life-building activities, or we can let it sift through our fingers hour by hour, day by day, week by week, until before we know it, an entire year is gone and we have accomplished very little.

Accept the challenge to make every moment count! Set priorities according to the goals you have set for you life. It won’t be long before your life will begin to be more productive and more fulfilling for yourself and those around you.

FALL BIBLE STUDY

The Life and Ministry of John The Beth Moore Bible Study, Beloved Disciple will be offered On Tuesday afternoon from 2 to 4 and Friday mornings from 9 to 11. The first week’s sessions will start on Tuesday, September 9th, and Friday September 12th. As in the past, participants may attend the session that best fits their schedule. They are interchangeable. Mission News: Mahala Pearsall

Our Back to School Shoe Drive is in full swing! Remember we are taking donations to provide the children served at North Strand Helping Hand with gift cards, so they can buy their own shoes. This helps the kids pick what they want in the right size. Please have all donations into the church office by August 5th. Thank you in advance for touching the life of a child in need. Feed the Hungry Event October 24th we will gather at the Convention Center in Myrtle Beach, with other churches and organizations, to have a mass packing of one pouch meals. We had a group do this at annual conference last year. It was an amazing experience. We are taking donations and asking for vol-unteers to represent Trinity at this event…..think about it! We would love to have you on Team Trinity! North Strand Helping Hands This month we are still emphasizing canned meats. These can be chicken, tuna, ham or beef. Please bring and place them in the GREY BENDS at the exits to the sanctuary or in the mission’s corner. As always we will take other do-nations too. Please remember we are still collecting pea-nut butter and jelly for the ASAP program. Master's Meal We had special entertainment in July by a youth choir do-ing community service while at the beach. What a great way to way to make those served feel special. This is a self sustaining ministry so donations are very welcome. Call Gerry Ferguson at 249-2040 for opportunities to help. Street Reach We will serve SUNDAY, August 3rd. We need volunteers! Last month Dixon Pearsall, Linda Eichenbaum and I cooked and served and had a wonderful time. Please call Mahala at 399-1170. We prepare the food and serve but we do not do dishes! There is a kitchen team that cleans up after us!

We are in the middle of summer and things are going along smoothly. I am so grateful

for everyone who works so hard to make our music program wonderful. The handbells

(a smaller group) played once already and will play again in August. If all goes as planned,

that will be August 24th. The orchestra will start to practice soon, and will play in

September. Of course, the choir will sing each Sunday. We are practicing just on Sunday

mornings through August. Wednesday night practice will start back on September 10th.

The men will be doing the worship service on August 10th. The plan is for just the men of

the choir to sing that Sunday. The ladies can sit in the congregation and get a different

prospective. Thanks again to all who assist in anyway with our worship services. You all

make a difference.

History of Hymns:

In the 17th century, hymns did not exist as an expression of worship for everyone. Mostly

they were performed by professional musicians. One of the earliest moves to congrega-

tional singing was in 1673, a minister persuaded his congregation to sing at the end of

communion. He was remembering the Gospel account of the last supper: “and when they

had sung a hymn, they went out into the Mount of Olives.” In 1697, he published a collec-

tion of 37 hymns. Today the word hymn is used for “psalm” and “spiritual” or “sacred”

song. The writer who began the new era of Christian hymns was Isaac Watts- known as

the “Father of Christian Hymnody”. His hymns are still sung today. Most famous of those

would probably be “Joy to the World” and “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”.

He wrote hymns of experience and composed music that was easy to sing. More writers

followed into the 18th century. One of the most prominent was Charles Wesley.

Following is an excerpt from a letter sent to the congregation dur-

ing our last Stewardship Campaign and we would like you to "hear" these words again.

"It only takes one to open up the Bible to learn about "life." John's

gospel opens with words about Jesus as memorable as they are revolutionary: "In Him was life, and the life was the light to all peo-

ple." While we may at first hear in these words of life something to

secure, we quickly come to see instead that it is something gener-

ously given. Life at its most deep and full and lasting seems out of

our reach. It is not a commodity we can transact but a reality we have received in Christ and into which we are invited to partici-

pate. That is our goal at Trinity - to share the life that we have

come to know and love.

When Paul in his second letter to the Corinthians commends and

encourages the believers to be generous with their financial re-

sources, he reminds them that they have received "the grace of

our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sake

he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich"

As followers of Christ, this is where we live. Our giving does not

repay a debt, exact a duty, or even respond to a need, but flows

forth from our knowledge and experience of the gratuitous love of

Christ. In this way, we are moved from thinking about the per-

ceived scarcity of our means to the abundance of God's blessing.

It seems that among the churches of Macedonia such confidence

took hold, "for they gave according to their means...and beyond

their means, of their own accord, begging earnestly for the favor

of taking part" in what God was doing to bring relief and compas-sion, healing and salvation, grace, and truth, life and light to

all people.

Please welcome Edward (Dick) and Emily Tinsley to our church family. Dick is a native of Florence, SC and Emily comes from Raleigh, NC. They have six adult chil-dren and five grandchildren. Dick is the Administrator at Seacoast/McLeod and they have lived in North Myrtle Beach two years. In his free time, Dick likes to golf. Emily likes to bake and sew. Both love to travel and read. We’re happy you’re with us, Emily & Dick! A warm welcome to Jack Callaghan. Born in Allentown, Pa, he has been in the south since 1982. He has two children (a son and daughter) and four grandchildren. They reside in Southport and Charlotte, NC. Jack is mar-ried to Lorraine Callaghan who has been a member of Trinity for quite some time. Jack is active in United Methodist Men and loves to golf. We’re glad you’re here Jack!

Beginning September 7th, Trinity UMC will offer Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, a biblically based curriculum that teaches people how to handle money God’s way. The class will meet in the li-brary each Sunday evening at 6:00 pm from September 7th-November 30th.

United Methodist Women & UMCOR Partner for Maternal & Child Health as announced during Assembly 2014 in Louisville, Kentucky

United Methodist Women and the United Methodist Committee on Relief will collabo-rate to save the lives of women and children around the world.

This United Methodist Women/UMCOR partnership will improve women’s and chil-dren's health through five programmatic el-ements: 1) safe births 2) safe motherhood nutrition 3) WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs) 4) programs that address sexual and gender-based violence.

Maternal and Child Health

Health care for women and children is at the heart of United Methodist Women today, and has been since the organization was founded in the 1800’s. In 1869, Dr. Clara Swain was sent to Bareilly, India, to provide quality medical care to women. She has been called the "pioneer woman physician in India,” as well as the "first fully accredited woman physician ever sent out by any missionary society into any part of the non-Christian world." Our foremothers made the choice to act to save wom-en’s lives. They chose to build hospitals and clinics, to train women and girls to serve as doctors and nurses, and to send missionaries to initiate work. Today, United Methodist Women continues to support the health and family needs of women and children around the globe. Women are still dying in childbirth, children continue to die from preventable diseases, and many communities have no access to healthcare. From Latin America to Africa to Asia, United Methodist Women works with women worldwide to address:

Access to healthcare Educational opportunities in medical fields Child protection Crisis ministries for women who are victims of vio-

lence at home or during periods of war and conflicts Reproductive health – family plan-ning, cancer screening, healthy childbirth

Advocacy for equity in law and services for women and children

Informal educational workshops on healthy living for teens at risk, lactating mothers who are HIV-positive, mothers who need new ideas on nu-trition, and basic health, hygiene and disease prevention

Trauma and mental health counseling Parenting support Shelter and legal services Health care

The pastor and we as the congregation are always in prayer for others. Now we have the opportunity to pray for other members of our congregation every week. There are no words to fit the occasion. Sometimes something so special happens we find it hard to come up with words that fit the occasion . I found myself at that point in July. One of our angels at Trinity did something so wonderful for me and my family that it's hard to express how grateful we are. As most of you know my mother passed away 2 years ago this month. The love and support from my Trinity family truly helped us to deal with her going home to God. And now Joyce Davis has taken this show of love to a new level by planting a rose bush and placing a plaque dedicating this bush to my mom. For this and everything that my church family has done over the years we are eternally grateful. With all my heart Thank You Joyce. Rev. Ed and the Daniel family.

GETTING A HEAD START ON

NEW FALL BIBLE STUDIES

It’s hard to believe but we’re already into August! Just around the corner is Fall and with that comes the Pumpkin Patch in October. Our first year presented some challenges and we’ve learned from the experience. This

year we’ll be expanding on what we’ve learned and introducing some new and exciting ac-tivities. All centered around the Pumpkin Patch. Since this is a month-long activity we’ll need many volunteers and we hope you’ll be a part of this fun project We’ll be asking for help and we hope you’ll say “yes” when contacted.

For those that worked the Patch last year, we think you’ll agree that it was a fun time and we hope many more will join in this year.

CitiImpact Ministries will host a meal packing event called Feed the Hunger at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center October

24th-25th. Trinity UMC is planning to partner with this mission by sponsoring a group of 20 people to pack meals which will be used both locally and globally in feeding those who are hungry. Speak to

Mahala Pearsall if you would like to be involved in this ministry!

Communion and the celebration of baptism!

Trinity UMC will host a Terrific Tuesday program this summer for children age 4-entering

6th grade. Each Tuesday morning, we will meet from 9:00 am-12:00 noon. This summer’s

programs will continue through August 12th. Registration forms are available in the church

office. Please plan to bring your children or grandchildren every week or any week!

special Blessing of the Backpacks during our 8:30 and

Margaret Martin (1307 Prince William Rd, NMB) to

enjoy a Back-to-School Pool Party!

P.E.P. (People Enjoying People) Club

The PEP Club will meet on Thursday, August 21st, at noon in the Fel-

lowship Hall. We will share in a covered dish meal, so bring an

entrée, side dish, or dessert to share! We encourage all of our

members to attend, because we’re having a privately-funded safety program called

“The Lighter Side of Senior Fire Safety.” The program contains lots of humor, some

new safety advice, and many important safety updates. According to other groups like

ours, their award-winning speaker will both surprise and entertain you!

Lunch with the Staff On Sunday, August 24th, immediately following the

11:00 worship service, at Boardwalk Billy’s (1407 13th Avenue North). All are invited to come get

to know each other and enjoy a great lunch!

First Wednesday Fellowship Dinner Come join us for a meal in the Fellowship Hall on the

Wednesday, August 6th. Don’t forget to sign-up in the church office.

Coming Soon to Trinity’s Children’s Ministry: Workshop Rotation Sunday School

Beginning in September, children K-4th grade will

begin an exciting new format for Sunday school. The

Workshop Rotation model allows children to study the

same Bible lesson for six weeks, rotating to different

workshops each week to learn the lesson in different ways.

For example, children may experience drama one week, art

the next, and science, music, or games the week after that!

The workshops are hands-on and allow for many more

adults to be involved in the education of our children. It will be fun for all ages, so get

excited about this new chapter in ministry together!

HOW CAN I HELP?

Evangelism is outreach to one and all. It takes all of us to help

others feel welcomed and to know the warmth of a Christian

community and a welcoming church family. Trinity has a vari-

ety of opportunities to get to know each other, and to reach

out and invite others to join in. We are known as a friendly

church, and to maintain our outreach to others, we need to be

sure to be friendly to one and all.

In September the outreach will be taken to the Main Street of

North Myrtle Beach at the Irish-Italian festival. Come and

spend an hour or two between 10 am and 4 pm on Saturday,

September 27th helping to share the good news about Trinity

and our faith. It will only take a smile and answer any ques-

tions others might have. It gives you an opportunity to also

attend the festival. To volunteer, call Emily Sharp, (910)579-

0055 or Marie Peacock (843) 361-0038. Remember, we don’t

know that you are willing to help if you don’t let us know. This

is really a fun activity.

The New Project Committee has been hard at work look-

ing over the information as to your direction for Trinity as ex-pressed at our May Congregational meeting. From the input you have given the committee, we have the following proposed Mission

and Vision statements. The committee is still working hard to con-solidate the information the congregation has given us as to Trinity’s

goals and the next steps to achieve these goals. The end product

will reflex your wishes and direction for the future of Trinity.
